This was Druids 3rd match at home in eight days and also the 3rd defeat in a row but again the fixture clashed with a home match at the Racecourse for Wrexham which seriously affects the gate when we are at home. DRUIDS 1 Conwy borough 2 Druids started brightly and when top scorer Mike Pritchard beat the offside trap to chip the visiting keeper after only 12 minutes to put Druids one up there was no hint of what was to follow. In spite of having the bulk of the play in the first half hour Druids could not muster one shot on target and from then on things started to deteriorate. The Rock started to crumble, passes went astray, Druids were giving the ball away cheaply and confidence visibly waned. When Conwy’s Jack Rowlands turned up unmarked at the far post from a corner to tap home the equaliser on 57 minutes there was only ever going to be one winner. In added time Conwy pinched the winner when Druids yet again gave the ball away and Roberts took full advantage firing home in the bottom left hand corner. Caernarfon Town away next week now looks like a massive task to avoid it becoming 4 defeats in a row, unheard of by Druids in this league. Two of the previous season's outstanding teams, Rhyl and Wrexham Reserves, led the way during the early part of the 1993/94 campaign, but newcomers Llandudno, Mostyn and 1992/93 runners- up Welshpool were hot on their heels. With Welshpool's cup exploits, on four different fronts, tak- ing priority over league fixtures, the Lilywhites had plenty of games to play in the latter stages of the season in their bid to overhaul long-term leaders Rhyl. The Maesydre club's schedule ultimately proved costly as the title, and promotion to the League of Wales, headed to Belle Vue by a margin of 6 points. Although Welshpool missed out on the championship, for a second consecutive season, they made up for the disappointment with a hat-trick of cup victories. The Lilywhites beat Rhyl, the holders, in the League Cup final at the Racecourse, overwhelmed Mid Wales League champions Machynlleth 5-0 in the CWFA Challenge Cup final, and lifted the inaugural Central Wales Senior Cup by overcoming arch rivals Llansantffriad. Rhyl once again carried the league banner furthest in the Welsh Cup, going down to Swansea City 2-0 in the Fourth Round. Whilst in the newly-entitled FAW Trophy, formerly the Intermediate Cup, Mostyn, Rhyl and Welshpool all departed at the quarter-final stage. With no clubs relegated from the League of Wales at the conclusion of the 1993/94 campaign, and Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) champions Penycae and Llandrindod Wells (Mid Wales League runners up) pro- moted to the Cymru Alliance, it meant only Gresford Athletic had to be relegated. The Clappers Lane outfit were to be the first ever club to be demoted from the Cymru Alliance, but they would return in the following century, following a stint back in the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) Contact Us Postal Address:- Cefn Druids FC, The Rock Stadium, Rock Road, Rhosymedre, Wrexham.
