La sceneggiatura è liberamente ispirata alla vita di Armida Miserere una delle prime donne a dirigere un carcere in Italia, una donna che ha iniziato a lavorare a metà degli anni ottanta, subito dopo l’entrata in vigore della legge Gozzini e ha saputo affermarsi in un ambiente ancora militarizzato e maschilista ottenendo stima e rispetto degli agenti come della popolazione carceraria. Ciò che rende particolarmente interessante la sua vicenda umana sono le sue apparenti contraddizioni: si era fatta la reputazione di “dura” (era soprannominata “fimmina bestia” dai detenuti dell’Ucciardone) perché doveva confrontarsi con personalità molto forti, ma la sua vita è stata il continuo tentativo di mantenere vivo il suo lato più umano e femminile. -
