Test Includes: Staining of red cells for aggregates of denatured hemoglobin (Heinz bodies).
Logistics
Test Indications: Evaluate hemolytic anemias with RBC enzyme deficiencies (eg, GG PD deficiency), hemoglobin, congenital Heinz Body hemolytic anemia (CHBHA). Perform when many “bite cells” are seen on routine peripheral blood smears.

Processed Volume: Same as Draw Volume Collection: Routine blood collection. Mix specimen thoroughly by gentle inversion.
Special Processing: Lab Staff: Do Not centrifuge. Specimen should remain in original collection container. Store and ship at refrigerated temperatures. Forward promptly. Specimens are stable 48 hours, refrigerated.
