Dear Readers, At a time when hard copy print publications are rapidly disappearing in favor of the ipad, iphone, kindle or whatever the next device may be that replaces print...it’s comforting to know that there are venues that exist where we still cherish the hard copy printed word. You know what we’re talking about...that special time just before the curtain goes up at TPAC, Schermerhorn, The Franklin and the Martha Rivers Ingram Center for the Performing Arts at Vanderbilt. Clearly the performing arts venue setting is going to be the last bastion for print in America. If you or your is interested in advertising, please let us know. We offer a very unique advertising package that not only includes all seven Playbill publications listed below, but also our very popular newsstand annual guide, Nashville Arts & Entertainment. We are the only print publisher in Nashville that offers our advertisers newsstand exposure plus the finest venues where you have the confidence in knowing that your advertising message is actually being seen. No fast forward- ing, no channel surfing, and no distractions before the curtain goes up...everyone is focused on their Playbill. We are thankful for all our readers and advertisers...couldn’t do it without you!

THE MATCHUP THAT’S NO MATCHUP. When comparing the BMW 528i Sedan to rivals like the Mercedes E350, some stark differences quickly come to light. To start, the 528i is faster than the E350, and more fuel-effi cient, with 34 mpg hwy vs. 30 with the Mercedes.* The 528i widens its lead with a comprehensive maintenance plan (that costs you nothing), and a lower MSRP than the E-Class. O’Brien TPAC President and Chief Executive Officer

For years, I’ve announced seasons from our stages, met with patrons in our lobby, and shared the latest news in columns like this. Now, I’m making the leap to Twitter. Follow !

I’ve just begun to tweet as a fresh way to talk to TPAC patrons and to hear from you. I’ll give you insights into TPAC operations, the Broadway network in Nashville, New York, and the nation … maybe even around the world.

I hope we’ll all have some fun sharing short snippets of news, amusing stories, and general observations from our daily lives, our love for theatre, and our commitment to arts education. You’ll see another side of my work and my life as TPAC’s president and chief executive officer. And, hopefully, I’ll learn more about you as well.

A decade ago, who could have imagined that 140 characters or less would be used in some of our most fun, personal and interesting conversations? Who could have known we could reach so many people so easily, whether it’s to say “Hi” or build and engage communities around the world?

The more I tweet, the more I hope to hear from you, too. I always want to hear what you loved or hated at TPAC, or what you want to see next. But I also want to learn about the books you’re reading, the movies that captivate you and, of course, the theatre, dance, and music that touches your life. Saw a Broadway show in New York, , , or LA and absolutely loved it? Tweet me.

Talk to you soon,

@tpacCEO

BE aWARE & BEWARE TPAC Patron shares her unfortunate experience with scalper Beth Smith of Nashville was waiting for the hour that tickets to The Lion King went on sale .

She had marked her calendar . It was her birthday . So excited, she pulled over on the side of the road to purchase seats with her cell phone .

An internet search for “TPAC Nashville Tennessee” led her to the site of an online scalper who crafted a web page that mimicked the Tennessee Performing Arts Center .

She paid $1,200 for six tickets in the tier of Andrew Jackson Hall that never arrived .

“What upsets me most is that they went to a lot of trouble to trick me . I’ve been to TPAC before . When I purchased the tickets I never knew that I was not on the TPAC web site,” said Smith, who contacted TPAC directly after a suspicious phone call . “A place called Goody Tickets told me there was a problem with my seat locations . They could not provide six tickets together in the same row . That just didn’t sound right ”.

It wasn’t right and Smith hoped that by sharing her story “I can help prevent this from happening to someone else ”.

She disputed the charge (and anticipates a credit, as other banking institutions have done for TPAC patrons in similar situations) .

Through TPAC, she purchased six tickets to The Lion King for $461 –about one-third the price of her original transaction .

Robert sings. He sings because it makes people happy, something he tries to do everyday. Robert is also blind. When you give to Goodwill, you give Robert a reason to sing. The simple act of donating the things that you no longer need means job training and opportunities for thousands of Tennesseans who have difficulty finding employment. Donate Today and Change a Life.
