The Chancery was inaugurated by His Grace Archbishop Angelo Becciu, the substitute for General Affairs of the Holy See. Malaysia established the Embassy of Malaysia to the Holy See on 21 March 2016 and inaugurated its Chancery on 9 May 2017. The Inauguration of both the Embassies of Malaysia in Rome and the Embassy of Vatican in Kuala Lumpur in 2017 signifies greater commitment of both countries to work together in areas of mutual interests, particularly inter-religious dialogue and education. The inauguration of the Vatican Embassy (Nunciature) was attended by His Grace Archbishop Angelo Becciu who represented Pope Francis and the Honourable Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dato’ Sri Reezal Merican Naina Merican. Enhancing cooperation in education with the Missionary of Saint Gabriel His Excellency Tan Sri Bernard Giluk Dompok met with Brother Georges Le Vern, Secretary General of the Brothers of Saint Gabriel in Rome on 8 November 2017. Both sides exchanged information pertaining to the importance of education, particularly to the communities in the rural areas. They also deliberated on strategies to enhance education to the rural areas in the Asian and African region. The education Missionary of Saint Gabriel has contributed immensely to the development of education in East Malaysia. Their contribution is still on-going at present in Malaysia with the Monfort Youth Training Centre in Malacca and Sabah, and the Monfort Boys Town in Shah Alam, Selangor. The lunch was attended by all Home Based Staff of both the Embassies of Malaysia to Italy and the Holy See, Prelates from The Holy See, representative from the Mill Hill and Jesuit Missionaries, and the Embassy’s counterpart from the Pontifical Council of Interreligious Dialogue. The Deepavali celebration was a joyous event celebrated in the spirit of 1 Malaysia. The Christmas gathering was held with the Malaysian priests, nuns, seminarians and lay community residing in Rome and Vatican City. Other invitees to the lunch include The Honourable Dato’ Sri Reezal Merican Naina Merican, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia and his spouse, family members of staff at the Embassy of Malaysia to Italy, Fr. Markus Solo from the Pontifical Council of Interreligious Dialogue, Vatican City and Fr. Josef Schmolzer, Procurator General of the Mill Hill Missionaries. His Excellency Tan Sri Bernard Giluk Dompok, Ambassador of Malaysia to The Holy See joined the Malaysian priests and nuns gathering on 14 October 2017 at the Collegio of Saint Bernardo in Rome. The gathering was held twice a year. To-date, there were approximately 16 Malaysian priests, nuns and lay community residing in Rome. During the gathering, His Excellency Tan Sri Bernard took the opportunity to update the priests, nuns and lay community on the various initiatives undertaken by the Embassy of Malaysia to The Holy See since its establishment on 21 March 2016. The gathering also provides the platform for greater engagements between the Embassy officials and Malaysians residing in Rome and Vatican City.     Tawaran Kerja Sama Politik Ditolak Oposisi, Masa Depan PM Muhyiddin Makin Suram Realitarakyat.com – Para pemimpin partai oposisi di Malaysia menolak tawaran kerja sama politik dari PM Muhyiddin Yassin dan menuntutnya segera mundur. Sebelumnya pada Jumat (13/8) Muhyiddin secara terbuka mengakui ia tak memiliki suara mayoritas di Parlemen dan meminta dukungan dalam voting mosi tidak percaya pada September nanti. Sebagai imbal balik, Muhyiddin menjanjikan tujuh tawaran kepada para pemimpin partai oposisi. Di antara tujuh penawaran tersebut adalah pembatasan masa jabatan Perdana Menteri menjadi maksimal dua periode, dengan satu periode lima tahun, pengajuan RUU Anti Lompat Partai, serta mengurangi batasan usia pemilih dari semula 21 tahun menjadi 21 tahun. Hari ini partai oposisi ramai-ramai menolak tawaran tersebut, salah satunya Pakatan Harapan. “Ini adalah kali pertama dalam sejarah Malaysia seorang Perdana Menteri mengakui ia telah kehilangan suara mayoritas, tapi terus mencari dukungan,” menurut keterangan resmi Pakatan Harapan. “Pakatan Harapan telah mengambil sikap untuk menolak keras semua tawaran tidak tulus dari Tan Sri Muhyiddin yang seharusnya dilakukan lebih awal dan bukan pada akhir kehidupan politiknya.” Penolakan juga disampaikan oleh Presiden UMNO Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi dan Presiden Pejuang Tanah Air, Mukhriz Mahathir. “UMNO tidak bisa mempertimbangkan tawaran dari seseorang yang tidak lagi memiliki legitimasi,” kata Ahmad Zahid dalam keterangan resmi. Ahmad juga menyarankan masyarakat untuk tetap tenang sampai Yang di-Pertuan Agong melakukan tanggung jawab konstitusionalnya berdasarkan Pasal 40 (2) untuk mengangkat perdana menteri baru dari antara anggota DPR.     Najib taps ex-Borneo CJ as Sabah RCI head MalaysiaKini.com Aug 11, 2012 Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak announced today that the royal commission of inquiry (RCI) into the illegal immigrant problem in Sabah will be headed by former chief judge of Sabah and Sarawak Steve Shim. The other commission members are former Universiti Malaysia Sabah vice-chancellor Kamaruzaman Ampon, former Sabah attorney-general Herman Luping, former Sabah state secretary KY Mustafa and former Kuala Lumpur police chief Hendry Chin. According to Kota Belud MP Abdul Rahman Dahan, Najib made this announcement at a meeting with local BN leaders in Sabah this afternoon. "Najib said, 'I listened to the wishes of the people through BN leaders. That is why I created the RCI. All Sabah BN leaders want it'," Abdul Rahman said in a Twitter posting. Shim was in May selected to be a member of the government-commissioned panel to investigate the Bersih 3.0 protest headed by former inspector-general of police Hanif Omar but abruptly rejected the appointment, citing health reasons. He was also a member of the five-person royal commission on the Lingam tape, chaired by former Chief Judge of Malaya Haidar Mohamed Noor. The RCI announced today will be tasked to investigate the number of foreigners granted citizenship in the East Malaysian state and whether this had been done in accordance with the law. If there were indeed illegal granting of citizenship, the commission will investigate whether such individuals have been registered in Sabah's electoral roll, thereby allowing them to vote. It will also look into the rapid jump in Sabah population, which includes citizens and non- citizens, and its social impact on the state.

In a region that has been repeatedly plagued by political and economic instability, Malaysia is a robust, booming and stable market, helped by a thorough national political program. With careful management of the relevant mechanisms and methods, it has succeeded in achieving a balanced and diverse economy – just one of many factors that makes Malaysia a credible investment opportunity. Being a key economic player in the ASEAN region, Malaysia is a contributing force in the evolution of local, regional and global trade, and its successes are built on strong macro-economic foundations. A key element in understanding Malaysia’s economic development is its latest five-year plan, which aims to elevate the country to the ranks of a high income or “developed” nation. A steadily established and maintained trade surplus, the beginnings of which can be traced back to the Asian economic crisis of the late 1990s, also plays a part in buoying the fortunes of one of the more resilient Southeast Asian economies. Due to the reasons outlined above, prospects for future growth remain strong in Malaysia under the current leadership, despite China’s economic slowdown and falling oil prices. However, dovetailed with the marked downward turn in investor confidence that was caused by the 1MDB saga, Malaysia suffered a significant depreciation in foreign exchange rates from which it now recovering.
