Výčet druhů vychází z kombinace pramenů FROESE & Pauly (FishBase verze 4/2007) a ESCHMEYERA (On-Line Version, Updated June 19, 2007). • Early Stages of Fishes in the Western North Atlantic Ocean Volume
ISBN 0-9689167-4-x Early Stages of Fishes in the Western North Atlantic Ocean (Davis Strait, Southern Greenland and Flemish Cap to Cape Hatteras) Volume One Acipenseriformes through Syngnathiformes Michael P. Fahay ii Early Stages of Fishes in the Western North Atlantic Ocean iii Dedication This monograph is dedicated to those highly skilled larval fish illustrators whose talents and efforts have greatly facilitated the study of fish ontogeny. The works of many of those fine illustrators grace these pages. iv Early Stages of Fishes in the Western North Atlantic Ocean v Preface The contents of this monograph are a revision and update of an earlier atlas describing the eggs and larvae of western Atlantic marine fishes occurring between the Scotian Shelf and Cape Hatteras, North Carolina (Fahay, 1983). The three-fold increase in the total num- ber of species covered in the current compilation is the result of both a larger study area and a recent increase in published ontogenetic studies of fishes by many authors and students of the morphology of early stages of marine fishes. It is a tribute to the efforts of those authors that the ontogeny of greater than 70% of species known from the western North Atlantic Ocean is now well described. Michael Fahay 241 Sabino Road West Bath, Maine 04530 U.S.A. vi Acknowledgements I greatly appreciate the help provided by a number of very knowledgeable friends and colleagues dur- ing the preparation of this monograph. Jon Hare undertook a painstakingly critical review of the entire monograph, corrected omissions, inconsistencies, and errors of fact, and made suggestions which markedly improved its organization and presentation.

The study of the Portuguese marine ichthyofauna has a long historical tradition, rooted back in the 18th Century. Here we present an annotated checklist of the marine fishes from Portuguese waters, including the area encompassed by the proposed extension of the Portuguese continental shelf and the Economic Exclusive Zone (EEZ). The list is based on historical literature records and taxon occurrence data obtained from natural history collections, together with new revisions and occurrences.

  • Presence of the Red Jollytail, Brachygalaxias Bullocki (Regan
Correa-Araneda et al. Revista Chilena de Historia Natural 2014, 87:20 http://www.revchilhistnat.com/content/87/1/20 SHORT REPORT Open Access Presence of the red jollytail, Brachygalaxias bullocki (Regan, 1908) (Galaxiformes: Galaxiidae), in freshwater forested wetlands from Chile Francisco Correa-Araneda1,2,3*, Patricio De Los Ríos2,3 and Evelyn Habit4 Abstract Background: Brachygalaxias bullocki (Regan, 1908) is a small-sized freshwater fish species (41 to 46 mm) and endemic to Chile. Its biology has still various knowledge gaps, and its distribution range has been reduced in the last decade due to human intervention. Findings: In this article, for the first time, its presence in forested wetlands of Chile (38°52′ to 39°02′ S) is documented. The presence of this species in these ecosystems is restricted to wetlands with permanent water regime and depths ranging from 15.7 to 83.5 cm. Conclusions: The physicochemical habitat conditions show important seasonal variations, suggesting that B. bullocki is resistant to a wide range of temperatures, as well as different levels of dissolved oxygen and conductivity. Keywords: Brachygalaxias bullocki; Fish fauna; Forested wetlands; Conservation Findings Consequently, B. bullocki changes in the past 26 years from Brachygalaxias bullocki (Regan, 1908) is an endemic, small- a vulnerable status of conservation (Glade 1988; Campos sized (41 to 46 mm) fish species (Stokell 1954; Cifuentes et al. 1998) to almost endanger (MMA 2014). Our goal is et al. 2012). It is endemic to Chile and still several know- to document, for the first time, the presence of this species ledge gaps about its biology exist (Habit and Victoriano in forested wetlands of Chile, providing more evidence on 2012).

Abstract: Red List of Endangered Fishes (Pisces) in Austria The present paper follows the guidelines for updating the Red Lists of threatened animals of Austria (Zulka et al.

E-mail: [email protected] Abstract Recent pelagic and benthic trawling activities over the Brazilian continental slope between 11° and 23°S captured nine species representing five genera of the stomiiform family Sternoptychidae. Among these, three species are new records for Brazilian waters: Sternoptyx pseudodiaphana, Argyripnus atlanticus, and Polyipnus sp. The known distributions of Argyropelecus aculeatus and Maurolicus stehmanni along the Brazilian coast are extended northward to 13°S and 16°S, respectively, while that of Sternoptyx diaphana is extended southward to 13°S. Argyropelecus hemigymnus, Argyropelecus sladeni, and Sternoptyx pseudobscura were rarely caught (n=2–16).

The existence of homol- ogous variation of chromosome number in different phyletic lines of this suborder is substantiated. It is sug- gested that the origin of homologous series is related to major genome rearrangements (simultaneous fusion of several chromosomes). STRUCTURE AND ORIGIN mon ancestor of Salmonoidei had 112 chromosomes OF THE GROUP and 144 to 156 chromosome arms [13].
