Your Contribution Las Patronas funds grant requests for critically-needed capital items to qualified nonprofit applicants. Our beneficiaries come to us from across San Diego County, and span every area of service to the community. Every dollar given to Las Patronas impacts our community on a very personal level. By funding grants for critically-needed capital items, we help fill a niche in the philanthropic community that otherwise may be overlooked, as many grant-making organizations will fund programs but not the tools needed to run those programs. Las Patronas funds these capital items with an eye to helping our valued San Diego nonprofits manage themselves more efficiently, creating a more sustainable future and ensuring that your contribution will be used by people right here in San Diego for years to come. Our beneficiaries are chosen from a large pool of applicants and are evaluated on the basis of their strength of mission, service to the people of San Diego, breadth of influence in the community, and fiscal responsibility. Qualified applicants must also be interviewed on site by a Las Patronas grant team before they can be considered for funding. As you look over the list of our recent beneficiaries, you'll see that we have chosen nonprofits that cover a very wide range of services. During the last year alone, your donations funded 45 Las Patronas grants. Here are just a few examples of what your support has meant: • A critically-needed new roof for a Next Step transitional housing program for the Center for Community Solutions • A 15-passenger van for students from low-income homes who attend The Nativity Prep Academy in southeast San Diego • A cargo minivan for the “Waterproofing San Diego” program that teaches aquatic education and drowning prevention at the San Diego Junior Lifeguard Foundation • Exciting touch-screen technology equipment for the downtown Children’s Library at San Diego’s new Central Library • Two new CARESCAPE newborn patient monitors to capture vital information for Sharp Mary Birch Hospital for Women and Children • New computers, cameras, and software for empowering students to use digital media to create change at Outside the Lens • A refrigerated cargo van for donated food picKup and delivery to those in need at So Others May Eat • Two replica Bombardeta Cannons for the Juan Cabrillo’s San Salvador ship will be provided for the Maritime Museum Association of San Diego • Uniforms for 1,100 intellectually-challenged athletes with the Special Olympics San Diego County • A diesel-powered brush chipper for environmental, forestry and habitat management projects at Urban Corps of San Diego County And there are so many more, representing the arts, culture, music, health, youth and senior services, education, animals, the environment, medical research, the homeless - in short, services that affect us all. A Tradition of Giving Las Patronas is a philanthropic organization with a long history of giving. Since its inception in 1946, Las Patronas has donated more than $17 million to over a thousand charitable institutions in San Diego. The funds distributed to these organizations are generated through year-long fundraising efforts and the annual presentation of the Jewel Ball, one of San Diego’s most enduring social, cultural, and philanthropic traditions.
