Diamond Hill Station to Facilitate the Mo Monthly update on MTR facilities for passengers with disabilities – November 2019 1. Diamond Hill Station To facilitate the modification work for the Shatin Central Link, the tactile station layout map has been suspended. The work is targeted to be completed by end of 2019. 2. Hung Hom Station To facilitate the modification work for the Shatin Central Link, the modification of tactile guide paths at the concourse has been started since August 2014. The work is targeted to be completed by end of 2020. 3. Lai King Station • The station improvement works has been completed, the modification of tactile guide paths at the concourse and the public toilets including disable toilets has been opened for public on 31 October 2019. • The lift connecting Entrance/Exit C to the Concourse in Lai King Station will not be in use from 15 June 2019 while replacement work is carried out. Passengers could use the lift near Entrance/Exit B to enter or exit from the station. The work is targeted to be completed by early February 2020. 4. Tin Hau Station The stair lift at Exit A is not available starting from 17 September 2018 while the construction work of new escalators and vertical lifting platform is carried out. Accessible-car service is provided to carry passengers in wheelchairs to/from Causeway Bay or North Point station. Please contact station staff for arrangement upon arrival at the station. The work is targeted to be completed in the second half of 2021. Dimensions of the Accessible-car saloon: height 132 cm, width 66 cm, length 200 cm. Maximum loading of the car: 200 kg. Passengers in wheelchair of size not exceeding the above dimensions can summon the Accessible-car service. 5. Central Station To cope with the lift replacement works, accessible car shuttling between Central Station and nearby stations with public lifts is serving wheelchair passengers as alternative means of access starting from 15 May 2019. Wheelchair passengers can phone duty Station Controller at City Line No. 2921 2710 for making arrangement upon arrival at Central Station. Under normal condition, the expected waiting time of the accessible car service is less than 30 minutes. The project is targeted to be completed by early December 2019. Dimensions of the Accessible-car saloon: height 132 cm, width 66 cm, length 200 cm. Maximum loading of the car: 200 kg. Passengers in wheelchair of size not exceeding the above dimensions can summon the Accessible-car service. 6. Tai Koo Station To cope with the lift replacement works, accessible car shuttling between Tai Koo Station and nearby stations with public lifts is serving wheelchair passengers as alternative means of access starting from 14 July 2019. Wheelchair passengers can phone duty Station Controller at City Line No. 2922 4752 for making arrangement upon arrival at Tai Koo Station. Under normal condition, the expected waiting time of the accessible car service is less than 30 minutes. The project is targeted to be completed by early March 2020. Dimensions of the Accessible-car saloon: height 132 cm, width 66 cm, length 200 cm. Maximum loading of the car: 200 kg. Passengers in wheelchair of size not exceeding the above dimensions can summon the Accessible-car service. 7. Olympic Station From 15 August 2019, the lift connecting the concourse and Platform 1 (trains towards Tung Chung / Disneyland Resort Line) in Olympic Station will not be in use while replacement work is carried out. Passengers going in Tung Chung / Disneyland Resort Line direction from Olympic could consider using the lift to Platform 2 and travelling on to Kowloon, then changing trains towards Tung Chung / Disneyland Resort Line at Kowloon. Passengers going to Olympic in the Tung Chung / Disneyland Resort Line direction could consider travelling one stop more to Nam Cheong and changing trains to return to Olympic, then using the lift at Platform 2 to the concourse. Passengers needing assistance should contact station staff on 26259635. The project will be completed by early March 2020. 8. Heng Fa Chuen Station From 15 September 2019, the lift connecting the Concourse to the Platform 2 (trains towards Kennedy Town) in Heng Fa Chuen Station will not be in use while replacement work is carried out. Passengers going in the Kennedy Town direction from Heng Fa Chuen could consider using the lift to Platform 1 and travelling on to Chai Wan, then return towards Kennedy Town at Chai Wan. Passengers going to Heng Fa Chuen in the Kennedy Town direction could consider travelling one stop more to Shau Kei Wan Station and changing train to return to Heng Fa Chuen, then using the lift at Platform 1 to the concourse. Passengers needing assistance should contact station staff on 2921 5770. The project will be completed by early April 2020. 9. Tai Wai Station From 28 October, the lift connecting the Concourse to Platform 2 (trains towards Hung Hom) in Tai Wai Station will not be in use while refurbishment work is carried out. Passengers going in the Hung Hom direction from Tai Wai could consider using the lift to Platform 3 (Ma On Shan Line Terminal), then using the bridge ramp to Platform 2 to continue travelling. Passengers going to Tai Wai in the Hung Hom direction could consider travelling to Tai Wai and using the bridge ramp to Platform 3, then using the lift to the Concourse. Passengers needing assistance should contact station staff on 2605 9997. The project will be completed by early of January 2020. 10. Wan Chai Station To cope with the lift replacement works, accessible car shuttling between Wan Chai Station and nearby stations with public lifts is serving wheelchair passengers as alternative means of access starting from 27 November 2019. Wheelchair passengers can phone duty Station Controller at City Line No. 2923 5026 for making arrangement upon arrival at Wan Chai Station. Under normal condition, the expected waiting time of the accessible car service is less than 30 minutes. The project is targeted to be completed by early June 2020. Dimensions of the Accessible-car saloon: height 132 cm, width 66 cm, length 200 cm. Maximum loading of the car: 200 kg. Passengers in wheelchair of size not exceeding the above dimensions can summon the Accessible-car service. 11. Safety Notes for Wheelchair / Motorized Wheelchair Users In stations • Travel at a speed equivalent to a walking pace inside stations especially on platforms. • Be aware of the location of pillars and corners, as other passengers might not see wheelchair / motorized wheelchair users and not be able to move out of their path in time to avoid an accident. • Use passenger lifts or stair lifts to move between different levels. Do not use escalators. On platforms • Stay away from platform edges and wait behind the yellow line on East Rail Line and Light Rail platforms especially when the train is arriving or leaving the platform. • Mind the gap between the platform and the train. • Portable ramps which allow wheelchair users to move easily between the platform and train are provided at all MTR stations (except Light Rail). Travelling on trains • Because of space constraints, each multi-purpose area of the train can accommodate only one motorized wheelchair or two manual wheelchair users. Wheelchair user can board the train through designated car and door by portable ramp under the assistance from station staff. Only one wheelchair user can be assisted to board by portable ramp per train. Subject to the prevailing condition, wheelchair users are welcome to board the train without staff assistance. • Do not rush into the train when the warning chime sound or the doors are closing. Wait for the next train. • Always park the wheelchair in the multi-purpose area and stabilize it with the locking device. Inside MTR trains, park the wheelchair facing the direction of travel; then hold the handrail. Inside Light Rail vehicles, park the wheelchair facing against the direction of travel. Stay close to the wheelchair crash pad and fasten the seat belt where provided. • Any accompanying passenger should stay with the wheelchair user throughout the journey. 12. MTR Facilities for Passengers with Disabilities ‘New and improved facilities mean better service for all our customers’ We are striving to improve access and facilities for all our passengers - not only those with disabilities, but the elderly, people traveling with babies or small children, and those who need step-free access. We are making improvements to many of our existing stations, and all our future lines will incorporate easy access facilities. Facilities for Visually Impaired Passengers • TACTILE GUIDE PATHS are installed at all stations and Light Rail Stops. • MODIFICATION OF OBSTRUCTIONS such as litter bins and fare maps making them more easily detectable to cane users has been completed in all stations. ⚫ ESCALATOR AUDIBLE WARNING SIGNALS are installed in all stations to help passengers locate escalators at platform and/or concourse level, and identify the running direction of the escalator. • PLATFORM TACTILE YELLOW LINES are installed in all stations without Platform Screen Doors. • TACTILE STATION LAYOUT MAPS are installed at the following stations: Airport Express – All stations Disney-land Resort Line – Sunny Bay East Rail Line – All stations Island Line – All stations Kwun Tong Line – All stations Ma On Shan Line – All stations South Island Line – All stations Tseung Kwan O Line – All stations Tsuen Wan Line – Jordan, Yau Ma Tei, Mong Kok, Prince Edward, Sham Shui Po, Cheung Sha Wan, Lai Chi Kok, Mei Foo, Lai King, Kwai Fong, Kwai Hing, Tai Wo Hau and Tsuen Wan Tung Chun Line – All stations West Rail Line – All stations • An AUDIBLE DEVICE in the exit gate that is reached by the tactile guide path for providing audible Octopus Card readings are installed in all stations.

    KCRC EAST RAIL EXTENSIONS SPECIAL ISSUE 3/2007 The Arup Journal Foreword After 10 years' planning, design, and construction, the opening of the Lok Ma Chau spur line on 15 August 2007 marked the completion of the former Kowloon­ Canton Railway Corporation's East Rail extension projects. These complex pieces of infrastructure include 11 km of mostly elevated railway and a 6ha maintenance and repair depot for the Ma On Shan line, 7.4km of elevated and tunnelled route for the Lok Ma Chau spur line, and a 1 km underground extension of the existing line from Hung Hom to East Tsim Sha Tsui. Arup was involved in all of these, from specialist fire safety strategy for all the Ma On Shan line stations, to multidisciplinary planning, design, and construction supervision, and, on the Lok Ma Chau spur line, direct work for a design/build contractor. In some cases our involvement went from concept through to handover. For example, we were part of a special contractor-led team that carried out a tunnel feasibility study for the Lok Ma Chau spur line across the ecologically sensitive Long Valley. At East Tsim Sha Tsui station we worked closely with the KCRC and numerous government departments to re-provide two public recreation spaces - Middle Road Children's playground at the foot of the historic Signal Hill, and Wing On Plaza garden - examples that show the importance of environmental issues for the KCRC in expanding Hong Kong's railway network. This special issue of The Arup Journal is devoted to all of our work on the East Rail extensions, and our feasibility study for the Kowloon Southern Link, programmed to connect West Rail and East Rail by 2009.
