As part of the Congress Week, the FIS Council as well as the various FIS Technical Committees, Sub-Committees and Working Groups will meet from Sunday 13 th to Wednesday 16 th May, whilst the FIS Congress (General Assembly) itself takes place on Friday 18 th May. The Organisers of the FIS Ski Flying World Championships 2022 and the FIS Alpine, Nordic, Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Championships 2023 will be elected by the FIS Council on Thursday 17 th May. It dealt with several important items on its agenda and the main decisions include the following: Decisions directly related to ski sports FIS World Cup calendars 2010/2011 to 2013/2014 The Council approved minor modifications to the FIS World Cup Calendars for the 2010/2011 season which were proposed by the respective Technical Committees, the final versions of which are available on the FIS website. FIS World Championships and Junior World Championships For the Freestyle and Snowboard World Championships 2011 in Deer Valley (USA) and La Molina (SPA), respectively, the Council confirmed the addition of slopestyle to the program. The final schedules for both Championships will be published on the FIS website shortly. The FIS Congress 2004 in Miami decided that as from 2011 prize money would be paid out at the FIS World Championships with the same purse as the current minimum for World Cup in the respective discipline, whilst 50% is covered by the Organizing Committee and 50% by FIS. Today, the Council decided on the following mode for distribution: Prize money is paid out to the top six competitors in individual competitions and the top three teams in team competitions, who are the competitors participating at the official medal ceremony for the respective competition: Individual competitions 1st 40% Team competitions 2nd 25% 1st 50% 3rd 15% 2nd 30% 4th 10% 3rd 20% 5th 6% 6th 4% In the case of Ski Jumping for ladies, since the World Cup prize money for ladies has not yet been determined, the amount will be CHF 32’500 for Oslo 2011, which is the same level as for Nordic Combined.

Ski Pass, EUR Adults Born 2002 or earlier 37 Youth Born 2003 or later 27 A Ski Pass is an inexpensive licence product for non-competitive skiing of various types (alpine, freestyle, cross-country, ski jumping, Nordic combined). The licence fee always includes Sports Cover for ordinary skiers to cover snow sports. In addition to non-competitive sports, a Ski Pass entitles you to participate in competitions in all age groups as follows: Cross-country skiing and ski jumping/Nordic combined • regional and district competition • national competition organised by your own club or • the Hopeasompa finals • veterans’ Finnish championships in cross-country skiing Alpine and freestyle skiing • in club and regional competitions organised by SHL or SSF (the Finnish- and Swedish-language Ski Associations of Finland) that are outside the national competitive calendar, or • national competition organised by your own club Children aged 12 (born 2009) or younger and adults aged 65 (born 1956) or older may take part in national or higher competitions in all disciplines with a Ski Pass.     NORDICOM REVIEW The Fall of the Queen of Nordic Skiing A comparative analysis of the Swedish and Norwegian media coverage of the Therese Johaug scandal Ulrik WagnerI & Elsa KristiansenII I Department of Marketing and Management, University of Southern Denmark II USN School of Business, University of South-Eastern Norway Abstract In 2016, Norwegian cross-country skier Therese Johaug made her positive doping test public. We compare how the Norwegian and Swedish media covered the ensuing scandal with the aim of discovering how constructions of subjectivity, national identity, anti-doping policy and the role of cross-country skiing are interrelated. Drawing on a critical discourse analytical research design, we identify significant differences: the Norwegian media hesi- tated to call it a doping scandal and occasionally portrayed Johaug as a victim, whereas the Swedish media provided a platform for harsh criticism of the Norwegian’s use of medicine and emphasised the individual responsibility of the athlete. Thus, this study elucidates how sport is mediated as part of a national rivalry between two Scandinavian countries that are both heavily engaged in cross-country skiing. Keywords: critical discourse analysis, doping, subjectivity, Scandinavian rivalry, national identity Introduction For decades, sport has been a vehicle for the creation of national identity (Boyle & Haynes, 2009) and a very conspicuous way of demonstrating national performance (Bairner, 2015; Li et al., 2016). Historically, the best and perhaps most radical example is the 1936 Berlin Olympics which, under the aegis of Nazism, presented Germany through the works of Leni Riefenstahl. Thus, one can argue that sport is one of many social practices that contributes to the construction of “imagined communities” (Ander- son, 1983).
