WE NEED THREE POINTS

Welcome back to Maesdu Park where this afternoon we face Porthmadog, who themselves have struggled so far in the JD Cymru North.

I was at the game at Buckley Town on Tuesday and I still don’t know how we didn’t get anything from the game. A lack of concentration at the back after our equaliser cost us in the end and it leaves us with work to do over the next couple of weeks to try and catch up with the leading pack in the league.

Porthmadog, although haven’t had the best starts to the season, will be a tough task once again, they picked up their first point on Tuesday against Llangefni and will no doubt be looking to go one better against us, but we must go out there and want it more.

A trip to Bangor City follows next weekend, hopefully we can get another group of supporters going like against Colwyn Bay, and hopefully with three points from today’s game too.

Enjoy the game and keep supporting the lads throughout.

Proud Supporters of Llandudno FC LLANDUDNO FC A BRIEF HISTORY OFFICIAL MATCHDAY PROGRAMME

Football in Llandudno dates back to 1878 when a club, probably known as Gloddaeth Rovers was in existence for around a decade. The club was formed for the purpose of providing activity for cricketers during their close season. SA full international Wales v Ireland was played on the “council field” in 1988.

Llandudno were founder members of the Welsh National League (North) in 1921 and were champions in 1923 and League Cup winners in 1930. The club won the N.W.C.F.A in 1926 and the Amateur Cup in 1929. Controversy struck the club in 1931 when the F.A.W instructed them to play East Wales, which Llandudno refused and were suspended.

Llandudno were also founder members of the Welsh League (North) in 1935 and remained in the league until war broke out in 1939 and then re-joined in 1945 up until 1974. Llandudno were league champions in 1936 and repeated the feat the following season, in addition the club regained the North Wales Amateur Cup in 1948 and 1962, the Alves Cup in 1951 and the Cookson Cup in 1965.

The club moved to its current home at Maesdu Park in 1991 after the “council field” was used for the construction of the ASDA store in the late 1970’s, now the new Parc MBi Maesdu. The current ground was officially opened in 1991 and floodlights were added in 1994. The following season saw the erection of a clubhouse and two small stands which provides covered seating for 130 spectators.

The club has then went under major transitions, with the addition of a new press box, built by local lad Cyril “Ciz” Williams who tragically died while construction was ongoing, and it is surely a testament that such a great number of friends were determined to finish his work and the building stands as a fitting memorial to this wonderful man. In the 2004/05 season the current dressing rooms were built, and the grandstands with disabled access. In the 2014/15 season major developments continued with the addition of a brand new entrance foyer, fitted with an educational suite, and a state of the art 3G pitch alongside the introduction of a thriving community arm, and for the first time in the clubs history Llandudno Football Club earned promotion into the Welsh Premier League.

The club then reached an agreement with sportswear giants Adidas to be their official kitwear supplier until at least 2017, along with major kit sponsors from W.R. Davies Renault and the UPVC Outlet. The good news didn’t stop there as more redevelopments took place around the ground with the introduc- tion of a brand new TV gantry and 75 seater stand.

At the end of the 2015/16 season, and in Llandudno’s debut year in the top tier of Welsh football, we gained automatic promotion to the Europa League after a third placed finish. Llandudno had earned themselves a tie against two time European Cup Winners IFK Goteborg in the first qualifying round, on- ly to be outmuscled 7-1 on aggregate, with Danny Hughes the name in history scoring for his hometown club. An experience the club and the town were extremely proud of, and one that will never be forgotten as we look to replicate it year upon year.

All this wouldn’t be possible without the support and the dedication from our tirelessly working volun- teers, and so here you find us as one club, one community. LLFC PLAYER SPONSORSHIPS 2019/20

Getting our season back on track

Good afternoon, and welcome to Maesdu Park for our home game against Porthmadog. Today is really about us getting our season back on track. The last three results have been both disappointing and tough to take, however the performances have provided plenty of positives. The aim for us as a group now is to capitalise on the positives and turn good performances into results.

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Porthmadog. Port are also a side who will be looking for a positive result having showed a lot of improvements as the season has developed. We are fully aware of the threats they possess, and are prepared for what they will throw at us. Our focus though is on us and ensuring we do what we have been doing and take the game to Port and showcase the immense talent we have got within our group.

The players and staff are working extremely hard to ensure we end this run we are on with a win and that will once again be the aim this afternoon.

LLANDUDNO VS CONWY BOROUGH Matchday 5 JD Cymru North Saturday 7th of September, 2019 Maesdu Park, Llandudno

RESULT: Llandudno 0-1 Conwy Borough

OWN GOAL GIFTS BOROUGH THE WIN IN DERBY

A missed penalty and an own goal meant Conwy Borough went home with all three points despite Llandudno dominating the majority of the game.

Conwy Borough had the first chance of the match when Corrig McGonigle forced a save from Shaun Pearson early on, but Llandudno applied most of the pressure with Dean Seager being the main threat in front of their goal.

Aaron Pomeyie put in a brilliant cross for Dean Seager to head home but unluckily, it went just wide of the tar- get.

The halt-time whistle blew and Llandudno knew that all three points were there for the taken, and they thought they had their time to go ahead when they were awarded a penalty on the 63rd minute of the game.

Alfons Fosu-Mensah stepped up but it was really well saved by the Conwy goalkeeper to keep the game all square.

Bryan Roberts, Joe Carey and Robbie Parry all came on to try and get a winner, with Parry going the closest of all when his effort went just wide.

But against all the odds, it was Conwy Borough who got the luck when Anthony Marshall, who looked very solid at the back during the game, mis-kicked the ball beyond Shaun Pearson who was left helpless in goal.

BUCKLEY TOWN VS LLANDUDNO Matchday 6 JD Cymru North Tuesday, 10th September 2019 Globe Way, Buckley.

RESULT: Buckley 2-1 Llandudno

Llandudno failed to take anything away from the game at Buckley despite an equaliser from Dean Seager’s pen- alty in the second half.

Despite having the better of the first 25 minutes through chances for Seager and Alfons Fosu-Mensah, it was Buckley who went ahead in the first half through a Callum Humphries header.

The fast paced start to the game was instantly slowed down after Buckley took the lead, with neither side able to create any clear cut chances.

The second half started similar to how the first ended, but the introduction of Robbie Parry on the 57th minute instantly changed that.

Parry’s skilful run on the right hand side of the pitch jinxed his way past defenders, and eventually won his side a penalty.

Dean Seager stepped up confidently and slotted his penalty home to equalise, giving Llandudno the hope to get all three points.

Bur it was the worst possible restart to the game as Buckley went up the other end and a lack of concentration at the back meant Buckley themselves were awarded a penalty.

Aled Bellis was the taker for Buckley and in fairness, he expertly converted his kick from 12 yards.

Llandudno were fighting from the restart to get themselves back in the game, Parry was constantly causing trou- ble on the right with the help of the overlapping Lee Thomas.

Lewis Sirrell had a shot from range but it was straight at the keeper, whilst Seager turned well and got a shot away but it was tipped wide.

Llandudno’s best chance to equalise came after superb play from the team, with Danny Hughes, Lee Thomas, Seager and Parry all involved in the attack, all that was needed was the finish but Robbie Parry’s strike was again well saved.

Aaron Pomeyie replaced Bryan Roberts on the 75th minute and he brought another attacking force to the game, whipping in a few good crosses that no one got on the end of.

Buckley Town held on to keep all three points for themselves and got their first win in three games.

Llandudno face bottom of the table Porthmadog on the weekend, who will be looking for a reaction themselves after they only managed to get a point at home to Llangefni.

LAST SEASON: 3rd in Huws Gray Alliance : 3rd round vs Airbus UK

Porthmadog Football Club, one of the oldest in Wales, was founded in 1884. They were North Wales League champions in 1902/03 and reached the final of the Welsh Amateur Cup in 1905 -06 but had to wait until 1937-38 before they gained another championship The '50s, '60s and '70s were highly successful decades for Port. The Welsh Amateur Cup was won in 1955/56 and 1956/57. The arrival of Mel Charles heralded more success. Port were league champions in three successive seasons between 1966 and 1969. Also in 1966, they played against in the Welsh Cup at the Vetch, before a crowd of 10,941. In the sev- enties, they were twice champions and topped the Welsh Alliance in1989/90. This secured Port a place in the newly formed Cymru Alliance (1990). In 1992, Port became inaugural members of the League of Wales. Thanks to a late surge, the team fin- ished in a creditable 9th place in their first season. This was largely thanks to free scoring striker Dave Taylor. Dave went on, in his second season, to become the league's top scorer as well as Europe’s highest. Ex-Wales International, Ian Edwards became manager but, after a good start, the team slipped down the table and he was also replaced. Things went from bad to worse after Mickey Thomas, ex-Man. U., and Wales, took charge. The team came close to being relegated. For the 1995/96 season Colin Hawkins was promoted to the manager's job. The club nearly folded because of serious financial trouble and a disaster was averted thanks to the hard work of the directors who re-launched the club as a limited company and £10,000 was raised through the sale of shares. In 1996/97, with the financial situation improved, the team had a fine start to the season. No home game was lost until the New Year and, when champions Barry came to the Traeth, it was second against fourth. One of Port's most influential players was Paul Roberts. Before leaving the club to join Wrexham for £10,000, he had played for Wales Under-21 and was the league's leading scorer. After Paul's departure Port slipped to tenth place but still lifted the North Wales Coast Challenge Cup. In the 1997/98 season, Port's time in the League of Wales came to an end following a poor run of form towards the end of the season. Knowing what has happened since in this league, it is a cause for amazement that Porthmadog lost their WPL status despite ending the season in 4th place from the bottom. Back in the Cymru Alliance, things went down hill after a good start. But some pride was restored as they won the League Cup. They could only manage 5th spot in 1999-2000 despite a run of victories after Viv Williams had succeeded Colin Hawkins. Viv, together with assistant-manager Osian Roberts, re-built the team and 2002-03 proved to be one of the most successful in the history of the club. Every home game was won and the only two away defeats came after Port had already gained promotion. They returned to the WPL with a 19 points ad- vantage over their nearest ivals. Port also lifted the League Cup and North Wales Coast Challenge Cup. Under the management of Viv Williams and Osian Roberts, the club took the step back into the WPL and finished season 2003/04 in 12th position. In the following three seasons, they finished in 11th place without any relegation worries. In 2006/07, the club reached the semi- final of the League Cup. By this time, Osian Roberts had become the manager with Viv Williams assisting. For the greater part of the season, the dark cloud of the FAW’s unreasonable punishment, for racist remarks by one individual, cast its shadow over the club. A satisfactory conclusion to this saga was not achieved until the club had taken the matter to an independent sports tribunal and this provided a fair hearing and, at last, justice. With the departure of Osian to a senior coaching position at the FAW and Viv deciding to call it a day after 7 years at the helm the club entered a period of uncertainty and results consequent- ly suffered. During the three seasons 2007/10 the club had four different managers with Clayton Blackmore being dismissed after a few months and Viv Williams returning to take temporary charge helping the club to retain its WPL status. Paul Whelan became the third manager to fall by the wayside to be replaced by the experienced Tomi Morgan. Though the club once more narrowly retained its WPL place in 2008/09 league reorganisation meant that six clubs were relegated in 2009/10 and this time there was no hiding place for Port as they were demoted to the Cymru Alliance LLANDUDNO FC TODAY’S OPPONENTS OFFICIAL MATCHDAY PROGRAMME KEY PLAYERS:

Llandudno welcome Porthmadog to Maesdu Park in the JD Cymru North following loss away at Buck- ley Town.

Porthmadog, who finished 3rd last season, come into this game after picking up their first point of the season at home to Llangefni Town.

They currently sit second from bottom on the table but will be looking to pick things up after getting up and running on Tuesday night.

Llandudno are looking for their first win since beating Rhyl on the 27th of August, but could and should have got a lot more out of the last three games.

Robbie Parry is set to be fit from the start against Porthmadog after he came on in the second half against Buckley and impressed.

Dean Seager also added to his tally from the penalty spot last time out and will be looking to keep his goalscoring form up.

Llandudno welcome a few past players to Maesdu Park with Porthmadog as Jay Gibbs, John Owen and Telor Williams are all expected to feature, who also played for Llandudno at some point during last season.

We will still be without the injured Gerwyn Jones, Jacob Farleigh and Liam Langford, but all other play- ers in the squad are expected to be available for selection.

LLANDUDNO FC CLUB NEWS OFFICIAL MATCHDAY PROGRAMME DANNY HUGHES WINS AUGUST PLAYER OF THE MONTH

Captain Danny Hughes was voted by the fans as our Player of the Month for August after seeing off fierce competition from Robbie Parry, Shaun Pearson and Dean Seager. Danny got two goals and assist against Corwen, and was a key figure in our victory over Rhyl towards the end of the month. “I’m happy to have won the award, it’s always really good to get the recognition off the supporters.” Said Danny. Danny is one of two players who remained from the end of last season’s squad and said that there is still quite a gap between the two leagues, but that the JD Cymru North has positives. “I think the gap is still quite a bit in standards to be honest. There’s some good teams and players in the Cymru North who could fit in the but the quality is still quite a bit better in my opin- ion. The Cymru North is a lot better for local derbies, travelling and for the fans etc though.” Said the captain. In terms of our hit and miss start to the season, Danny feels that we need to start being ruthless in front of goal. “It’s been a hot and cold start… It’s about finding the consistency. We’ve not been ruthless enough in front of goal and could have come away with a few more points than we have on other days, but we haven’t;.” “We’re a new group and it’ll take time… Hopefully we can get a big three points against Porthmadog to then go on and start a run.” Said Danny

LLANDUDNO FC CHAIRMAN’S COLUMN OFFICIAL MATCHDAY PROGRAMME OUR TOWN, OUR TEAM

After another tough game, away at Buckley, we are looking forward to wel- coming Porthmadog to Maesdu Park this weekend.

The stat of the season hasn’t gone as we had hoped, with a new group of players still getting to know each other, but there are lots of positives we can take from the early games.

We now need to get some more points on the board, and hopefully get a run going, through the rest of September…

Training is going well, and we have one or two players working their way back to match fitness, and we are looking forward to the squad being bol- stered, by returns from injuries.

Lets’s hope it’s another exciting game, and that we take the three points.

LLANDUDNO FC CLUB NEWS OFFICIAL MATCHDAY PROGRAMME PLAYER IN FOCUS LEE THOMAS

Position: Versatile (Forward/Right Back) | Age: 35 Previous Clubs: Conwy Borough, Llandudno Albion | At the club since: 15 years across two spells

Lee was brought back to the club this Summer after talks with Matty and has started every game so far this season in the JD Cymru North, one of the only two players remaining from the Europa League qualifying squad, he has found himself to once again be a key part of our team.

Known originally for his goal scoring ability, he is now opting for a different role at right-back, where he has already picked up two assists, showing still his natural goal threat.

On the start to the season, Lee feels we have been punished for not taking chances and killing games whilst on top. “It’s not the start we wanted, our performances haven’t been bad apart from the first half against Gresford. We have been creating loads of scoring chances but not taken them and we have been punished for it.” Said Lee.

Lee’s change of position to right back has been one he has welcomed, “I’m really enjoying playing there, I’ve not really had to change my game because I did play a lot on the wing, so it’s pretty much the same but with more defensive work with it.”

The competitiveness of the league has been clear throughout the season already, with all the sides not just Llandudno, and Lee is still optimistic of the side getting into the top six of the Cymru North. “I think to be in the top six would be a good season, with us being a new team. I think the league is really competitive and think anyone can beat anyone on the day.” Said Lee.

“It’s really important that we get back to winning ways against Porthmadog, it’s not nice losing games but I’m sure we will turn it around if we keep creating the chances we have been doing.”

Lee was brought back this Summer from Conwy Borough and has been a bright spark so far in the side, giving us a real attacking intent on the right hand side of the pitch.
