This course will attempt to answer those questions through a chronological AS.450.082. MLA Capstone: Portfolio. and thematic investigation of some of the most influential artworks, The MLA Portfolio is a zero-credit Capstone option. Students who select movements, and theories of the past 60 years. Beginning with a close the Portfolio option will take 10 courses in the program (one core course look at mid-century modernism, we will move into a consideration of Pop, and 9 electives), and register for the zero-credit portfolio in their final Minimalism, conceptual art, land art, performance art, postmodernism, semester. The portfolio will be completed within the same semester as AIDS activism, and relational aesthetics. Along the way, we will also the 10th course. The portfolio consists of a sampling of the best papers consider the relevance of feminist and phenomenological theory and of and projects written over the course of the student's graduate career, institutional critique and globalization; at the same time, we will explore and it is designed to highlight the intellectual points of convergence in ways in which art of our own time constitutes both an extension of, and each student's course of study, presenting the student's reflections on reaction against, some of the historical ideas we encounter. Klaus Mann's Mephisto: A Secret Rivalry Abstract Critics of the 1960s and 1970s have focused their attention on Klaus Mann's use of his former brother-in- law, Gustaf Gründgens, as the model for the hero of his controversial novel, Mephisto, while more recent critics have emphasized its significance as a work of anti-Fascist literature. This essay seeks to resolve some of the apparent contradictions in Klaus Mann's motivation for writing Mephisto by viewing the novel primarily in the context of his life and career. Although Mephisto is the only political satire that Klaus Mann wrote, it is consistent with his life-long tendency to use autobiographical material as the basis for much of his plot and characterization. Mann transformed his ambivalent feelings about Gründgens, which long antedated the writing of Mephisto, into a unique work of fiction which simultaneously expresses his indignation over the moral bankruptcy of the Third Reich and reveals his envy of Gründgens's career successes. -

Band IV Klaus Reinhold Chronik Arnstadt 704 - 2004 1300 Jahre Arnstadt 2. erweiterte und verbesserte Auflage Teil 4 (Fortsetzung) Hebamme Anna Kessel (Weiße 50) verhalf am 26.10.1942 dem viertausendstem Kind in ihrer langjährigen beruflichen Laufbahn zum Leben. 650 „ausgebombte“ Frauen und Kinder aus Düsseldorf trafen am 27.10.1942 mit einem Son- derzug in Arnstadt ein. Diamantene Hochzeit feierte am 28.10.1942 das Ehepaar Richard Zeitsch (86) und seine Ehefrau Hermine geb. Hendrich (81), Untergasse 2. In der Nacht vom Sonntag, dem 1. zum 2.11.1942, wurden die Uhren (um 3.00 Uhr auf 2.00 Uhr) um eine Stunde zurückgestellt. Damit war die Sommerzeit zu Ende und es galt wieder Normalzeit. Zum ersten Mal fand am 14.11.1942 in Arnstadt eine Hochzeit nach dem Tode statt. Die Näherin Silva Waltraud Gertrud Herzer heiratete ihren am 9.8.1941 gefallenen Verlobten, den Obergefreiten Artur Erich Hans Schubert mit dem sie ein Töchterchen namens Jutta (7 30.8.1939 in Arnstadt) hatte. Die Heirat erfolgte mit Wirkung des Tages vor dem Tode, also 8.8.1941. Die Tochter wurde „durch diese Eheschließung legitimiert“. 1943 Der Sturm 8143 des NS-Fliegerkorps baute Anfang 1943 auf dem Fluggelände Weinberg bei Arnstadt eine Segelflugzeughalle im Werte von 3500 RM. Die Stadt gewährte einen Zuschuß von 1000 RM und trat dem NS-Fliegerkorps als Fördermitglied mit einem Jahres- beitrag von 100,00 RM bei. Der fast 18-jährige Schüler Joachim Taubert (7 24.2.1925 in Arnstadt) wurde am 6.1.1943, 9.00 Uhr, in der Wohnung seiner Mutter, der Witwe Gertrud Elisabeth Taubert geb. -

Abstract The following thesis looks at the subject of communist-oriented opposition in the GDR. More specifically, it considers how this phenomenon has been reconstructed in the state-mandated memory landscape of the Federal Republic of Germany since unification in 1990. It does so by presenting three case studies of particular representative value. The first looks at the former member of the Politbüro Paul Merker and how his entanglement in questions surrounding antifascism and antisemitism in the 1950s has become a significant trope in narratives of national (de-)legitimisation since 1990. The second delves into the phenomenon of the dissident through the aperture of prominent singer-songwriter, Wolf Biermann, who was famously exiled in 1976. -
