Summary: SB 1526 bill creates the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Matching Endowment Scholarship Program (program). The program will be administered by the Florida Department of Education (DOE) and will provide funds to participating Florida-based HBCUs for scholarships to enrolled students. Four HBCUs are located in Florida: Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, Bethune-Cookman University, Edward Waters College, and Florida Memorial University. The bill requires the Legislature to appropriate $2 million for the program, to be transferred to the Historically Black Colleges and Universities Matching Endowment Scholarship Trust Fund (trust fund). By June 30, 2019, each HBCU that wishes to participate in the program must contribute $500,000 in matching funds to the trust fund. The bill takes effect July 1, 2018. II. Present Situation: The Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended, defines an HBCU as: “… historically black college or university that was established prior to 1964, whose principal mission was, and is, the education of black Americans, and that is accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency or association determined by the Secretary [of Education] to be a reliable authority as to the quality of training offered or is, according to such an agency or association, making reasonable progress toward accreditation.”1 1 U.S. -

Summary: This report summarizes preliminary fall-term 2019 headcount and full-time equivalent (FTE) enrollments at degree-granting colleges and universities in Illinois. The report also summarizes enrollments in remedial/developmental courses during the 2018- 2019 academic year. Fall 2019 preliminary headcount enrollments at degree-granting institutions total 720,215 and preliminary FTE enrollments total 541,187. Brisk Rabbinical College did not respond to the survey and therefore was excluded from the report.
