“The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part”, directed by Mike Mitchell, came out on Feb. 8, 2019. The release date is five years after the original “The Lego Movie” came out. The movie, which received a 85% on the Rotten Tomatoe’s Tomatometer, runs for an hour and 46 minutes, and is clas- sified as a fantasy/ animation. A description of “The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part” from thelegomovie.com said, “The battle to defeat the invaders [LEGO DUPLO blocks] and restore harmony to the LEGO universe will take Emmet, Lucy, Batman and their friends to faraway, unexplored worlds”. The movie stuck to the original “The Lego Movie” ideas and themes by going back and forth from the LEGO world to the human world. However, the second movie executed the story plot more effectively. There is 3 key parts of “The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part” that set it apart from the original. First, it gave credit to the lead female role, Lucy, that was overdue from the first movie. The movie acknowledged that she was a leader and fighter, and just as important to the lead male characters. Next, they included three new catchy songs, including a spin off of the ever popular ‘Everything is Awesome,’ and there was an overall important message. The message highlights that everything is not always awesome, but when there are people to support you everything will turn out just fine. They portray this message in a fun, and kid friendly way, which makes it easy to understand. The movie is also extremely funny. They made cute jokes with the use of characters outside of “The Lego Movie 2: Part 2”. Some of these characters include Harley Quinn, Abraham Lincoln, and Harry Potter characters.
