Entomol. Fennica 21: 243253. Parasitoids of leaf-spinning Lepidoptera associated with two isolated central Eu- ropean peat bogs were investigated. Five families of parasitoid Hymenoptera (Braconidae, Ichneumonidae, Eulophidae, Pteromalidae and Encyrtidae) were recorded. Three categories were recognised: (1) primary parasitoids, (2) faculta- tive hyperparasitoids and (3) obligatory hyperparasitoids. Ten species of Braco- nidae, five species and seven marked morphospecies among Ichneumonidae, and three species of Chalcidoidea were identified. Despite of some niche-specific (but less host-specific) parasitoids, all these hymenopterans are likely to be gen- eralists and none of them were confirmed to be habitat and/or host specialists. Unlike their eurytopic (opportunistic tyrphoneutral) parasitoids, the Lepidoptera hosts associated with peat bogs are partially highly stenotopic (tyrphobionts and tyrphophiles). The occurrence of parasitoids compared to their potential hosts was structured along an ecological (mesoclimatic) gradient, so most parasitoids were recorded from margins while stenotopic (narrow habitat adaptation) moths were mostly distributed near the centre of the bog habitat. The total number of confirmed Irish species of Lepidoptera now stands at 1480. Since its publication, many new discoveries have been made and are reported here. In addition, several deletions have been made. A concise and updated checklist is provided. The following abbreviations are used in the text: BM(NH) – The Natural History Museum, London; NMINH – National Museum of Ireland, Natural History, Dublin. The total number of confirmed Irish species now stands at 1480, an addition of 68 since Bond et al. (2006). Taxonomic arrangement As a result of recent systematic research, it has been necessary to replace the arrangement familiar to British and Irish Lepidopterists by the Fauna Europaea [FE] system used by Karsholt 60 Bulletin of the Irish Biogeographical Society No. 36 (2012) and Razowski, which is widely used in continental Europe. -

Essential oils (EOs), extracted from aromatic plants, are interesting natural products and represent an important part of the traditional pharmacopeia. The use of some EOs as alternative antimicrobial and pharmaceutical agents has attracted considerable interest recently. Most of the EOs and their single constituents have been reported to inhibit several phytopathogens, human pathogens, and insects as well as their effective uses in food and pharmaceutical industries. The current review discussed the chemical composition and bioactivity of some important EOs extracted from some Mediterranean plants and their principal bioactive single constituents. Information has been furnished on the mechanisms, mode of actions, and factors affecting the bioactivity of some single constituents from different Mediterranean plant EOs. The current review gives an insight into some common plant EOs belonging to Lamiaceae, Apiaceae, Rutaceae, and Verbenaceae families commonly growing in Mediterranean region. -

Butterfly Conservation Regional Action Plan For Anglia (Cambridgeshire, Essex, Suffolk & Norfolk) This action plan was produced in response to the Action for Butterflies project funded by WWF, EN, SNH and CCW This regional project has been supported by Action for Biodiversity Cambridgeshire and Essex Branch Suffolk branch BC Norfolk branch BC Acknowledgements The Cambridgeshire and Essex branch, Norfolk branch and Suffolk branch constitute Butterfly Conservation’s Anglia region. This regional plan has been compiled from individual branch plans which are initially drawn up from 1997-1999. As the majority of the information included in this action plan has been directly lifted from these original plans, credit for this material should go to the authors of these reports. They were John Dawson (Cambridgeshire & Essex Plan, 1997), James Mann and Tony Prichard (Suffolk Plan, 1998), and Jane Harris (Norfolk Plan, 1999). Abstract Scrobipalpa reiprichi Povolny, 1984, recently described from Czechoslovakia, is newly recorded from a site in Norway with similar ecological characteristics to the type-locality. The moth is redescribed, and illustrations are given of the male and female genitalia and habitat. Résumé Scrobipalpa reiprichi Povolny, 1984, décrit récemment de Tchécoslovaquie, a été également découvert en Norvège, dans un endroit qui présente les mêmes caracté- ristiques écologiques que la localité type. Le papillon est redécrit, avec figures des genitalia mâle et femelle et photos du biotope. Zusammenfassung Scrobipalpa reiprichi Povolny, 1984, kürzlich beschrieben aus der Tschekoslowa- kei, ist auch in Norwegen entdeckt worden, und zwar an einem Ort mit ähnlichen ökologischen Merkmalen wie der Typus-Fundort. Die Art wird neu beschrieben, mit Abbildungen der männlichen und weiblichen Genitalien und Photos vom Biotop. -

Norfolk Moth Survey c/o Natural History Dept., Castle Museum, Norwich, NR1 3JU Newsletter No.90 November 2016 INTRODUCTION With the flurry of activity through the latter part of the summer, it is easy to forget how cool, wet and frustrating the early part of the season often was. Opinion generally seems to suggest that, while the range of species seen was much to be expected, actual numbers of moths were down on the whole. However, one event during that early period brought the subject of moths to the attention of the media, both locally and nationally. This was the great invasion of Diamond- backed moths, Plutella xylostella, that took place at the very end of May and the first days of June. It would be no exaggeration to say that literally millions of these tiny moths arrived on these shores, with at least one commentator describing it as “...a plague of biblical proportion”. Several of us found ourselves answering queries and calls from a variety of sources in connection with this influx. Despite the dire warnings proffered by some sections of the media - and others, our cabbages weren’t totally obliterated as a result. In fact, the expected boost in numbers resulting from these original invaders breeding here, just didn’t seem to happen. In what might have otherwise been a distinctly average season, it is good to be able to report that twelve new species have been added to the Norfolk list this year. Amazingly, seven of these have been adventives, including one species new for the UK. -

E-mail: [email protected] Introduction The first data on Lithuanian Lepidoptera were published by Carl Eduard von Eichwald (1795–1876) who was a professor of Vilnius University. In his work, Zologia specialis, 1830, he mentioned some moth species, including five species of Microlepidoptera (Ivinskis, 2003). Through the 1970’ and 1980’ numerous articles dealing with Lithuanian Microlepidoptera were published by Povilas Ivinskis, Vladimir Ivanovich Piskunov, Mikhail Kozlov, Saulius Pakalniškis, Giedrius Švitra and Ričardas Kazlauskas (Aarvik at al., 2017). More important works have been published by Povilas Ivinskis (1993, 2004). The Lepidoptera in Lithuania are not fully investigated. The last catalogue of Lithuanian Lepidoptera includes 2423 species (Aarvik et al., 2017). This article present new data on 63 rare and very rare species of moths (Lepidoptera) registered in 14 administrative districts and municipalities of Lithuania. Material and Methods The material was collected in different parts of Lithuania: in Druskininkai municipalities, Akmenė, Ignalina, Jonava, Jurbarkas, Kaišiadorys, Kaunas, Panevėžys, Šakiai, Šiauliai, Širvintos, Švenčionys, Tauragė and Varėna administrative districts. Lepidoptera were collected using an entomological net and light trapping at night (160W–500W DRL type bulb lamps were used). The major part of material was collected by the authors of this report Brigita Paulavičiūtė (B.P.) and Vytautas Inokaitis (V.I.). The rest species were collected by Vitalijus Bačianskas (V.Ba.), Vaida Paznekaitė (V.P.) and Romas Ferenca (R.F.). -
