Accepted 3 November, 2008 A twelve month study on the size composition, growth, mortality and yield of Alectis alexandrinus revealed a length range of 11.5 - 33.8 cm (standard length). Employing the length frequency method in the FISAT II package gave the following results for the Von Bertanlanffy growth parameters: L = 35.23, K = 0.680, to = 0.3214 and = 2.926. The total mortality (Z) was 2.47, natural mortality (M) 1.39 and fishing mortality (F) 1.08.The relative biomass per recruit (knife edge selection) was Lc/ L = 0.05, E10 = 0.355 and E50 = 0.278. Although the exploitation rate (E) was 0.44 the Emax was 0.421 indicating moderate exploitation of the fish in Bonny River. There is room for increased effort in the fisheries. This family, comprising 29 genera, shows a remarkable diversity of habitat preferences, feeding, and behaviours. Twenty-four species belonging to seven genera have been reported in the Eastern Pacific region. The present study focuses on the relationship between the diet and the cephalic profile in the 24 endemic damselfishes of this region. Feeding habits were determined by means of underwater observations and the gathering of bibliographic data. Variations in cephalic profile were analyzed by means of geometric morphometrics and phylogenetic methods. The present study shows that the 24 species can be grouped into three main trophic guilds: zooplanktivores, algivores, and an intermediate group feeding on small pelagic and benthic preys. Shape variations were low within each genus except for Abudefduf. Phylogenetically adjusted regression reveals that head shape can be explained by differences in feeding habits. -

Received: 12/04/2020 Accepted: 18/07/2020 Abstract The first record of one fish species from the Mediterranean coasts of Syria is reported: the pomacentrid species Abudefduf vaigiensis. The specimen was caught on the 1st October 2019, using a fishing spear of sport fisherman at depth of 4 m from the coasts of south east of Arwad Island, south of Tartous City . The captured specimen was an adult individual of 118 mm in standard length (SL) , 159 mm in total length (TL) and 87.9 gr in body weight (BW). Two previously described morphological characters were used to separate the two congener species, Abudefduf vaigiensis and A. saxatilis. Several factors may explain the presence of this species in the Syrian marine waters. Keywords: Lessepsian migration, Eastern Mediterranean Sea, Syria, Sergeant fish. Introduction: The teleosts fish family Pomacentridae is considered among the highly diversified fish families in the Indo-West Pacific region. This family encompasses 399 valid species in this region (Eschmeyer et al., 2016). Among the genera of the Pomacentridae, the genus Abudefduf (sergeants), contains species that are normally broadly dispersed and abundant (Bertrand et al., 2017). -

Aims were: to update the inventory of fishing techniques, to detail the biodiversity involved, and for the first time to analyze the contribution of the landings. A list of the marine fishes of the Azores is presented. The list is based on a review of the literature combined with an examination of selected specimens available from collections of Azorean fishes deposited in museums, including the collection of fish at the Department of Oceanography and Fisheries of the University of the Azores (Horta). Personal information collected over several years is also incorporated. The geographic area considered is the Economic Exclusive Zone of the Azores. The list is organised in Classes, Orders and Families according to Nelson (1994). The scientific names are, for the most part, those used in Fishes of the North-eastern Atlantic and the Mediterranean (FNAM) (Whitehead et al. 1989), and they are organised in alphabetical order within the families. Clofnam numbers (see Hureau & Monod 1979) are included for reference. Information is given if the species is not cited for the Azores in FNAM. Whenever available, vernacular names are presented, both in Portuguese (Azorean names) and in English. Synonyms, misspellings and misidentifications found in the literature in reference to the occurrence of species in the Azores are also quoted. The 460 species listed, belong to 142 families; 12 species are cited for the first time for the Azores. -

Otolith assemblages have rarely been studied across the K-Pg boundary. The late Maastrichtian Kemp Clay of northeastern Texas and the Fox Hills Formation of North Dakota, and the early Danian Clayton Formation of Arkansas therefore offer new insights into how teleost fishes managed across the K-Pg boundary as reconstructed from their otoliths. The Kemp Clay contains 25 species, with 6 new species and 2 in open nomenclature and the Fox Hills Formation contains 4 species including 1 new species. The two otolith associations constitute the Western Interior Seaway (WIS) community. -
Response of Deep-Sea Scavengers to Ocean Acidification and the Odor from a Dead Grenadier

The survival of caged megafauna (Benthoctopus sp., Pachycara bulbi- ceps, Coryphaenoides armatus) exposed to CO2-rich and normal (control) seawater varied among species. Benthoctopus sp. and P. bulbiceps survived control conditions and month-long episodic exposure to acidic, CO2-rich waters (pH reductions of ~0.1 U). All C. armatus in both treatments died, potentially due to cage-related stress, predation, and exposure to acidic waters. High survival by P. bulbiceps and Benthoctopus under month-long exposure to CO2-rich waters indicates a physiologi- cal capacity to cope, at least temporarily, with stresses that will accompany expected future changes in ocean chemistry. The abundance of free-ranging scavengers was not correlated with variation in pH levels near fish cages. Incidental observations of abyssal scavengers collected using time-lapse cameras during these experiments were used secondarily to evaluate the hypothesis that macrourid fishes avoid the odor of dead conspecifics. Caged macrourids in view of time-lapse cameras died within 2 to 3 d, eliciting a strong response from the regional scavenger assemblage which aggregated near the cage.
