Welcome back to Maesdu Park for tonight’s game against Rhyl, it was a dis- appointing result on Saturday but we must find a way to bounce back against the Lilywhites who have had two wins from the first two Cymru North games.

Positives from Saturday were that Bryan Roberts, Jacob Farleigh and Scott McHarrie all came back from injuries/suspension and made a positive impact in the second half, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see one of them start to- night against Rhyl.

It’s important we stay supportive of this group of lads, it’s a completely new group and was always going to take time to get 100% ready, hopefully we can go a step further to that tonight.

The games keep coming and next weekend it’s our first away trip and it’s the eagerly anticipated match up against Colwyn Bay, who themselves are com- ing back from a disappointing home defeat on the weekend.

Hopefully we can get a big group going over to Llanelian Road for that one too, but all focus is on Rhyl tonight at the moment.

Enjoy the game,

Proud Supporters of Llandudno FC LLANDUDNO FC A BRIEF HISTORY OFFICIAL MATCHDAY PROGRAMME

Football in Llandudno dates back to 1878 when a club, probably known as Gloddaeth Rovers was in existence for around a decade. The club was formed for the purpose of providing activity for cricketers during their close season. SA full international Wales v Ireland was played on the “council field” in 1988.

Llandudno were founder members of the Welsh National League (North) in 1921 and were champions in 1923 and League Cup winners in 1930. The club won the N.W.C.F.A in 1926 and the Amateur Cup in 1929. Controversy struck the club in 1931 when the F.A.W instructed them to play East Wales, which Llandudno refused and were suspended.

Llandudno were also founder members of the Welsh League (North) in 1935 and remained in the league until war broke out in 1939 and then re-joined in 1945 up until 1974. Llandudno were league champions in 1936 and repeated the feat the following season, in addition the club regained the North Wales Amateur Cup in 1948 and 1962, the Alves Cup in 1951 and the Cookson Cup in 1965.

The club moved to its current home at Maesdu Park in 1991 after the “council field” was used for the construction of the ASDA store in the late 1970’s, now the new Parc MBi Maesdu. The current ground was officially opened in 1991 and floodlights were added in 1994. The following season saw the erection of a clubhouse and two small stands which provides covered seating for 130 spectators.

The club has then went under major transitions, with the addition of a new press box, built by local lad Cyril “Ciz” Williams who tragically died while construction was ongoing, and it is surely a testament that such a great number of friends were determined to finish his work and the building stands as a fitting memorial to this wonderful man. In the 2004/05 season the current dressing rooms were built, and the grandstands with disabled access. In the 2014/15 season major developments continued with the addition of a brand new entrance foyer, fitted with an educational suite, and a state of the art 3G pitch alongside the introduction of a thriving community arm, and for the first time in the clubs history Llandudno Football Club earned promotion into the Welsh .

The club then reached an agreement with sportswear giants Adidas to be their official kitwear supplier until at least 2017, along with major kit sponsors from W.R. Davies Renault and the UPVC Outlet. The good news didn’t stop there as more redevelopments took place around the ground with the introduc- tion of a brand new TV gantry and 75 seater stand.

At the end of the 2015/16 season, and in Llandudno’s debut year in the top tier of Welsh football, we gained automatic promotion to the Europa League after a third placed finish. Llandudno had earned themselves a tie against two time European Cup Winners IFK Goteborg in the first qualifying round, on- ly to be outmuscled 7-1 on aggregate, with Danny Hughes the name in history scoring for his hometown club. An experience the club and the town were extremely proud of, and one that will never be forgotten as we look to replicate it year upon year.

All this wouldn’t be possible without the support and the dedication from our tirelessly working volun- teers, and so here you find us as one club, one community. LLFC PLAYER SPONSORSHIPS 2019/20

WE NEED A REACTION Good evening and welcome once again, for this time in a row, to Maesdu Park for this JD Cymru North game against Rhyl. I’d like to kick off this preview by saying that we, as a group, are all hurting after the 4-1 defeat to Gresford on Saturday.

In the first half we dropped well below the standards that have been set, and when you give a team like that a 3-0 head start, its always going to be an uphill battle. The positives from the game, however, was the way the players reacted in the second half. The second half performance showed what this group is capable of, and with a little bit more convic- tion in front of goal the end result may have been very different.

What that first half of football provides us is a steep learning curve and something to re- flect on to ensure that it does not happen again. I don’t mean this as an form of an excuse, but we are still in our infancy in terms of our group and development, so there will be bumps along the road, the most important thing for us as a group now is his we react to these bumps, that will truly define the character within the group.

I would like to take this opportunity to extend a warm welcome to Eddie Maurice-Jones and his side. Rhyl this year once again will be challenging towards the top of the table hav- ing added very well over the summer in terms of their player recruitment and they've had a good start to the season, winning both of their first two games.

We are fully aware of the threats that Rhyl will possess and will work to counter them whilst looking to exposes the weakness we identify. The main thing from our point of view is to ensure we start right and focus on our own game.

I would once again like to thank the hard working people behind the scenes, and mostly importantly the fans for the full support that we feel.

Have an enjoyable evening.

LLANDUDNO VS GRESFORD Matchday 2 JD Cymru North Saturday 24th of August, 2019 Maesdu Park, Llandudno

RESULT: Llandudno 1-4 Gresford A strong first half performance by Gresford proved too much for Llandudno yesterday as they were comfortably beaten 4-1 at home.

After coming from behind to beat Corwen last weekend, Llandudno couldn't repeat that against a Gresford side who were desperate to prove a point after losing 2-0 to .

Manager Matty Jones made one change from the side that beat Corwen last weekend by bringing Aaron Pomeyie in for Aron Jones.

Gresford started the first half as they meant to go on with Joe Culshaw opening the scoring inside the first ten minutes, slotting his shot past Shaun Pearson in the Llandudno net.

Things went from bad to worse on the 20th minute when Jake Eyre doubled the away side's advantage by smashing the ball into the top corner.

The game may have been lost all together when Jack Chaloner made it 3-0 to Gresford on the 35th minute, compounding a miserable first half for the home side at Maesdu Park.

Despite this, Llandudno were undoubtedly much better in the second half and needed to be, the home side were pushing for a goal back early on and the manager brought in Scott McHarrie, Jacob Farleigh and Bryan Roberts but they couldn't find the elusive goal.

A consolation did come on the 72nd minute when Bryan Roberts, who impressed in pre-season but missed out against Corwen due to personal reasons, managed to get one back and open his account for the season.

It was all Llandudno, who were trying to get another one back but were liable to a counter attack, and that's ex- actly what happened when Jordan MacCarter made it 4-1.

There was some bad news for the away side at the end of the game when Jack Chaloner was sent off for a sec- ond yellow card.

Llandudno must bounce back this Tuesday night as they host in-form Rhyl at Maesdu Park, Rhyl saw off Llangefni this weekend and beat Flint on the opening weekend.

Welsh Cup RHYL FC: BRIEF HISTORY

Football in Rhyl dates from the late 1870s and at one time there were several Rhyl clubs in existence. Rhyl F.C. be- came founder members of the Welsh League, formed in 1890, but withdrew the following year. They reformed as Rhyl Athletic in 1893 and became founder members of the North Wales Coast League, winning the title in 1894–95. Rhyl Athletic joined forces with Rhyl Town in 1898 and in an ambitious move switched to the Anglo-Welsh competi- tion known as The Combination.

With North Wales football in turmoil in the early 1930s, Rhyl sought to realise their ambitions elsewhere. Another un- successful application to the Football League was made in 1932 before joining the Birmingham and District League. Seeking relief from the onerous travelling to the Birmingham area, Rhyl successfully applied to join the Cheshire County League in 1936 and began one of the most successful chapters in the club's history.

In a post-war purple patch, Rhyl won the league title twice – in 1947–48 and 1950–51 – and the twice in succession. In 1952, they beat Merthyr Tydfil 4–3 and became the first non-league side in the modern era to retain the trophy, by defeating Chester City 2–1 the following season. Rhyl had been losing finalists to Cardiff City in 1930 and Crewe Alexandra in 1937, but did not feature in the final again until 1993, when they lost 5–0 to Cardiff City.

Between 1948 and 1972 Rhyl appeared regularly in the first round proper of the FA Cup. In 1957 Rhyl reached the fourth round proper, losing 3–0 away to Bristol City. In the Cheshire County League, success eluded them for several years before they won the title in 1972. On the dissolution of the Cheshire County League in 1982, Rhyl became members of the North West Counties League, winning promotion to the Northern Premier League in their first sea- son. In season 2003–04, the club won the Welsh Premier League, qualifying for the Champions League qualification rounds (though they lost 7–1 on aggregate, to Skonto Riga of Latvia in the first qualifying round), and were winners of the League Cup and Welsh Cup, although they lost the final of the FAW Premier Cup 4–1 to Wrexham. Rhyl com- pleted a famous quadruple by rounding off the season with a 6–0 win against Halkyn United in the Final of the North Wales Coast Challenge Cup.

Rhyl could not reproduce their quadruple heroics in 2004–05. The club finished runners-up in the Welsh Premier League to TNS and also fell to the same team in both the Welsh Cup semi-final and Welsh Premier Cup quarter- final. A defeat to Carmarthen Town in the Final of the Welsh League Cup compounded a trophyless season for The Whites, although European qualification was gained by their runner-up finish in the Welsh Premier League CONTACT US

LILYWHITES COME TO MAESDU PARK

Llandudno host Rhyl at Maesdu Park for the third matchday of the JD Cymru North and will look to bounce back from the defeat on the weekend at the hands of Gresford.

Rhyl came up against Llangefni on Saturday and their two goals in the first half was enough to give them three points despite a spirited fight back from the side.

Our second half performance was a much needed reaction from the disappointing first, and the intro- duction of Bryan Roberts, Jacob Farleigh and Scott McHarrie gives manager Matty Jones a selection headache this week.

Alfons Fosu-Mensah could feature after training last Saturday and could give another option up-front for Matty.

Llandudno and Rhyl met last season in the Nathaniel MG Cup Second Round and a thrilling 5-3 game which saw 7 goals in the second half.

Rhyl finished fifth last season in the Cymru Alliance and will no doubt be hoping to finish even higher this season.

Captain Danny Hughes has received both Man of the Match awards this season, and will looking to lead the lads on Tuesday night as they hope for a reaction.

LLANDUDNO FC MANAGER QUOTES OFFICIAL MATCHDAY PROGRAMME

QUOTES FROM THE MANAGER AHEAD OF THE GAME

Reaction to the Gresford defeat

“My initial reaction was one of anger and frustration, it goes without saying that you cannot give away a three goal lead and expect to win a game. We fell well below our standards in the first half and that is not acceptable. However, on reflection and having watched the game back, our second half performance was very positive and the lads re- acted well. Their reaction was like ours, that this is a learning curve and is not to happen again.”

The impact of the subs in the second half.

“Being able to bring quality onto the pitch from the bench is brilliant for me as a manag- er, we’ve got a good depth of squad and the lads that came on Saturday showed that they want to be in this side.”

On Rhyl

“All these games are tough, Saturday was the best example of that. Rhyl are a huge club, Eddie is in his second year now and has recruited well over the Summer, but we are a wounded animal at the moment, ready to fight back, and our lads are desperate to get on the pitch and put right what happened Saturday.”

On injuries and squad update

“The only change from the squad on Saturday is that Fons is now available again, so apart from Gerwyn Jones, we are at full strength.”

LLANDUDNO FC CHAIRMAN’S COLUMN OFFICIAL MATCHDAY PROGRAMME OUR TOWN, OUR TEAM

We look forward to welcoming our neighbours from Rhyl, to Maesdu Park, to- night. Our season has already become a rollercoaster ride. After a great season open- er against Corwen, we started badly against Gresford, and paid the price. In the second half, we saw some of the potential we are looking to unleash this sea- son…

More of the same tonight, hopefully... We are hoping to get a couple of players back into the team, tonight, who have been carrying injuries. The game tonight, will be another test. This new group of players are getting to know each other, and becoming a stronger unit.

I'd like to say another big "thank you" to all our sponsors and advertisers, for their support, and to the volunteers, who help us to run our football club. "Our town...our team"

Shaun Pearson is one of two players in this year’s squad who remain from last year, and the Llandudno number one is very experienced in this division and could prove to be vital for us in getting as high up the league as possible. With Matty Jones having to assemble a completely new squad, Shaun says it was important for the lads to gel quickly, and believes that’s exactly what they’ve done. “Obviously when we knew there was going to be another transition period within the squad due to last season, I think it’s important for us now to build as a club and slowly but surely get the club back where it belongs.” “I think it helped us going back to pre-season early and also the Chairman kindly hosted us for a week- end of team building which helped massively. The new lads and management have been great. It’s nowo time for us to put the hard work in.” said Peo. I In terms of this season, Shaun has reiterated the need to rebuild this season and hopes the hard work will mean positive results. “I think this season it’s important like I’ve mentioned earlier to build. From bottom to top not only on the pitch but as a club. Of course, we’re going into each game wanting to win and nothing less. I think after last year we just need to keep our feet firmly on the ground and take each game at a time.” “This is a very difficult league this year with some very good teams. Hopefully with the hard work and togetherness, the results will follow.”

Saturday was disappointing for the whole squad and our number one says it’s proof that the leagu can be very harsh if we’re not at our best. “Of course, I think Saturday against Gresford it was a game of two halves and it’s very important we create and take our chances. At the same time starting games well and being difficult to break down.” “This league is very unforgiving and people will punish you if caught sleeping. Saturday was disappoint- ing but luckily for us we now have a home fixture against Rhyl, what a great game that is to try and put things right against arguably one of the favourites to be top at the end of the season.” Said Shaun.

Last season was disappointing for all involved but thinks the gulf in quality between the two divisions is as small as its ever been with the JD Cymru North being at its strongest state. “Of course dropping down a league is never nice for any club, there was a lot of disappointment last year and it’s very important we make this year a positive one. The is forever getting stronger with more teams attempting to go full time, attracting some very good players, however like I’ve mentioned already, I think the Cymru North is the strongest it's ever been. Personally getting back on grass pitches and going to some old school grounds is something that I’m looking forward to and hopefully start enjoying my football once again.

So here we are again, another home game against a close rival in what should be a brilliant derby. We are all obviously very disappointed in the poor showing on the weekend where we were embarrassed really and just weren't good enough in the first half.

There are positives to take from the second half for sure and we looked dangerous at times just without having the chances to show for it. We are all eager to see the reaction from the players and see how hard they are willing to dig in together and turn in a performance worthy of the 3 points

We expect the gate to be a big one tonight and hopefully we have the weather for it and it brings more people out as Rhyl will no doubt bring their usual faces and bump the crowd up!

Onto Saturday and the game everyone is looking forward to against Colwyn Bay. A group of us are all leaving Llandudno on the train at 1144 and heading into Colwyn Bay for a few drinks before going up to the ground for the match, everybody is welcome on the first away day in the league, the more the merrier and let's show the league what they missed when we left for the Welsh Premier League
