Whereas the blood stain size for non-absorbent surfaces depends on impact velocity, previous work has suggested that for fabrics the blood stain size is independent of impact velocity when the drop size is kept constant. Therefore, a greater understanding of the interaction of blood and fabric is required. This paper explores the possibility of using a micro computed tomography (CT) scanner to study bloodstain size and shape throughout fabrics. Two different fabrics were used: 100% cotton rib knit and 100% cotton bull drill. Bloodstains were created by dropping blood droplets from three heights; 500mm, 1000mm and 1500mm. Results from the CT scanner clearly showed the bloodstain shape throughout the fabric.

  • TEXTILE and CLOTHING BA PART III, 5Th PAPER, By: Dr
Topic: TEXTILE AND CLOTHING BA PART III, 5th PAPER, By: Dr. AMARJEET KUMAR, Home Science Department, Rohtas Mahila College, Sasaram. E-mail ID: [email protected] Different types of Weaves Weaves are classified according to the interlacing of warp and weft yarns and the number of warp and weft yarn used. Variety can be achieved by using the basic weaves plain twill and sateen by varying the number of warp and weft yarns used. The different types of weaves are: Plain Weave This is a simplest form of weaving. The weft yarn passes over one warp yarn and under the next alternately across the entire width of the fabric. Plain weave has no wrong side unless coloured finish is applied to differentiate right or wrong side. Attractive fabrics can be obtained by varying the number of warp yarns and filling yarns. Most fabrics are made using plain weave. It produces strong and durable fabrics. Rib Weave: The rib appearance is produced by using heavy yarns in the warp or filling direction, by grouping yarns in specific areas, or by having a greater number of yarns in warp than filling. Examples are poplin, broadcloth and grosgrain. Basket Weave Two or more weft yarns pass alternately over and under two or more warp yarns. In this construction the fabrics are not durable, but are more decorative. Examples are coat and suit fabrics, hop sock. Twill weave The second basic weave pattern is the twill weave. A twill weave always shows diagonal ridges across the fabric. The twill or diagonal weave may run from left to right, or from right to left, both on the face and back of the cloth.

  • Dylon Dye Questions and Information
Dylon Dye Questions and Information What fabrics can I dye? Cotton, linen and viscose will dye to the full shade shown on the pack. Mixtures of these with polyester will result in lighter shades. Polyester, nylon and other synthetics 1. cannot be dyed. Wool and silk can be dyed with Dylon Hand Fabric Dye. If you're not sure whether a fabric is suitable for dyeing please give the friendly Dylon experts a call on 01737 742 020. Will dye cover up bleach marks? As bleach can harm the fabric, dyeing will not usually cover up bleach marks. 2. Can I dye fabric white? It is not possible to dye a fabric white. 3. Can I dye denim? Yes, Machine Fabric Dye or Wash & Dye are best for dyeing denim however you will lose the light dark contrast typically associated with denim. 4. What do I do if I don't know what the fabric is? Cut a small section from an inconspicuous area such as the hem and send it to Dylon 5. and they will let you know. Can I dye faded items? Yes but you should use Dylon Pre-Dye first to remove the colour from the fabric and to ensure that you achieve an even colour. 6. Can I use dyes in the microwave? Yes you can use Dylon Hand Fabric Dye in the microwave. Microwave dyeing can achieve some good tie-dye effects however if you are looking for an even finish we 7. would not recommend using a microwave. Why do I need to use salt? You need to use salt with all Dylon dyes except Wash & Dye and Machine Dye with 8.

  • Follow the Leader: a Critical Analysis of Leadership, Followership and Wellbeing in Policing
Follow the Leader: A Critical Analysis of Leadership, Followership and Wellbeing in Policing Thesis submitted for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Leicester by Keith Alun Floyd MSc (with Distinction) School of Criminology University of Leicester September 2019 Word Count 81,857 1 Abstract Follow the Leader: A Critical Analysis of Leadership, Followership and Wellbeing in Policing Keith Floyd This research investigates the extent to which police leadership would benefit from consideration of the concept of ‘followership’. The research approach is influenced by Critical Leadership Studies (CLS) principles of challenging assumptions about asymmetrical power dynamics and leader-centric leadership styles. The research question asks how an appreciation of followership theory could contribute to the development of police leadership, in turn improving follower wellbeing. Four research aims informed the research approach. 1) Examination of police leadership through a CLS lens from the perspective of followers. 2) Analysis of the leader follower relationship. 3) Provision of an evidence base informing the development of leadership models to meet current policing challenges whilst satisfying the wellbeing needs of followers. 4) Analysis of the factors which effect leadership, followership and wellbeing. A mixed–method approach was designed to answer the research question and satisfy the research aims. Research method one featured quantitative analysis of a national online questionnaire, producing data on leadership style, followership typology and the relationship between leaders and followers. Research method two involved analysis of qualitative data from the questionnaire and a series of interviews conducted with practitioners and academics; expanding on the questionnaire findings whilst further exploring the individual, organisational, external and theoretical factors which influence the leader follower relationship in contemporary policing.
