Consolidado como el informe de referencia de análisis y descripción del negocio de los contenidos digitales en España, el informe presenta de forma exhaus- tiva los principales indicadores que permiten seguir la evolución de los diversos sectores que conforman el universo digital. Siguiendo con la metodología de análisis comenzada en 2008, el informe presenta tan- to datos primarios relacionados con las ventas de dispositivos de reproducción de con- tenidos, recogidos para AMETIC por la empresa especializada GFK, como información de fuentes secundarias representativas de cada sector: IFPI, Promusicae, APM, ADESE, CMT, FGEE, UVE, INE, Infoadex, PricewaterhouseCoopers, Screen Digest o el Ministerio de Cultura. Como viene siendo tradicional, el informe realiza un análisis en profundidad de los nue- vos modelos de negocio en el entorno online, presentando las barreras y oportunidades de desarrollo para cada uno de ellos, así como sus perspectivas de futuro en el mercado nacional español. Este análisis de los nuevos modelos se complementa con la presen- tación de las tendencias que van a marcar el devenir futuro de cada uno de los sectores estudiados. Este año, el informe incorpora un nuevo capítulo dedicado al estudio de un sector en plena expansión como es el de las aplicaciones para dispositivos móviles. El in- cesante incremento de la utilización de nuevos dispositivos móviles (smartphones y ta- blets), cada vez más potentes y con mejores prestaciones, está impulsando una nueva industria en torno a las aplicaciones software para estos dispositivos. Aunque se trata de una industria muy reciente de la que apenas existe información económica, el informe analiza los modelos de negocio que se están lanzando, siendo pionero en nuestro país en el estudio de este nuevo fenómeno. En la pasada edición del informe, se dedicó un capítulo a describir la situación de la protección de la propiedad intelectual en nuestro país, con un detallado análisis de la legislación vigente y de los mecanismos existentes para hacer efectiva esta protección. Tras la aprobación, en 2011, de la Ley de Economía Sostenible, que incluye nuevas me- didas de protección de la propiedad intelectual, el debate ha girado hacia la gestión de los derechos de propiedad intelectual. Por este motivo el informe incluye un nuevo capítulo centrado en la descripción de los mecanismos de gestión utilizados en nuestro país, así como las iniciativas a nivel europeo para la adaptación de esta gestión, con la finalidad de crear un verdadero mercado único europeo digital. 2010 parece marcar el inicio de la recuperación de la industria de contenidos digitales, 4 CONTENIDOS DIGITALES tras un año, 2009, en el que la crisis económica provocó la mayor caída del sector de los últimos años. Gran parte de los sectores han recuperado los números negros, ayudados en gran medida por la recuperación del consumo y por el impulso en las ventas de los nuevos dispositivos de reproducción. La puesta en marcha por parte del Ministerio de Industria, Turismo y Comercio, a mediados de 2011, del Plan de Impulso de la Industria de Contenidos, propuesto en 2010 por AMETIC, sin duda contribuirá a acelerar la recu- peración del sector en un futuro inmediato. El comportamiento de los diversos sectores que forman parte de la industria de conteni- dos ha sido muy dispar. En el mercado de la música se ha producido la mayor caída de la historia en el ámbito físico, mientras que nuevos modelos como el streaming financiado con publicidad y las suscripciones comienzan a reportar relevantes ingresos. El cine ha experimentado un ligero descenso, motivado por la crisis del sector cinematográfico es- pañol. En el ámbito del vídeo, la buena noticia ha venido de la mano de la alta definición, cuyas ventas han conseguido frenar los constantes descensos de los últimos años. Los modelos tradicionales en el sector de videojuegos continúan inmersos en la espi- ral descendente iniciada en 2009. Aunque han conseguido moderar las pérdidas, tanto la venta de juegos para PC como la venta de videoconsolas lastraron los resultados en 2010. En el ámbito online las noticias son más alentadoras, con importantes crecimien- tos en juegos para dispositivos móviles y juego en la Red. El sector televisivo completó en 2010 la transición a la TDT y vio una tímida recupera- ción de la inversión publicitaria, que ha repercutido principalmente en los agentes pri- vados, tras la desaparición de la publicidad en RTVE. El hecho más destacado, junto con el aumento de los ingresos por suscripciones a servicios de televisión de pago, ha sido el espectacular incremento de las ventas de televisores, impulsada por la nueva tecnología LED y por eventos televisivos de especial interés, como el Mundial de Fútbol de Sudáfrica.

The impact of social media on preferential voting Abstract Accounts of the state of contemporary democracies often focus on parties and partisan representation. It has been noted by several authors that parties are in a dire state. Parties are said to withdraw themselves from society and citizens in turn are withdrawing themselves from parties. However, two trends are rarely taken into account, namely (1) an increasing personalization of electoral systems and (2) the spread of cheap and easy- to-use social media which allow politicians to build personal ties with citizens. When considering these two trends, the process of ‘mutual withdrawal’ may be less problematic. Our research seeks to examine whether or not candidates make use of social media during election campaigns to reach out to citizens and whether citizens in turn connect to politicians. Afterwards it examines whether social media make a difference and yield a preference vote bonus. Four types of effects are outlined, namely a direct effect of the number of followers a candidate has; an interaction effect whereby a higher number of followers only yields more votes when the candidate actively uses the social media; an indirect effect whereby social media first lead to more coverage in traditional media and lastly the absence of any effect.

Existing theory proposes that the affordances of the Internet can lead people to develop overly positive impressions of those they meet online, which could prove advantageous for relationships initiated on online dating sites. However, empirical evidence suggests that while such hyperpersonal impressions can intensify the development of mediated relationships, they can also result in disillusionment if the first date fails to meet both partners’ expectations. Accordingly, this dissertation set out to uncover the communicative factors responsible for more or less successful transitions offline. Drawing from the computer- mediated communication (CMC) and personal relationships literatures, the present study introduced a conceptual model of relationship success in online dating and tested it using a longitudinal survey design. Participants (N = 186) were surveyed before and after their first date with someone they met on an online dating site or mobile dating app. As part of the survey, they also supplied the emails they had sent to their partner so their communication could be observed.

    Comments of the Center for Democracy & Technology Regarding Agency Information Collection Activities: Arrival and Departure Record (Forms I-94 and I-94W) and Electronic System for Travel Authorization 19 August 2016 The Center for Democracy & Technology appreciates the opportunity to provide comments to the Department of Homeland Security on its proposal to begin requesting disclosure of social media identifiers and other online account information from Visa Waiver Program applicants. DHS proposes to ask foreign visitors applying for a waiver of visa requirements to provide “information associated with [their] online presence,” including the “provider/platform” and “social media identifier” used by the applicant. While the details of this proposed information collection are unclear, DHS’s Notice of Collection Activities states that the solicited online identity information “will enhance the existing investigative process” and “provide DHS greater clarity and visibility to possible nefarious activity and connections” of visitors to the United States.1 CDT is deeply concerned that this proposal would invade the privacy and chill the freedom of expression of visitors to the United States and United States citizens. Under the proposed changes, visitors to the U.S. who seek admittance through the Electronic System of Travel Authorization (ESTA), or complete Form I-94W, will be subject to unspecified review and monitoring of their public online activity by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials.     Comment Submitted by David Crawley Comment View document: The notion that my social media identifier should have anything to do with entering the country is a shockingly Nazi like rule. The only thing that this could facilitate anyway is trial by association - something that is known to ensnare innocent people, and not work. What is more this type of thing is repugnant to a free society. The fact that it is optional doesn't help - as we know that this "optional" thing will soon become not-optional. If your intent was to keep it optional - why even bother? Most importantly the rules that we adopt will tend to get adopted by other countries and frankly I don't trust China, India, Turkey or even France all countries that I regularly travel to from the US with this information. We instead should be a beacon for freedom - and we fail in our duty when we try this sort of thing. Asking for social media identifier should not be allowed here or anywhere. Comment Submitted by David Cain Comment View document: I am firmly OPPOSED to the inclusion of a request - even a voluntary one - for social media profiles on the I-94 form. The government should NOT be allowed to dip into users' social media activity, absent probable cause to suspect a crime has been committed. Bad actors are not likely to honor the request. Honest citizens are likely to fill it in out of inertia. This means that the pool of data that is built and retained will serve as a fishing pond for a government looking to control and exploit regular citizens.
