REBEL WILSON
As an actress, writer and producer, Rebel Wilson has established herself as one of Hollywood’s most sought-after entertainers, endearing audiences worldwide with her distinct humour while championing new narratives for women.
2019 was a big year for Rebel in which she appeared in 4 feature films. Most notably, Rebel appeared opposite Sam Rockwell and Scarlett Johansson in Taika Waititi’s Jojo Rabbit. The film, which received the 2019 Audience Award at the Toronto International Film Festival, was released by Searchlight Pictures in October 2019. The film was nominated for a Golden Globe in the category of Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy as well as an Academy Award in the category of Best Picture. Rebel also appeared in Tom Hooper’s big-screen adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s acclaimed musical Cats. The film was released by Universal Pictures in December 2019. Rebel produced and starred in Warner Bros.’ hit romantic comedy Isn’t It Romantic. Liam Hemsworth, Priyanka Chopra, and Adam Devine costar in the film. Rebel also produced and starred as the lead in Annapurna’s The Hustle opposite Anne Hathaway. The film was the second to be produced under Rebel’s production banner, Camp Sugar.
Up next, Rebel will appear on LOL: Last One Laughing, the first Australian Amazon Original series in which she will also serve as the host and Executive Producer. The comedy-variety series, which will be released by Amazon in May 2020, features a cast of 10 Australian comedic actors and stand-up comics competing to make each other laugh first.
Upcoming, Rebel will appear in Seoul Girls, a film that she is also writing and producing through Lionsgate and her production banner Camp Sugar. The film follows a Korean American high school girl and her friends who enter a worldwide talent competition to be the opening act for the world’s biggest K- pop boy band. With help from an ex-member of a British girl group and a former K-pop trainee, the Seoul Girls find their voices on the world’s biggest stage.
Last year, Rebel was seen starring in the Australian television drama Les Norton alongside Alexander Bertrand and David Wenham. Adapted from a collection of fiction books by Australian author Robert G. Barrett, the series follows the exploits of Les Norton on the run from a troubled past. Rebel stars as Doreen, a brothel owner in the Western Sydney suburbs, and her identical twin sister Dolores.
Rebel is perhaps best known for her role as ‘Fat Amy’ in the Pitch Perfect film trilogy, which has amassed over $540 million at the worldwide box office. Her performance in the films made her an instant fan favourite, garnering multiple People’s Choice, Grammy, Teen Choice and MTV Movie Award nominations and wins.
In 2016, Rebel starred in Warner Bros.’ How To Be Single opposite Dakota Johnson, Sacha Baron Cohen’s Grimsby alongside Penelope Cruz and Mark Strong, and made a cameo appearance in Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie written by Jennifer Saunders. In 2013, she starred opposite Ben Stiller, Robin Williams, Owen Wilson, and Ricky Gervais in the third instalment of the Shawn Levy Night At The Museum series, Secret Of The Tomb.
Rebel made her American comedy film debut with a scene-stealing role in Paul Feig’s Bridesmaids opposite Kirsten Wiig. The film, produced by Judd Apatow, was named one of AFI’s top ten films of 2011 and received a Critics’ Choice Movie Award for “Best Comedy.”
Rebel’s other film credits include Michael Bay's Pain & Gain with Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson; Struck By Lightning, What To Expect When You’re Expecting, Bachelorette, and the animated feature Ice Age: Continental Drift, which grossed over $877 million worldwide.
Off-screen, Rebel’s love of fashion inspired her to launch Rebel Wilson X Angels, a plus-sized clothing line designed to celebrate the figure, not hide it. The eponymous contemporary lifestyle collection includes a variety of jackets, dresses, pants, shirts, and shoes inspired by Rebel’s bold attitude and fashion-forward aesthetic.
Rebel holds a double degree in Law and Arts (BA/LLB) from the University of New South Wales and trained as an actor at the Australian Theatre for Young People. She got her start in entertainment writing and performing on Sydney's stages and on the beloved Australian cult comedy series, Pizza. Rebel wrote and starred in two further television series, The Wedge and Bogan Pride before moving to the United States. Rebel is a long-term supporter of the School of St. Jude in Tanzania, which fights poverty through education.
