Seminole County Natural Lands Guided Hikes Join us for a nature walk and experience the beauty of our natural lands. Our guides will tell you about the special habitats and the creatures that live in that area. If you’re lucky, you might even get to meet a few of them! Get outdoors and experience all that Seminole County has to offer. Make sure to bring water, bug repellent and wear Natural Lands Nature Classes & Events comfortable closed-toed shoes! DID YOU KNOW... In 1837, during a brief truce between the US Army and the Seminole Nation, Seminoles under Osceola gathered in the wide-open center of Fort Mellon to play a game of stickball, the native ancestor of modern Lacrosse. This is the first sporting event recorded in what is now Seminole County. Check out the upcoming Sports History Exhibit at the Museum of Seminole County History described on the bottom of page 4 for more information!

1000 Books Before Kindergarten The Library encourages families to participate in this national challenge! The goal is to read 1000 books to your child before your little one starts Kindergarten (repeat reads are just fine). Central Florida served as the training venue for dozens of Northern teams – in 1946 the segregated South collided with the future as Jackie Robinson (Montreal, #42) came to play at the traditionally white fields in Sanford. After a string of Klan threats and tumultuous escapes, he was ushered to safety by the local black community.
