Since time immemorial... human kind is drying itself with a piece of cloth !

Ancient manuscripts records that the towel was first produced in the city of Bursa, Turkey in 15th century and then spread all over world. The name “terry” comes from the French word “tirer” which means to pull out, referring to the pile loops which were pulled out by hand to make absorbent traditional Turkish toweling. These towels were known worldwide as Turkish Towels, which were made of cotton or linen, & in periodic records the name was given as ”Peshtamal”.

Because of its lightness and high water absorption capacity, the peshtamals were still very light even after getting wet, they were used in Turkish hammams before they were used at home. With the increasing demand for Turkish towels, towels began to change from the 18th century onwards and textile hubs started working on more detailed designs.

Hammam towel is a flat-woven, cotton fabric that has been primarily used as a traditional cloth in Turkish Hammams.

The contemporary hammam towels that we use today have evolved from this historical hammam tradition.

Nowadays, they have become very trendy, super absorbent and quick to dry bath & beach towels .

Hammam towels are very much like classic terry towels in terms of drying properties. They dry you perfectly and efficiently dry fast.

The difference between regular towels and Hammam Towels is just their thickness.
