Forsyth County is one of the fastest-growing areas in the United States, stimulated by its proxim- ity to and appeal as a commuter base for people working there. Fortune 500 companies based in Forsyth County include UPS, Coca Cola and Delta Airlines. Forsyth County has experienced a 71% population boom between 2000 and 2008, helping to increase the area’s median income up to $86,938

Forsyth County Parks and Recreation Department maintains more than 15 parks in the county. North Georgia’s Forsyth County is the 30th Entrepreneur Friendly community in the state and the 17th community this year to be named Entrepreneur Friendly by the Georgia Department of Economic Development (GDEcD)’s Small Business Office. Forsyth County’s estimated population is 227,967 with a growth rate of 3.59% in the past year. Forsyth County is the 8th largest county in Geor- gia. As of 2017, Forsyth County had an estimated population of just fewer than 228,000 residents, up from about 220,000 in 2016 and around 175,000 in 2010.

In the past year, Forsyth County has 30 announcements of companies locating in the area according the Cumming Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce. Residents are attracted by good schools and low taxes, along with employment in healthcare, technology and international firms. The Forsyth County Chamber of Commerce has announced the Business First initiative offering more than $3 million in the bank for economic devel- opment efforts.

Education has taken on a higher priority in Forsyth, as well. Lanier Technical College has seen enrollment rise by 11 percent over last year. And as part of the University System of Georgia’s efforts to consolidate across the state, Gainesville State College merged with North Georgia College & State University last year to form the University of North Georgia.

The northern region of the community recently became the home of the National Guard’s new armory and training facility, a new branch of the Georgia Department of Driver Services and a $13-million aquatic center. Along with retail, the county also procured a 72,000-square-foot flagship store for Academy Sports + Outdoors.

Technology companies are also increasingly coming to Forsyth to find trained workers. Scientific Games recently expanded its operations and installed a new manufacturing technology that networks 20 printing presses together electronically to produce 9 billion instant lottery games annually. Scratch-off lottery games are big business, and the company has garnered a significant portion of this $78-billion industry. With one of the country’s largest fiber lines running along Georgia 400, Forsyth has naturally become home to data centers for major companies such as New York Life Insurance Co., Southeast Toyota Distributors, Publix and UPS. Bright Light Systems also established its U.S. headquarters in the southern region of the community adjacent to the regional headquarters for Siemens and Chemence.
