Scottish Cup 2011-12

Netball Scotland would firstly like to thank you for entering the 2011-12 Scottish Cup Competition.

You may not know it just yet, but there has never been a more exciting time for you and your club to be involved in Scottish netball. Not only should our younger girls be aspiring to follow in the footsteps of our very own Scottish Thistles (as they work tirelessly to climb the world rankings ladder) but should also be looking to our recently selected Under 21 National team for inspiration. The Under 21 squad will take to court in the summer of 2013 here on home soil, competing in the 2013 World Youth Championships being hosted in . What a fantastic ‘warm up’ for all of our netball fans out there to prepare themselves for the Commonwealth Games in 2014!! I am sure you will agree, it is all go – and we love it.

Not only are the next few years going to provide fantastic opportunities for our netballing stars, but also for our Coaches, Umpires, Match Officials, Volunteers and of course, our outstanding supporters. It is imperative that we, as Scottish netball enthusiasts, engage as many of the other netball fanatics out there, and work together to make the most of the upcoming opportunities to really cement Scotland’s position on the netball map.

Here at Netball Scotland we very much look forward to following your progress over the coming months as the Scottish Cup progresses. We also look forward to ending the season on another high as we did following last year’s hugely successful National Finals Day. Best of luck to all teams in your upcoming matches.

As ever, should there be any issues with the draw below or any problems with placing fixtures into your oh so busy diaries, please do not hesitate to give me a call on 0141 572 0114 or 07748771573. I can always be reached via email on [email protected]

Kindest regards,

Gillian Stewart (Netball Scotland - Membership and Competitions Development Officer)

Scottish Cup Rules 2011-12

1. The Scottish Cup competition is open exclusively to member clubs of Netball Scotland. All clubs entering into the Scottish Cup must be affiliated to Netball Scotland at the time of entry. Players may be added to a team’s pool at any given stage of the competition, but must be affiliated to Netball Scotland before taking to court.

2. Clubs may enter one or more teams.

3. The maximum number of entries is 32 teams. If the number of entrants exceeds 32 teams, clubs with more than one team entered may have their third and second teams removed from the draw to reduce the number of entrants to the maximum level. Entries that are sent in earlier receive priority in terms of second and third teams.

4. All players must be 16 years or over at 1st January 2011.

5. No player or umpire who is 12 or more weeks pregnant can participate in the competition due to safety reasons.

6. Duration of matches: 4 quarters of 15 minutes. Matches will also consist of 2 minutes at quarter and three-quarter time, and 3 minutes at half time.

7. Knock-out format : a) The game must be won outright by one team b) In the event of a draw at full-time an additional period of 5 minutes extra time will be played each way. c) If the game is a draw after extra-time, then a ‘golden goal’ period should be played to a two goal advantage to determine the winner.

8. All matches must be umpired by a qualified FENA ‘B’ umpire (or a higher grade).

9. Each team must supply an umpire for rounds 1, 2, quarter and semi-finals. Any team that does not supply an umpire will forfeit the match. You may use qualified umpires from the team player pool. A maximum of 12 players are allowed to compete in each match and all player names should be recorded on a match score sheet.

10. Players may only play for one team throughout the competition i.e. where a club enters more than one team, a player who has played for a team cannot then play for another team in the event. A player that moves clubs mid-season may not play in later rounds of the competition for a different team.

11. Netball Scotland’s Scottish Cup convenor (Gillian Stewart, Membership and Competitions Development Officer) will conduct the draw for the 1st round, 2nd round, quarter finals and semi-finals and the results of each will be posted on the Netball Scotland website as soon as possible following return to the office.

12. Teams must provide their own first aid (for all) and child protection care (for those 18 and under).

7

13. An official match record sheet (please see page 9) must be signed by both team captains and should be submitted after each game. The home team (or first named team) is responsible for returning this to Netball Scotland within 3 days of the match being played Please return to Gillian Stewart, Suite 296, Central Chambers, 93 Hope Street, Glasgow, G2 6LD – alternatively these can be emailed to [email protected] or faxed to 0141 248 6566.

14. The aim of the competition is to play the matches, not concede if away venue is difficult. All teams are expected to make best efforts to play the games. In the earlier rounds home teams will book facilities. Home teams must give 3 options of dates and times to play the game and then discuss with the opposition 2 further options. If none of these are accepted, then the home team is given a bye. Should there be any issues with suitable date and time to play the fixture, you should contact Gillian Stewart at Netball Scotland on 0141 572 0114 or 07748771573.
