I Norden er der inden for de seneste to årtier blevet etableret et Nordisk Netværk for Modersmålsdidaktisk Forskning (NNMF). NNMF har som opgave at skabe rum for forskning i de nordiske førstesprogsfag, blandt andet gennem konferencer, udgivelser og etablering af hjemmesiden https://nordisknettverkformorsmalsdidak- tiskforskning.wordpress.com. NNMF-netværket består af medlemmer af nationale netværk i Norden. Det omfatter aktuelt Nationella nätverket för svenska med didaktisk inriktning (SMDI), Netværk for Forskning i Danskfagenes Didaktik (DaDi), Netværk for Norskdidaktisk Forskning (NNDF) og MOD i Finland (MOD repræsenterer den modersmålsdidaktiske forskning i svensk (L1), men arbejder for nærværende på at inddrage de finsksprogede universiteter og forskere inden for L1-området), mens NNMF i forhold til Island er på udkig efter partnere og et etableret netværk. NNMF- netværket ser det som sin fremmeste opgave at udvikle og udfordre aktuel forskning i hele Norden i dialog med anden international L1-forskning samt ikke mindst den undervisningspraksis, den på samme tid har som sit genstandsområde og ønsker at bidrage til udviklingen af. En primær aktivitet for NNMF er at arrangere en nordisk konference og en prækonference for ph.d.-studerende hvert andet år. Nærværende publikation er et resultat af konferencen og prækonferencen afholdt på Syddansk Universitet (SDU) i Odense november 2017 med DaDi som vært. Alle NNMF-konferencer har deres særlige tematik og inviterer til bidrag både inden for temaet og alle andre felter af modersmålsdidaktisk forskning. Konferencen i Odense var nummer 6 i rækken og havde titlen Grænsegængere. Bidragene i denne publikation, som altså har fået titlen Grænsegængere og grænsedragninger i nordiske modersmålsfag, er bearbejdede keynotes og paper-præsentationer fra denne konference. 6 Der knyttede sig et særligt drama til afholdelsen af konferencen i 2017. Dramaet endte lykkeligt, men fylder os i dag også med vemod. Den australske L1-forsker pro- fessor Mary Macken-Horarik var inviteret som den første af to keynotes til at adressere konferencetemaet – boundary students på engelsk. Det havde Macken-Horarik med stor entusiasme takket ja til, og hun var på vej fra Australien med sin præsentation, da hun undervejs på rejsen måtte melde afbud på grund af sygdom. Til alt held lykkedes det at overtale professor Jenny Folkeryd til at erstatte Macken-Horariks præsentation og respons på den velbesøgte prækonference for ph.d.-studerende. Det lykkedes også at overtale Gunther Kress, bosat i London, til at springe til og erstatte Macken- Horarik som keynote på konferencens anden dag. Så Kress, denne prominente, meget efterspurgte ældre professor og æresdoktor ved flere universiteter, stod op kl. 4 om morgenen for at flyve til Danmark, holde en inspirerende keynote over for et meget taknemmeligt publikum og rejste så hjem igen samme dag. Det er en historie, der fortjener at blive fortalt til Kress’ ære. Ikke mindst fordi han nu ikke længere er iblandt os i levende live. Men Kress har efterladt et imponerende eftermæle, som har inspireret mange, inklusive L1-forskere og mange af bidragene i denne bog. Kress adresserede grænsegængere på sin helt egen, generøse måde gennem et langt forskningsliv. Denne publikation er derfor tilegnet Gunther Kress. Det skal bemærkes, at alle bidrag har været gennem dobbelt blinded peer review med inddragelse af aktive og anerkendte fagfællebedømmere fra hele Norden. Den samlede publikation har derudover været reviewet af en af redaktionen kendt nordisk fagfælle. Stor tak til alle fagfællebedømmere for at bidrage til kompetent kvalitets- sikring af modersmålsdidaktisk forskning. Denne publikation er den første i en ny konferenceserie, som kaldes Konference- serien for Nordisk Netværk for Modersmålsdidaktisk Forskning. I samarbejde med styregruppen for NNMF søgte redaktionsgruppen den danske enhed for Bibliometrisk Forskningsindikator (BFI) om at få publikationen anerkendt som første bidrag i en pointgivende konferenceserie i en dansk kontekst, hvilket lykkedes. Det er NNMFs ambition at udgive tilsvarende publikationer i konferenceserien i forlængelse af efter- følgende konferencer (NNMF 7 er

Darby Dyar, Astronomy Approved By: Christopher Condit, Geology CE Type: Departmental Honors Project Using a gridded version of maritan topography with the computer program Gridview, this project studied the depth-diameter relationship of martian impact craters. The work encompasses 361 profiles of impacts with diameters larger than 15 kilometers and is a continuation of work that was started at the Lunar and Planetary Institute in Houston, Texas under the guidance of Dr. Walter S. Keifer. Using the most ‘pristine,’ or deepest craters in the data a depth-diameter relationship was determined: d = 0.610D 0.327 , where d is the depth of the crater and D is the diameter of the crater, both in kilometers. This relationship can then be used to estimate the theoretical depth of any impact radius, and therefore can be used to estimate the pristine shape of the crater. With a depth-diameter ratio for a particular crater, the measured depth can then be compared to this theoretical value and an estimate of the amount of material within the crater, or fill, can then be calculated. The data includes 140 named impact craters, 3 basins, and 218 other impacts. The named data encompasses all named impact structures of greater than 100 kilometers in diameter.

    APPENDIX I LUNAR AND MARTIAN NOMENCLATURE LUNAR AND MARTIAN NOMENCLATURE A large number of names of craters and other features on the Moon and Mars, were accepted by the IAU General Assemblies X (Moscow, 1958), XI (Berkeley, 1961), XII (Hamburg, 1964), XIV (Brighton, 1970), and XV (Sydney, 1973). The names were suggested by the appropriate IAU Commissions (16 and 17). In particular the Lunar names accepted at the XIVth and XVth General Assemblies were recommended by the 'Working Group on Lunar Nomenclature' under the Chairmanship of Dr D. H. Menzel. The Martian names were suggested by the 'Working Group on Martian Nomenclature' under the Chairmanship of Dr G. de Vaucouleurs. At the XVth General Assembly a new 'Working Group on Planetary System Nomenclature' was formed (Chairman: Dr P. M. Millman) comprising various Task Groups, one for each particular subject.     Evidence for late alluvial activity in Gale crater, Mars John A. Grant 1, and Sharon A. Wilson 1 1Center for Earth and Planetary Studies, National Air and Space Museum, Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC, USA. Corresponding author: John A. Grant ([email protected]). Key Points: Local alluvial deposits in Gale crater were likely emplaced less than 2 Ga, post-dating more widespread water-related deposits in Gale. Water associated with the younger alluvial deposits may be related to late-occurring diagenetic activity. Alluvial deposits formed when Aeolis Mons achieved its present expression, suggesting late-occurring habitable conditions within Gale. 1 Abstract The occurrence of past habitable conditions in Gale crater is generally associated with lacustrine and alluvial environments present >3 Ga ago, during the Hesperian Period on Mars. However, later-occurring aqueous activity is consistent with superposition relations between some alluvial deposits and bounding materials on the crater walls, preservation of fine-scale morphology on these alluvial deposits, and their superposing crater densities. The alluvial deposits include some not previously considered, and collectively lend confidence to the interpretation that local aqueous activity persisted in Gale crater into the Amazonian, or <2 Ga ago. Our conclusions are generally in accordance with late aqueous activity inferred from geochronology data (Martin et al., 2017), in addition to late alluvial activity elsewhere. Interpreted late aqueous activity points to possible habitable settings in Gale later than previously recognized. Plain Language Summary Several fan-shaped deposits on the walls and floor of Gale crater formed via deposition of water transported sediment. Overall, the fan deposits are fairly well preserved, and the number of impact craters on their surfaces indicate they are much younger (~2 billion years old or less) relative to the older, more widespread water-related deposits that formed in the crater over 3 billion years ago.

    The Antiquarian Astronomer Journal of the Society for the History of Astronomy Issue 9 August 2015 ISSN 1740–3677 The Antiquarian Astronomer Journal of the Society for the History of Astronomy On the cover: Conjuring with Mars Two giants of Mars observation stand side-by-side on our cover: Giovanni Virginio Schiaparelli (1835–1910), who at the close opposition of Mars in 1877 saw linear markings on the planet’s red surface that he termed canali; and on the right Percival Lowell (1855–1916), who transformed Schiaparelli’s enigmatic lines into what he regarded as a global network of canals dug by intelligent beings to irrigate a parched planet. They were illusions – really, delusions – that danced in the eyepiece at the hazy limit where imagination supplanted perception. Percival Lowell’s vivid vision of an inhabited Mars, colourfully articulated in popular books and lectures, was one of the most romantic, yet hopelessly flawed, notions of 20th-century astronomy. Firmly entrenched in public consciousness long after it had been rejected by planetary scientists, the fanciful fiction of life on Mars foreshadowed the widespread belief in alien life today. Its social impact was expressed most famously in the public panic sparked by the famous War of the Worlds radio broadcast by Orson Welles in 1938, staged so convincingly that some listeners were persuaded that the Earth was indeed under attack from hostile Martians. In a landing similar to that of the Pathfinder spacecraft, a para- chute will deploy to slow the spacecraft down, and airbags will inflate to cushion the landing. build Mars Upon reaching the surface the spacecraft will bounce about a dozen times and could roll as far as about 1 kilometer (a half mile). When it comes to a stop, the airbags will deflate and retract, and the petals will rover to open, bringing the lander to an upright position and revealing the rover. Where the Pathfinder mission consisted of a lander with science instruments and camera, as well as the small Sojourner rover, the Mars 2003 mission features a design that is dramatically different. This new fly in ’03 spacecraft will consist entirely of the large, long-range rover, which comes to the surface inside a Pathfinder landing system, making it NASA also essentially a mobile scientific lander. Immediately after touchdown, the rover is expected to provide a virtu- al tour of the landing site by sending back a high-resolution 360-degree, weighs flying panoramic color and infrared image.
