promoted to General. During the early part of the First World War, he commanded an army corps. In 1916, he succeeded Putnik as Chief-of- Staff of the Supreme and fought the Bulgarians. In 1918, following a dispute with French Genera! Guyomat, he was relieved of his post as Chief-of-Staff of the Supreme Command. He was given command of the 1st Army and with it laid siege to Sofia. He took the surrender of a goodly portion of the Bugarian Army and was promoted Field-Marshal as of 1918. In 1921, Bojovi~ was again appointed Chief-of Staff to the Supreme Command. Shortly thereafter, he retired. Twenty years later, in 1941, he was recalled to duty as Assistant Commander-in-Chief (the title being purely honorific because of his age--the putative Commander-in-Chief, the King, was a minor). Field-Marshal Bojovi~ died in Belgrade in 1945. Upon the the reinstitution of this ra~k (in 194~, by the Partisan Forces-- sanctioned by the ist Assembly of Jajce), the use of a baton for the rank of Marshal of Yugoslavia was not sanctioned. However, in 1946, a badge was created~ "The Badge of a Marshal." This insigne is roughly circular in shape (See Figure 5), made of platinum, diamonds and rubies incorporating a circular medallion charged with the State Arms, placed over five gold and diamond torches, and surrounded by a number of concentirc circles with various motifs from the war. This badge, of which only one exists, was made according to the model done by Antun Augustin~i~ (the creator of the sculpture, Peace, in the Park of the .
