Inglaterra quiere recuperar el liderazgo del norte, Francia, Gales e Irlanda olvidar el Mundial, Escocia dar la sorpresa e Italia seguir mejorando. ¿Qué nos deparará la nueva Francia? Francia, actual campeona del Seis Naciones, llega después de un Mundial irregular y con una sensación de fracaso en todo el país. Eran los organizadores de la máxima competición del balón oval y tenían que ir a por todas. El país entero estaba volcado. Comenzaron mal, con una derrota en el partido inaugural ante la sorpresa del Mundial, Argentina. Pero, los de Laporte reaccionaron y poco a poco mejoraron su juego. Tenían el peor cruce de cuartos posible, se medían a los favoritos, los ‘All Blacks’ y los derrotaron en un sensacional partido. Sólo Inglaterra les separaba de la final soñada y… volvieron a decepcionar en un mal partido en semifinales donde su eterno rival les apartó del sueño de levantar la Copa Webb Ellis en el Stade de France. Acabaron como empezaron, perdiendo contra Argentina y desilusionando a su afición. Ahora, después de cambiar de seleccionador, y con un equipo muy joven esperan resarcirse del sinsabor mundialista. En medio de una gran renovación generacional en la que, entre otros, se han retirado los dos grandes capitanes, Fabian Pelous y Raphaël Ibáñez, el segunda línea Lionel Nallet cogerá los galones de esta nueva Francia. Inglaterra. Una máquina muy eficaz… si la dirige Jonny Wilkinson. El caso de Inglaterra es bien distinto. El ‘Quince de la Rosa’ ha demostrado que es un equipo muy competitivo en todas las circunstancias. Nadie apostaba por ellos antes del Mundial y se plantaron en la final eliminando en cuartos a Australia y en semifinales acabaron con el sueño francés. La espina que se les quedó clavada fue no poder con el poderío sudafricano en la final y lograr así su segundo título consecutivo. Ahora, intentarán volver a conquistar un 6 Naciones que se les resiste desde el 2003. Demasiado tiempo para un equipo como Inglaterra. Una vez más, la seña de identidad de Inglaterra será eficacia, eficacia y eficacia. Como siempre, no debemos esperar de los de Ashton juego bonito o espectacular pero si contundencia en defensa y pocos riesgos en ataque. Eso sí, si una cosa se ha demostrado en el Mundial, es que para que la orquesta inglesa funcione necesita de su director. Y este no es otro que Jonny Wilkinson. Irlanda y Gales, a olvidar el Mundial. Irlanda lo tenía todo para alzarse con el 6 Naciones del año pasado. En un final muy apretado, Francia les arrebató un torneo que no logran desde el 1985. Y es que este equipo es esa eterna promesa que nunca termina de explotar. Sus jugadores siempre son temidos, su afición da la talla año tras año, pero a estos guerreros vestidos de verde se les resiste una y otra vez el éxito. El equipo de Brian O'Driscoll y Ronan O'Gara, que decepcionó estrepitosamente en la cita mundialista, busca en este 6 Naciones demostrar que se trata de una magnifica generación de jugadores llamados a lograr algo grande. Gales, como siempre, es capaz de lo mejor y de lo peor. Lo mejor, el Grand Slam logrado en 2005. Lo peor, la vergonzosa eliminación a las primera de cambio del Mundial de Francia. Mucho dependerá la actuación de los Dragones Rojos en el primer partido. Si tienen una buena actuación ante Inglaterra en Twickenham podrían volver a dar una grata sorpresa. Escocia lucha este año por algo más que por no llevarse la cuchara de madera. La actuación de los escoceses en el Mundial fue más que aceptable. Tan sólo los ‘Pumas’, en su mejor Mundial de la historia, consiguieron apearles de la competición. Además, dieron en la primera fase la cara ante los espectaculares ‘All Blacks’ y salieron bien parados en el apretado duelo por el segundo puesto del grupo ante Italia. En esta edición del 6 Naciones, Escocia debe aprovechar que juega en casa ante Francia e Inglaterra y luchar por hacer algo grande en un torneo que no gana desde el 1999. Ganó dos partidos y tanto Escocia como Gales quedaron por detrás de ellos en la clasificación. Los italianos deben olvidar el Mundial en el que no estuvieron a la atura y recordar el espíritu ganador con el que se plantaron en el 6 Naciones del año pasado. Questo libro è dedicato a Piero Rinaldi, scomparso a Padova il 4 febbraio all'età di 65 anni, da oltre 40 anni fotografo di cronaca con la sua agenzia Candid Camera per quotidiani e fedele documentatore di rugby per diversi quotidiani veneti, riviste specializzate e libri. Rinaldi ha seguito quattro coppe del mondo di rugby a partire dalla prima edizione nel 1987 in Nuovo Zelanda, oltre a mondiali under 20 e universitari, e per tre decenni la nazionale italiana di rugby nei test in Italia e in tour in Europa e nel mondo. Dal 2000 ha seguito il torneo delle Sei nazioni. È tra i fondatori del club ad inviti del XV della Colonna di Padova, selezione veneta che ha incontrato i maggiori club continentali sino a sfidare gli All Blacks di John Kirwan nel 1991.
