Dear friends of Winter Sports,

The People’s Republic of China and Finland have a long history in sport cooperation. Soon after forming diplomatic relations in 1950, China sent a team to the Helsinki 1952 Olympic Games. This was the first time China took part in the Olympics. In the run-up towards the Beijing Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2022, Finland and China have decided to deepen cooperation in Winter Sports. Currently, this cooperation plays an important role in our bilateral relations, as we are celebrating the China-Finland Year of Winter Sports. The foundation was laid down in the Joint Partnership that was agreed between the Presidents of China and Finland in 2017.

This is my first official visit to China as Minister of Science and Culture of Finland. I am very pleased to see that our relations in winter sports are at all-time high.
