  • Bikes, Leather and Noise: Guitar Wolf, Atomic Suplex and Black Mekon - Live at the Dome, Tufnell Park
Guitar Wolf Oct 03, 2016 09:27 BST Bikes, Leather and Noise: Guitar Wolf, Atomic Suplex and Black Mekon - Live at the Dome, Tufnell Park Guitar Wolf are a total rock'n'roll experience. Self styled as The World's Greatest Jet Rock'n'Roll Band they take rock'n'roll to it's logical conclusion and beyond. Jet Rock'n'Roll is Guitar Wolf's unique combination of extreme volume, heavy distortion and screaming. A Guitar Wolf show is a complete energy overload that is akin to being in the blast zone of a sonic atom bomb explosion. Taking their influence from 50's rock'n'roll, The Ramones, Eddie Cochrane, Johnny Thunders, Joan Jett and Link Wray, the 'Wolf then mix it up into a maelstrom of noise. Watch video on YouTube here On record Guitar Wolf inject their live energy into the recording process by never recording anything below red and on one occasion recording an entire album without having ever played any of the songs before-to ensure the sound was raw enough! In fact, Guitar Wolf's sixth record, Jet Generation proves if you rock hard enough you can break the laws of physics: Jet Generation is the loudest CD ever released in history of recording music. There is no way to accurately describe London's own Atomic Suplex, though many have tried… “Rock and Roll mayhem”… “loud, raucous, trashy rock and roll”. The UK quartet has been stirring up sonic trouble for a number of years now, earning increasing acclaim with every release and a reputation as one ferociously exciting and uncompromising band live.

  • Themonsters 2016 Low.Pdf
THE MONSTERS, 30 Years of Trash (1986 - 2016) „The Monsters“ were formed in 1986 in small-town Bern, capital of Switzerland. Their sound is a fuzzedout mix between 60ies garage punk, wild teenage trash rockabilly and primitive rock‘n‘roll. Its 187% no MTV and top 100 shit! It is simple One-Riff-Trash-Rock. The actual lineup is guitar, bass and the so-called clonedrum: means 2 drummers with only 1 1/2 drums, hitting the same bassdrum from each side. Besides the countless shows in Switzerland „The Monsters“ played extensive tours through Europe including Germany, France, Holland, Belgium, Italy, Austria, England, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Russia and Spain. They toured Argentina, Brasil, Japan, USA and Mexico. Needless to say „The Monsters“ are a kickass live band who will burn every stage down. They were on the same bill with acts like Guitar Wolf, The Monks, The Sonics and many more. Over the years „The Monsters“ recorded 7 albums. Several Singles and EP‘s and apeared on countless compilations. The record „Youth Against Nature“ was recored in the now famous Toe Rag Studios (London) by Liam Watson. „I See Dead People“ came with a 1000-piece puzzle, booklet, sticker and button and was allready sold out during the tour. „Garage Punk Vol. 1“ is a double LP with 20 years of trash. „Pop Up Yours“ is the newest full-length album and „Jungle Noise“ a re-issue. A new record is due to November 2016. The Monsters appear on Voodoorhythm Records, Switzerland. The label is famous for it‘s taste and style, as it is for the beautiful artwork.

  • Representations of Chinese Rock Bands”
Representations of Chinese Rock An Analysis of Contemporary Reviews of Chinese Rock- Groups Magnus Forseth Masteroppgave ved Instituttet for Kulturstudier og Orientalske Språk/Det Humanistiske Fakultet UNIVERSITETET I OSLO 23.11.2011 II Representations of Chinese Rock An Analysis of Contemporary Reviews of Chinese Rock-Groups III © Magnus Forseth 2011 Representations of Chinese Rock Magnus Forseth http://www.duo.uio.no/ Trykk: Reprosentralen, Universitetet i Oslo IV Summary In this paper I will try to address tendencies of Orientalist representation found in certain examples of Western English-written album-reviews. When reviewing Chinese bands some music-critics have reduced contemporary Chinese rock-bands to merely being copies of Western groups. (Both good and bad) Of which some groups only seem to deserve attention because they were part of a Western protagonist’s pop-cultural “discovery” - a discovery by the West for the West. Often the protagonist (journalist, writer or compiler) is highlighted as an outstanding individual because he or she found something “rare” to present to a Western audience. I will argue that representations such as these reinvigorate Orientalism, as Edward Said defines the term. In addition, Chinese bands have sometimes been presented as under- developed; not only musically - as mere copyists - but also culturally; as members of a culturally “under-developed” state. In that way certain Western music-journalists contribute to create a discourse which furthers the conceived cultural-hegemony of the “West” over the “East.” My analysis of album-reviews published on the Internet will also try to show a tendency among certain music-journalists to compare Chinese bands solely on the basis of Western rock-tradition and Western bands.
