Your Contribution CContributionrCCContr Seven great reasons to contribute to Las Patronas

Put your donation to work where it’s needed most in our community. Las Patronas is a 100% volunteer-run organization with no paid staff. All net fundraising proceeds go to our beneficiaries.

Know exactly where your financial giving goes.

Las Patronas provides needed funding for critical capital items such as equipment and capital improvements rather than salaries, overhead or consumable supplies.

Simplify your research efforts.

Las Patronas researches every grant application thoroughly and requires competing bids for proposed purchases. A team of Las Patronas members visits every requesting organization for an in-person interview and facility inspection.

Reach a broad geographic range within San Diego County.

All of your underwriting dollars stay in San Diego and are directed to nonprofit groups located throughout the County.

Diversify your giving through one simple underwriting opportunity.

Las Patronas takes care to balance the allocation of funds among a variety of organizations. This allows your contribution to benefit seniors, military families, the homeless, and disabled members of our community, in addition to medical, youth, cultural, educational and environmental organizations.

Make a difference by reaching deserving groups that are often under the radar.

Las Patronas considers proposals from highly visible community organizations but also supports grassroots groups that have little fundraising expertise. Institutions such as Scripps Health and The Old Globe share the funding stage with neighborhood clinics, educational programs, small arts groups, and organizations assisting underserved communities.

Be a vital and visible community partner.

We are delighted to create ongoing positive media opportunities through our own newsletter, website, La Jolla banner program and Jewel Ball collateral material, as well as through community sources such as newspaper articles and our beneficiary organizations.

A Tradition of Giving

Las Patronas is a philanthropic organization with a long history of giving. Since its inception in 1946, Las Patronas has donated more than $20 million to over a thousand charitable institutions in San Diego. The funds distributed to these organizations are generated through yearlong fundraising efforts and the annual presentation of the Jewel Ball, one of San Diego’s most enduring social, cultural and philanthropic traditions.

Las Patronas is highly respected for its fiduciary responsibility to its donors and great stewardship of each contribution it receives. The Las Patronas grant process involves a thorough evaluation of each organization that applies for funding including the review of its mission, operations and capital needs. All qualified grant applicants are visited on site and interviewed by a team of Las Patronas members. Grant requests are then reviewed by the entire membership in order to prioritize funding for critically needed capital items. This ensures that our support is distributed to nonprofit organizations whose mission and reach will have the greatest impact on the citizens within our community.

All funds raised by Las Patronas stay in San Diego County and are distributed to many small grassroots nonprofits as well as larger, more visible organizations. By giving to Las Patronas, a company or individual diversifies its philanthropic giving – reaching children and seniors, the homeless and the disabled, emergency response teams and the military as well as supporting scientific research, health services, the environment and cultural arts – in a broad geographical range throughout San Diego.

With its philanthropic partners, both the sponsors and the nonprofit organizations, Las Patronas creates meaningful connections that touch countless lives and make San Diego a better place to live for everyone.

As you look over the list of our recent beneficiaries, you will see we have chosen nonprofits that cover a wide range of services. Here are just a few examples of what your support meant in 2017:

A Reason to Survive – A passenger van for youth outreach programs Center for Community Solutions – Painting and upgrades to long-term emergency housing and a new storage shed International Rescue Committee in San Diego – A passenger van for refugee assistance programs La Jolla Playhouse – Hearing loop systems in the three main-stage theaters Lawrence Family Jewish Community Center – An 84-passenger school bus National Conflict Resolution Center – New computer hardware infrastructure Reuben H. Fleet Science Center – A panel van for educational programs Scripps Mercy Hospital Foundation – Infant bed warmers for the Maternal and Child Health Department Urban Corps of San Diego County – A pickup truck for youth education and job training programs Voices for Children – An integrated phone system for their offices
