Robert Hunter (1664-1734) Hunterdon County was named for Robert Hunter through a cor- ruption of Hunterston, his former home in England. A Scot, he became a British military officer and Colonial Governor of both New York and New Jersey from 1710-1720. He completed his ca- reer as Governor of Jamaica, where he died.
