Athletes named for January 2015 Australian Development Camp Congratulations to Callum Dalton who has been selected to take part in the January 2015 Australian Development Camp at the Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence in Canberra: 54 of the nation’s most talented young players will come together at the Basketball Australia National Centre of Excellence in Canberra in January for the 2015 BA Australian Development Camp. Gold Coast C i t y Regional Basketball Association Issue 52 October 2014 A vital component in the identification and development of future Australian Basketball stars, the Australian Development Camp allows Basketball Australia to see some of the country’s top young prospects exposed to elite-level development programs for the first time. The camp will see both our wheelchair and able-bodied athletes continue to develop the necessary skills for international competition, with the ultimate goal of national team selection. Through the years, some of Australia’s biggest stars have been uncovered at the ADC, including Jayco Opals stars Lauren Jackson, Penny Taylor, Jenni Screen and, more recently, rising star Stephanie Talbot. Airbnb Boomers stars Patty Mills, Andrew Bogut, Brad Newley and Dante Exum also got their break through the ADC program. The summer 2015 edition of the ADC will take place over five days from 19-23 January and will be run by Boomers Head Coach Andrej Lemanis, Opals Head Coach Brendan Joyce and Rollers Head Coach Ben Ettridge. Lemanis, Joyce and Ettridge will be supported by National Shooting Coach and Talent Identification Manager Brad Davidson, BA Centre of Excellence Coaches and a selection of coaches from across Australia. Gold Coast C i t y Regional Basketball Association Issue 52 October 2014 Australian 18yrs and Under Schoolboys Team Congratulations to Tyler Kelly from Hillcrest Christian College for being selected into the Australian 18yrs and under School boys Team for 2015. Tyler was selected from the Secondary Schools National tournament held in Townsville last month. The team will travel to the USA to play games against US High Schools in Texas and North Carolina. This is a tremendous opportunity for Tyler and one that comes with a significant cost. Gold Coast C i t y Regional Basketball Association Issue 52 October 2014 Gold Coast Basketball has introduced a Zero Tolerance Policy in regard to poor spectator behaviour at junior competition games. This policy is not aimed at stifling or diminishing healthy supportive cheering or the ability of all spectators and parents to enjoy the spectacle of junior sport but rather to ensure that the support is done in a manner deemed appropriate under the Codes on Conduct. On game days you will notice signage up for Conditions of Entry, the Zero Tolerance, Play By the Rules and Codes of Conduct which all attendees are to abide by. Each game day will have a Court Controller and Referee Supervisor who are easily identifiable in orange vests that are rostered on by Gold Coast Basketball and for each individual game there will be a Court Marshall who will be in a yellow vest. The Court Marshall will be a supporter of one of the teams as outlined by Gold Coast Basketball for that week. It is the role of all of these people to ensure a safe environment is maintained for all. Tryouts will be held in Melbourne in late November/early December - in order to be eligible to try out for the team players must have a minimum hearing loss of 55 decibels in their good ear.     National Coaches Conference 2011: Empowering 1 – 3 July 2011 thinking coaches Keynote Speaker Lindsay Gaze Lindsay Gaze played for Australia in three Olympics between 1960 and 1968 and coached the Australian basketball team at four Olympics between 1972 and 1984. He coached the Melbourne Tigers for 35 years, including 22 years in the National Basketball League (NBL), winning two championships in 1993 and 1997. He was the coach of the year in 1989, 1997 and 1999 and is second in the all-time number of coaching wins in that league. Lindsay Gaze is a member of the Australian Basketball Hall of Fame as both a player and coach and an associate member of the Sport Australia Hall of Fame. Gaze was selected for the Australian basketball team for the Rome Olympics which was the first Australian basketball team to travel overseas for the Olympics. He soon established himself as one of Australia's leading basketballers establishing an international Record and accolades reputation when he was selected as a member of the All-Star Five in Player in 1960, 1964 and the 1962 World Championships. Gaze would represent Australia at 1968 Olympics; the Rome Olympics, Tokyo Olympics and Mexico City Olympics. He developed a reputation as a fanatical trainer training two or three Coach of Australian team at times a week with his club and at home. Gaze also coached national 1972, 1976, 1980 and 1984 under 16 and under 18 squads during his playing career.
