DEAN CHOSEN FOR SPORTS ILLUSTRATED “FACES IN THE CROWD”: • Freshman Gabe Dean earned a great deal of attention after he knocked off Penn State’s Ed Ruth in the finals of the Southern Scuffle on Jan. 2. Sports Illustrated even took notice. • The rookie was featured in the “Faces In The Crowd” section of the Jan. 20 issue of the magazine, as well as on SI.com. • Dean was named the U.S.A. Wrestling and EIWA Wrestler of the Week after he ended Ruth’s 84-match win streak dating back to 2011 with a 7-4 decision in Chattanooga, Tenn.

DAKE CHOSEN FOR EIWA HALL OF FAME: • Four-time NCAA champion Kyle Dake has been named to the EIWA Hall of Fame. He will join three others who will be inducted at the 2014 EIWA Championship on Sunday, March 9 at the Palestra in Philadelphia, Pa. • Dake will be joined in the class by fellow former Ivy standouts Jesse Jantzen (Harvard), David Pottruck (Penn) and Matt Valenti (Penn). • Dake became the first NCAA wrestler to win national titles in four different weight classes, the first to win four national titles without taking a redshirt season and just the third athlete to claim four national titles overall. • The 2013 Hodge Award winner as the national Wrestler of the Year was a three-time EIWA Wrestler of the Year. The Outstanding Wrestler of the NCAA tournament in 2013, Dake became the third Cornell wrestler to capture the award and the first since Dave Auble in 1960. • He wrapped up his amazing career with a 137-4 record, including winning his final 79 collegiate matches. • Dake was named the Charles H. Moore Senior co-Athlete of the Year at Cornell, the Sports Illustrated Male College Athlete of the Year and was an ESPY finalist for Best Male College Athlete in 2013.

EIWA WRESTLER OF THE WEEK: • Cornell has had two wrestlers capture EIWA Wrestler of the Week honors this season. • Cornell freshman 184-pounder Gabe Dean was named the EIWA Wrestler of the Week and the USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week on Jan. 6 after winning the Southern Scuffle title with a pair of wins over to-ranked opponents, including knocking off two-time defending national champion Ed Ruth of Penn State in the final. • For the second week in a row, a Cornell freshman wrestler pulled an upset that earned the attention of the college world. For the second straight week, that wrestler was rewarded as the EWIA Wrestler of the Week. It was Brian Realbuto receiving the accolades on Jan. 13. • For Realbuto, the upset of seventh-ranked Joey Napoli of Lehigh in the 157-pound match of Sunday’s dual wasn’t so much the final result as how it happened. He used a five-point first period to dominate Napoli in an 8-0 major decision.
