  • Star Wars: the Force Awakens Heroine Rey Debuts As Newest Wax Figure at Madame Tussauds London
STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS HEROINE REY DEBUTS AS NEWEST WAX FIGURE AT MADAME TUSSAUDS LONDON Tuesday August 9, 2016. Hot on the heels of her Teen Choice Award for Movie Breakout Star as Rey in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Daisy Ridley today received another much coveted accolade as her character joined a cast of heroes and villains in the epic Star Wars experience at Madame Tussauds London. Ridley’s character, Rey, is the eighteenth to be portrayed in the hugely popular attraction and stands proudly holding her staff, dressed in an exact replica of the tattered scavenger’s clothing she wears in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Her figure resides in a set depicting the trader’s tent in the lawless frontier desert world of Jakku and is featured alongside the skittish but loyal astromech droid, BB-8. Guests can step right into the recreated scene and summon up their inner rebels alongside the daring duo. "Since the Star Wars experience opened last May it has proved a massive hit with our guests," commented Edward Fuller, General Manager of Madame Tussauds London. He continued: "The intention was always to add new characters and scenes as the Star Wars story continues to evolve and we are delighted to welcome heroine, Rey, to the experience in the twelfth immersive set. The scenes we feature recreate some of the most powerful moments from the Star Wars universe and guests will recognise the trader’s tent on Jakku with its desert worn features." Rey's figure took a talented team of twenty artists four months to make.

  • October 31, 2017 Jason Biggs Upgrades with Manhattan Pad
October 31, 2017 http://variety.com/2017/dirt/real-estalker/jason-biggs-manhattan-apartment-1202602610/ Jason Biggs Upgrades With Manhattan Pad (EXCLUSIVE) Location: New York City, N.Y. Price: $6.975 million Size: 2,932 square feet, 4 bedrooms, 4.5 bathrooms By Mark David A well-placed little birdie sent word via covert communiqué that “Orange Is the New Black” actor Jason Biggs and writer-actress Jenny Mollen, creator and co-star with Biggs of the autobiographical digital series “I Like You Just the Way I Am,” have substantially upgraded their residential circumstances in lower Manhattan with the just shy of $7 million purchase of a family-size apartment in a discreetly plush, newly converted West Village building. The Biggs-Mollens’ new digs, with double-glazed UV-protected windows and solid oak floors in a classically stylish herringbone pattern, measures in at almost 3,000 square feet with four en suite bedrooms plus a small study and 4.5 bathrooms. The spacious, unconventionally shaped combination living-dining area stretches to 30 feet long, and the open-concept kitchen is finely finished with both exposed and painted mahogany cabinetry. Residents of the building are pampered with an enviable list of luxuries, such as a fully staffed lobby with a fireplace, a courtyard garden, a paneled library curated by Assouline Publishing, a spa with men’s and women’s steam rooms and a fitness facility with a wood-paneled gym, a half-court basketball court and a climbing wall. Biggs and Mollen previously owned a secluded 2.5-acre estate with a hacienda-style residence and guesthouse in the Benedict Canyon area of Beverly Hills that they snagged in late 2013 for $3.9 million and sold less than two years later for $4.5 million.

  • Smoothing the Wrinkles Hollywood, “Successful Aging” and the New Visibility of Older Female Stars Josephine Dolan
Template: Royal A, Font: , Date: 07/09/2013; 3B2 version: 9.1.406/W Unicode (May 24 2007) (APS_OT) Dir: //integrafs1/kcg/2-Pagination/TandF/GEN_RAPS/ApplicationFiles/9780415527699.3d 31 Smoothing the wrinkles Hollywood, “successful aging” and the new visibility of older female stars Josephine Dolan For decades, feminist scholarship has consistently critiqued the patriarchal underpinnings of Hollywood’s relationship with women, in terms of both its industrial practices and its representational systems. During its pioneering era, Hollywood was dominated by women who occupied every aspect of the filmmaking process, both off and on screen; but the consolidation of the studio system in the 1920s and 1930s served to reduce the scope of opportunities for women working in off-screen roles. Off screen, a pattern of gendered employment was effectively established, one that continues to confine women to so-called “feminine” crafts such as scriptwriting and costume. Celebrated exceptions like Ida Lupino, Dorothy Arzner, Norah Ephron, Nancy Meyers, and Katherine Bigelow have found various ways to succeed as producers and directors in Hollywood’s continuing male-dominated culture. More typically, as recently as 2011, “women comprised only 18% of directors, executive producers, cinematographers and editors working on the top 250 domestic grossing films” (Lauzen 2012: 1). At the same time, on-screen representations came to be increasingly predicated on a gendered star system that privileges hetero-masculine desires, and are dominated by historically specific discourses of idealized and fetishized feminine beauty that, in turn, severely limit the number and types of roles available to women. As far back as 1973 Molly Haskell observed that the elision of beauty and youth that underpins Hollywood casting impacted upon the professional longevity of female stars, who, at the first visible signs of aging, were deemed “too old or over-ripe for a part,” except as a marginalized mother or older sister.

'2009 MTV Movie Awards' Honors Ben Stiller With 'MTV Generation Award' Premiering LIVE Sunday, May 31, 2009 at 9pm ET/8pm CT From The Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, CA SANTA MONICA, Calif., May 22 -- The 2009 MTV Movie Awards pays tribute to Ben Stiller with the coveted "MTV Generation Award" for his amazing contribution to Hollywood and for entertaining the MTV audience for years. From generation to generation, Ben Stiller has kept fans rolling with laughter since bursting onto the scene in Reality Bites and his early film roles and cult classics such as There's Something About Mary, Meet the Parents, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story, Tropic Thunder and now this summer's eagerly anticipated Night at the Museum: Battle at the Smithsonian in theaters May 22, 2009. The "MTV Generation Award" is the MTV Movie Awards' highest honor, acknowledging an actor who has captured the attention of the MTV audience throughout his or her career. Past recipients include Adam Sandler, Mike Myers, Tom Cruise and Jim Carrey. Hosted by Andy Samberg, the 2009 MTV Movie Awards will be broadcast LIVE from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, CA on Sunday, May 31st at 9p.m. ET/8p.m. CT. "That versatility and talent has earned him legions of devoted fans over the years which makes him a perfect recipient for the 'MTV Generation Award.' Whether it's fighting a monkey in a museum or licking a decapitated head, nothing is ever off-limits for him and that's the type of warped creative vision and commitment MTV loves to reward." "I am honored to be getting the 'Generation Award,'" said Ben Stiller.
