Meryl Streep Narrates Netflix’s WWII Docu-Series ‘Five Came Back’

Netflix on Tuesday released a trailer for its new original three-part documentary series Five Came Back based on ' bestselling book.

The story examines the experiences of five filmmakers who interrupted successful film careers to serve their country during World War II, risking their lives to tell the stories of the war to the U.S. civilian population.

The five directors featured are , , , and . In the trailer, five modern filmmakers-, , , and - offer their perspectives while serves as narrator.

In conjunction with the launch of Five Came Back on March 31, the streamer also will present 13 documentaries discussed in the series, such as Wyler's The Memphis Belle: A Story of a Flying Fortress, Stuart Heisler's The Negro Soldier, Huston's Report from the Aleutians, Ford's The Battle of Midway, Capra's The Battle of Russia and Stevens' Nazi Concentration Camps.Â

Directed by and written by Mark Harris, Five Came Back is an , and IACF Production in association with Passion Pictures and Rock Paper Scissors Entertainment. The series is executive produced by Steven Spielberg, Scott Rudin, , Angus Wall, Justin Falvey, Darryl Frank, Eli Bush, Jason Sack, Linda Carlson, Jason Sterman, Ben Cotner, Adam Del Deo and Lisa Nishimura.
