The year 2013 was the year of exploring new ways and new directions for the activities of the research groups and the whole institute. We can consider 2014 and 2015 as a years of strengthening, when we improved and extended our activities. In 2016 we had to prepare a 5 years report, which was evaluated by different committees of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. At the end of the evaluation we have received the “excellent” mark for the Wigner RCP’s activity and for both of the two member institutes’ activity. In this Annual Report 2016 we display and summarize the scientific achievements of the research groups, which gave the basis of this important result. The prestigious MTA Momentum Research Groups, all of the eight, continued their well supported and visible research activity with excellent results, as well as the one group supported in the framework of the National Brain Project (“NAP: Nemzeti Agy Program”). The Wigner scientific community has selected
