2) Erravally Praveen S/o E.Ramulu, aged 25yrs,Occ: Helper in Venkatesh Railway Cargo, R/o Near Hanuman Temple, Hamalbasthi, Chilkalaguda, Secunderabad.

Brief facts of the case:-

On 23-01-2020 night hours, on credible information the Commissioner’s Task Force, Central Zone team along with Gopalapuram police apprehended two accused persons by name Gujalavar Venkateshand Erravally Praveenboth are transporting banned “WIN” cigarettes through train at parking place near platform no.10, Secunderabad railway station.

On enquiry it is revealed that the accused Gujalavar Venkatesh is running Venkatesh Railway Cargo Business at Hanumanpet, , Secunderabad and he was doing loading and unloading of goods along with his workers at Secunderabad Railway Station. He got introduction with one person by name Javeed Khan R/o Mumbai who is running parcel services at Mumbai Railway Station. Javeed Khan is fraudulently transporting banned foreign “Win” cigarettes from Guwahati to Mumbai via Secunderabad through train with the help of GujalavarVenkatesh to avoid customs duty and also to avoid GST which is causing wrongful loss to Government. These cigarettes cause endanger to the human life and hazardous to environment as they content a very high content of tobaco. In this process GujalavarVenkatesh received “Win” Cigarettes Cartons at Secunderabad railway station from Guwahati and the same material will send to Mumbai. In this case the accused Javeed khan is at large.

Modus operandi: -

Win and other banned foreign cigarettes suspected to be coming from Chainaand Bangladesh via Kolkata. Smuggling foreign cigarettes is lucrative business to black marketers make a huge profit as they avoid customs duty. Smuggled cigarettes are don’t have pictorial warnings on them, as it is a mandatory as per the provisions of Sec.20(2) of Cigarette and Other Tobacco Product Act 2003. The cigarettes don’t have manufacturing address on the packets and No bills of procuring or importing. The margin involved in smuggling of cigarettes is almost 100%.

Win and many other foreign cigarettes brands are cheap and which are available for low price, act as a replacement to beedis in India. Many foreign cigarettes contain a very high content of tobacco dust which is especially injurious to health. Inspite of their hazardous nature, foreign brand cigarettes are a big hit among youth due to their slim and distinct flavor. They counter parts in other states from where these cigarettes are believed to be smuggled.

The increase of smuggling of cigarettes into the country is only robbing the government taxes and leading to the effect on tobacco farmers in the country. We are suspecting several other racketeers operating from Railway Station and other areas in Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

The arrested accused persons along with seized material were handed over to SHO, GopalapuramPS, for further investigation.
