Parish of the Holy Eucharist Holy Martyrs Sacred Heart St Gregory St Jude April 4, 2021 Easter Sunday Parish & Diocesan Happenings Pastor’s Pondering (pg 2) STAY CONNECTED THE GLORY OF EASTER

POTHE PUBLIC MASS SCHEDULE: Jesus Christ is Risen, Allelluia!! Our Lenten All Masses at Holy Martyrs will continue to be live streamed. Go to: journey has concluded, and now we are able pothe.org. and click on ‘Watch Mass Live” or go to pothe.org/facebook. to bask in the glory of the Easter Season. For the next several weeks, we listen to Weekend Mass Schedule: accounts of the resurrected Jesus comforting and challenging the disciples as they build the Holy Martyrs: Saturday at 4:00 pm Church. We will sing festive songs and create an Sunday at 8:30 am, 10:30 am, & 5:30 pm environment in our churches to reflect the Easter message of hope Sacred Heart: Saturday at 4:00 pm and salvation. Sadly, the Covid protocols will change some of our Sunday 8:00 am, 11:00 am options and the full effect our beloved rituals. Still we can rejoice in the understanding that life is qualitatively different because of our new life St. Gregory: Saturday at 4:00 pm, Sunday at 8:30 am in Christ. St. Jude: Sunday at 9:30 am At a recent meeting that I attended, someone commented that they Daily Mass Schedule: had “failed” this Lent. I suspected that this person was indicating Holy Martyrs: Mon, Tues 8:15 am & 5:30 pm that they had not embraced their Lenten discipline as fully as they Wed 7:30 am, Thur 5:30 pm may have desired, or the deeper insights that they sought had not materialized. In a way, though, one cannot fail Lent. If we do not keep St. Gregory: Friday at 8:00 am our discipline to fast from a specific food, make more time for prayer, Sacred Heart: Sat at 8:15 am or whatever else we may have yearned to happen in Lent, we learn from those experiences. Perhaps the lesson is that we are still trying Eucharistic Adoration: to “fit” God into our pre-existing schedule, instead of asking ifour Holy Martyrs Monday 8:45 am - 10:00 am schedule is God-friendly to begin with. Perhaps the lesson is that we overestimated our capacity to respond to God, and that we must make smaller initial steps. Finally, are we more invested in telling God about St. Gregory: Fridays at 8:30 am - 9:30 am ourselves or inviting God to speak to us? Confession: This Easter season we invite our parishioners to make a positive step St Gregory : Saturday 2:00 pm - 3:15 that flows from your experiences this Lent. If you became aware of sin Holy Martyrs: Mon 8:45 am - 10 am and did not make it to the Sacrament of Reconciliation, do so before Pentecost. If you have learned something using one of the parish’s Saturday 2:00 pm - 3:15 pm Lenten resources, consider joining a small group to share your insights Sacred Heart Saturday 8:45 am - 9:45 am and learn from others. If few things seemed to go the way that you anticipated, determine what you are grateful to God for and dedicate this Easter journey to being grateful. Use the three-fold charisms of Act of Contrition: O my God, I am heartily sorry for having offended prayer, fasting, and alms-giving and apply them more intentionally Thee, and I detest all my sins because of Thy just punishments, but during the coming weeks. After making the Consecration for St. Joseph most of all because they offend Thee, my God, who art all good and during Lent, I am resolving to being more intentional in my relationship deserving of all my love. I firmly resolve with the help of Thy grace to with him on the Wednesdays of Easter. Allow the Holy Spirit to guide sin no more and to avoid the near occasion of sin. Amen. you in all things!!

Spiritual Communion: My Jesus, I believe that You are present in Mass Intentions: As we celebrate Christ’s victory over the power of the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things and I desire to death, this Easter season is a privileged opportunity to pray for our receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You deceased loved ones. Most people, including ourselves, will die not sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You prepared to fully embrace the glory of God’s love. We cannot change as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never anything for ourselves after our death; we are dependent upon permit me to be separated from You. Amen. others for prayers, intercession, and applied spiritual works. Consider offering a Mass for your family, or a particular loved one, that the infinite blessings of the Sacrifice of the Mass may be applied to their Knights of Columbus purification. Please contact the office or use one of the forms in the entrances of our churches. Council #15791 After the elevator project is completed at Sacred Heart, we will be re-examining our daily Mass schedule. My initial thoughts are to keep one or two evening masses at Holy Martyrs, and to spread out morning opportunities in different churches. If you have any suggestions, Thank you to the 31 Parishioners and Friends who donated blood please contact Fr Phil. -- Father Phil on Wednesday, March 17 at the KOC Red Cross Blood Drive at Holy Martyrs Church. Thank you for giving the Gift of Life!!

We would also like to thank the POTHE and Parishioners for your continued support of the Clynk Recycling Program. BECOME A KNIGHT: For more info www.kofc.org/joinus

Easter Sunday The Resurrection of the Lord LET US PRAY Celebration of the Mass is our greatest prayer today!

Happy Easter! We want to choose you Jesus, above all things. We believe in your Resurrection, even if we did not see it ourselves. We trust in YOU!

GOSPEL BACKGROUND Easter Sunday, and the whole 50 day Easter season that follows, celebrate the core truth of our Christian faith: that God raised Jesus, who was crucified, from the dead. The word Easter means “dawn”. Mary Magdelene and some women were going to anoint Jesus’ body with special oils but when they got there, they found Jesus’ tomb empty at dawn on Easter morning. GOSPEL ACCORDING TO JOHN 20 :1 - 9 On the first day of the week, Mary of Magdala came to the tomb early in the morning, while it was still dark, and saw the stone removed from the tomb. So she ran and went to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and told them, “They have taken the Lord from the tomb, and we don’t know where they put Him.” So Peter and the other disciple went out and came to the tomb. They both ran, but the other disciple ran faster than Peter and arrived at the tomb first; he bent down and saw the burial cloths there, but did not go in. When Simon Peter arrived after him, he went into the tomb and saw the burial cloths there, and the cloth that had covered his head, not with the burial cloths but rolled up in a separate place. Then the other disciple also went in, the one who had arrived at the tomb first, and he saw and believed. For they did not yet understand the Scripture that He had to rise from the dead. FAMILY CONVERSATION What does Easter and Jesus’ Resurrection mean to me? What Easter family traditions or practices did I grow up with or are growing up with now? We will celebrate this most holy and happy day of our Christian year and the season to follow. This means 50 days of celebration!! Adapted from Loyola Press-Sunday Connection

The stone is rolled back, the tomb is empty! We are to go and tell the Good News. Rejoice in the power of the Resurrection! Alleluia! (Mark 16:1-8).
