Worldwide, it has become clear that Foreword global warming is the greatest eco- logical and social challenge of our time. Achieving the climate targets are part of a bigger scheme: a global transition in Germany and Europe towards a society that no longer relies on fossil fuels. This transition is the only possible response to the climate crisis, and in its magnitude and significance comparable to such major historical upheavals as industrialisation or digitalisation.
