IMPROVEMENTS ON CAMPUS • Thanks to the generous support of Cindy and David Hoag, the chapel was renovated over Christmas break to remove the pews, install new flooring and use more than 500 chairs for this important worship space. • Judson consolidated the Counseling Center and Wellness Center in a newly renovated space to create the University Wellness Center. This renovation was sponsored by Cindy and David Hoag. Cindy is a trustee of Judson University and her father, Lynn Wheaton, worked for the university in Advancement.

NEW BOWLING COACH: ASTRID VALIENTE Judson’s Athletic Department announced the addition of a university men’s and women’s bowling program in October 2015, and Astrid Valiente is the new coach. Valiente is a nationally and internationally recognized bowler. She graduated from the University of Pikeville (Ky.) magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications. While there, she won the NAIA National Championship in 2011-2012 and her team was the Intercollegiate Team Championships Runners-up from 2012-2014. As a part of the Puerto Rico National team, she won Puerto Rican Bowler of the Year in 2010. She was also a Tournament of Americas medalist in 2010, Cambowl Mayor medalist in 2010, and a CONCECABOL (Central and Caribbean Bowling Confederation) medalist in 2011.

NEW LACROSSE COACH In November 2015, Judson Athletic Department reinstated its men’s lacrosse. Leading the team is new coach Jared Nies. Nies played collegiate lacrosse for four years at Grantham, Pennsylvania’s Messiah , a NCAA OFFICE OF DIVERSITY AND SPIRITUAL DEVELOPMENT Division III school. Briggs was named director of Institutional Research and Effectiveness at Judson University. Prior to this appointment, Chad was a research associate at the Center for & DEVELOPMENT Governmental Studies at University in DeKalb, Ill. He also spent 15 years in various roles as a researcher, research consultant and assessment coordinator at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale (SIUC) in Carbondale, Ill. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, and a master’s degree in Applied Experimental Psychology from SIUC. Combining the centers has allowed staff to better advocate for the needs of students as they deal with chronic and acute illnesses, along with mental health issues. Combining the offices is an asset as staff are able to recognize, provide for and coordinate the general physical and emotional health of the students in a timely matter to keep them on a path to wellness. CHAPEL THEME The Judson University experience for our students Throughout the year, Judson University focused its chapel services on the New Testament book of Colossians. The emphasis will be spiritually enriching and intellectually challenging was placed on SEEing how God has changed us, radically altering our identity, and has already made us like Him. as well as include co-curricular experiences that help our students become well-rounded people.

STRATEGY CREATED FOR CLUBS Natalie Senatore, Judson’s director of Student Life, designed both a “Club” and “Special Interest Group” designation to address the needs of student organizations. Clubs can become funded and have higher requirements for involvement in JSO and campus life. Special interest groups can organize around topics or areas of interest and passion. Natalie also designed manuals for each type of grouping and implemented a new club application process, which was trialed over fall 2015. She has also streamlined the JSO campus event planning with club events as well as gave additional resources to small student organizations within the larger campus culture.

INTRAMURALS Judson University’s Intramurals Program offered volleyball and soccer in the fall. In the spring, basketball was offered for nine weeks, indoor dodgeball for four weeks and outdoor kickball for four weeks. More than 258 students took part in 31 teams as part of intramurals.

Judson University welcomes Hasi Smith of Batavia, Ill., as the new vice president for University Information Systems. Hasi, a Judson alum, has spent the past two decades as director of Information Systems and Telecommunications at Delnor Health Care System in Geneva, Ill. During that time, she provided overall leadership on information technology strategy and led key initiatives, which drove quality and performance improvements within the health system.
