Most analyses of public radio listening examine the performance of individual stations within this large mix, the contributions of specific national programs, or aggregate numbers for the system as a whole. This report takes a different approach. Through an extensive, multi-year study of 228 stations that generate about 80% of public radio’s audience, we review patterns of listening to groups of stations categorized by the formats that they present. We find that stations that pursue different format strategies – news, classical, jazz, AAA, and the principal combinations of these – have experienced significantly different patterns of audience growth in recent years and important differences in key audience behaviors such as loyalty and time spent listening. This quantitative study complements qualitative research that the Station Resource Group, in partnership with Public Radio Program Directors, and others have pursued on the values and benefits listeners perceive in different formats and format combinations. Key findings of The Public Radio Format Study include: • In a time of relentless news cycles and a near abandonment of news by many commercial stations, public radio’s news and information stations have seen a 55% increase in their average audience from Spring 1999 to Fall 2004. -

Community Radio Journalism in India
News by any other name: community radio journalism in India Bridget Backhaus* Griffith University, Australia Abstract Community radio journalism is a cultural resource that offers a voice to local communities and works to democratise media landscapes. Despite its indisputable value, community radio journalism in India faces a unique set of challenges: the foremost being that, officially, it does not exist. According to government policy, community radio stations are prohibited from broadcasting any news and current affairs content. The situation is further complicated by the presence of a development discourse underpinning the entire rationale for the sector. Instead of serving their listeners, community radio stations are beholden to a nebulous ‘development’ agenda. Under such circumstances, it is unsurprising that community radio journalism in India is relatively unexplored in the literature. This paper aims to address this gap by exploring how community radio practitioners in India source content and work around their restrictions in order to provide their listeners with relevant information and news. Keywords Community radio, India, news, journalism, development, social change Introduction Community radio is considered to be a voice for the voiceless and a stronghold of alternative views. Similarly, community radio journalism also has a tradition of democratising the media and acting as a cultural resource to provide communities with a local voice (Forde, Meadows & Foxwell-Norton, 2002). In India however, community radio journalism faces a unique set of challenges: the foremost of which being that, officially, it does not exist. Government policy prevents community radio stations in India from broadcasting any news or current affairs coverage. Employing the concept of community radio as rhizome as a theoretical framework, this article explores the fluid and contingent nature of community radio news and journalism in an environment where it officially does not exist. -

This study has a research of radio formats. The paper gives history, development and description of radio formats and how they changed the radio industry in the world. The data collected from historical and conceptual based researches done in USA radio market. In the Second part of the study there is a determination of the most used trendy radio formats for the USA and Turkish radio industry in last ten years (2003-2013). The study analyze the yearly radio ratings of Turkish radio industry for 2003 and 2013 and find out the most popular radio formats and how these changed radio in USA and Turkish radio industry in the last ten years. In the end of the study there is a correlation analysis for the shares of radio formats for the USA and Turkish radio market and a comparison of the popular format shares for the two countries. 1. Tekel, hereby submit my support for Mr. John Pavlica, Jr.'s Motion to Dismiss the Commission's Report and Order, as adopted October 10, 2002, which currently allows the preliminary use of In-Band, On-Channel (IBOC) digital audio broadcasting (also known by the marketing name "HD Radio") on the AM and FM radio bands. For over a decade, various attempts have been made at designing and implementing an IBOC system for the U.S. radio airwaves, but these attempts have been unsuccessful due to numerous flaws, and iBiquity's current IBOC system is no different. As currently designed and authorized, IBOC is an inherently flawed system that has the potential to cause great harm to the viability, effectiveness, and long-term success of existing analog AM and FM radio broadcasting services. IBOC is a proprietary system Currently, there is only one proponent of an IBOC system whose design has been submitted, studied, and approved -- that of iBiquity Digital Corporation (iBiquity). This is an unprecedented case of the use of a proprietary broadcasting system. Virtually all other enhancements to broadcasting services that have been introduced over the years have been borne out of competition between the designs of various proponents: AM Stereo, FM Stereo, color television, multi-channel television sound, and most recently, High Definition television (HDTV). Standard 8 Professional And Public Service Highlights Consistent with Loyola’s mission and commitment to service, the school is a vibrant entity for professional and public service. Since 1996, the Shawn M. Donnelley Center for Nonprofit Communications has been housed in the school and has helped more than 350 nonprofits in the New Orleans area. It is a world-class center equipped with a dozen laptop computers and excellent workspace to offer workshops to nonprofits in the area. For more than 35 years, the school has hosted the Tom Bell Silver Scribe High School Journalism Contest that brings about 50 high school students to campus each year. The school is home to the Lens, New Orleans’ award winning online investigative unit.
