1 – June – 2017 2 Meditation is Self-centric, meant to bring about inner absorption and subjective dissolution. At the same time, activities and interactions, however divergent they are, do not deter the life of Self-realization. They form an extension and expansion of spiritual knowledge. Usual activities are constricting, creating stress and agitation. But enlightened interactions are not so. Increasingly creative and benevolent, they enrich oneself as well as the society. In fact, the key branches of National life should be led by spiritual luminaries with expansive vision of the universal Soul and enriching dimensions springing from the unfettered inner horizon. – Swamiji – June – 2017 3 84th Jayanti Celebrations – June – 2017 4 Contents National Dimension of Ascetic Wisdom 05 Science of Inner Redemption – 91 (Based on Yoga-v¡siÀ¶ha, Nirv¡¸a-prakara¸a) Interactional Majesty of the Enlightened 15 Verses for Introspection – 73 Oceanic Dimension of the Liberated Mind M¡ Gurupriy¡ 25 Jayanti Celebrations A Ramaswamy 29 Jayanti Celebrations in other Centres Devotees 42 News & Notes 50 e-Version of Vicharasethu To subscribe contact: [email protected]. Jai Guru. My body has completed 84 years of its earthly sojourn. From today it is 85th. As I always emphasize, the so-called birthday is actually birth- distancing day. Birthday is only one, when the body was born. Thereafter it is only a passage of time: day, year and decade. Whenever we think of any day, it is always based on the ceaseless revolution of Mother Earth on her own axis and around the sun. The first constitutes a day, and the second a year of 365.25 days. Sun rising and setting, moon waxing and waning, mark the cyclic movement of the celestial bodies around us. In this cyclic nature, we too live and move. This is my idea about birthday. But people do have their fondness and fascination to celebrate birthdays as part of their life. It is an effort to make life interesting and delightful. To an extent it is good, welcome too. Everyday of an ascetic is around ‘Sat’ alone We are ascetics, spiritual people, and what is the kind of birthday we can think of? Every day is braahmic for us. SarvaÆ khalvidaÆ Brahma – all this is verily Brahman. AyaÆ ¡tm¡ Brahma – what I call ‘I’, Ëtm¡, is itself Brahman. What can be there in life except Brahman! Whatever I speak or do, being awake, asleep or dreaming, can have only one – June – 2017 6 notion, feeling, experience or memory – it is that of Brahman, the supreme Truth. As I have often said, I do only two functions – either speak or write. These days, very rarely I write with a pen or a paper. Signature I have to put, of course. What I speak or write is solely on ‘Sat’. This is how satsang has come to be associated with Mah¡tm¡s. Whatever comes from a Mah¡tm¡ can only be Sat. He will speak, think, write and interact only with the Truth, Sat. Different kinds of people come to the Ashram. Whether here, or at our Centres for Inner Resources Development, or elsewhere, visitors expect me to talk about ‘Sat’, making all interactions a sublime satsang. The greatness of Bharat Nutan Swamiji was telling me a few minutes back: “Swamiji, speak something about the presence and role of Mah¡tm¡s in the world”. Our country is greatly blessed. In every generation, we find a number of Mah¡tm¡s born; a few children – adolescent or youth – are drawn to ascetic life solely due to their fondness and inspiration to seek and realize the supreme Truth. They are not happy to pursue it remaining at home. Generally they will not marry. If they happen to, under others’ persuasion, as in the case of Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, Buddha, and others, they break the fetters, bent on exulting in the grace and grandeur of asceticism and the consequent satsang mission. – June – 2017 7 Presence of Mah¡tm¡s A society gets greatly blessed by the presence of these Mah¡tm¡s. Wherever there is a Mah¡tm¡, the householders should make it a point to seek his company and grace. This is a must. What you will not get in the household, academic centres and social gatherings, you will get from Mah¡tm¡s through satsang. Their input is indispensable for householders. Ramayana, which millions of men and women read and rejoice in, is a satsang V¡lm¢ki Maharshi has bestowed forever. Likewise, Vyasadeva has gifted Mahabharata. I wonder how many have read Mahabharata in full, appreciated it, evaluated its bounties. These are meant to give you a ceaseless satsang in your life, no matter where you are and what you do. Until recently, all the contemporary literature in our country was largely drawn from these epics. The trend is perhaps different now. Just as people are going back to organic vegetables, farming etc., I think we will soon go back with greater vigour and understanding to our epic literature, and be greatly enlightened and reinforced. Our ascetic wisdom – guiding the Nation I am impelled to share with you some important thoughts, bearing upon the spiritual and value revival that is gripping the country. After the Uttar Pradesh elections, despite a 300 odd majority, the parties took seven days to elect a Chief Minister. Tell me: what is the reason for such a delay? What all negotiations, discussions transpired in Lucknow and – June – 2017 8 New Delhi in the matter! People all over the country became impatient about the subject. The election had State and National significance at once. We want the constitutional machinery to be set up everywhere and governance should go on unhindered. But a full week’s suspension stunned one and all. Finally, they had to fly specially a young sanny¡sin to Lucknow. You may not look at it from this angle. But your Swamiji feels there is a great meaning in this development. How many experienced people are there! How is it that they could not find another suitable person? How many forecasts went up and down, until Yogi Adityanath was flown to Lucknow! All the bouquets, flowers, etc. were kept awaiting. A very elderly MLA proposed Yogi’s name. The assembly had none else. My dear souls, how and why Uttar Pradesh, the biggest State, had to find a sanny¡sin as their Chief Minister? What about our Prime Minister? He is also a sanny¡sin. He may not wear the robe now. He has no family by his side. There are photos wherein he was walking in ascetic attire in the Himalayas. We had many Prime Ministers earlier, qualified, experienced people. But, the ascetic strength, heroism and resolve have their relevance and supremacy everywhere. Narendra Modi was Chief Minister of Gujarat. Suddenly he was brought here. He did not know what a Parliament House was. Calling it ‘the temple of democracy’, he prostrated before entering our Parliament. May he live long to do still better things for the country! I say this, not with – June – 2017 9 any political affiliation. The ascetic life is benedictory for the society. No real ascetic has selfish personal or familial interest. Whatever he speaks and does will be for the benefit of the society. Power of Dharma A sanny¡sin will mean no harm to another. I saw the other day on TV, police lathi charging a crowd in Uttar Pradesh, before the present government was elected. Police was beating a sanny¡sin too. All others were running, but the sanny¡sin, a middle aged person, simply did not move or falter. He did not resist the least, or run away. Who won and who lost by the lathi charge? I believe the entire UP Police had to bend their head in shame. Unarmed civilians are not to be dealt with by arms in a democratic rule. Have other legitimate methods to meet the occasion. People are not enemies. They demonstrate for a demand or in protest. Democracy warrants its own rightful survival. Imagine a democratic rule with no opposition at all! I am not saying that Mah¡tm¡s should enter politics and adorn Ministerial chairs. I only say that our country has reached a stage where the political representatives have begun to look for the right thinking, impersonal, impartial leader, and they have found sanny¡sins are the best. I think it is a great turning point in our country. {… Æ˙j……h……™… ∫……v…⁄x……Δ ¥…x……∂……™… S… n÷˘πEfiÚi……®…¬* v…®…«∫…Δ∫l……{…x……l……«™… ∫…Δ¶…¥…… ®… ™…÷M…‰ ™…÷M…‰** Bhagavadgeet¡ 4.8 These words are oft-quoted, in support of Dharma and its – June – 2017 10 inherent strength. Has not something like this happened in Uttar Pradesh now, to some extent in the Centre also? In spite of the widely abused rights and procedures of democracy, how did this happen in the land? See the divine ways, ways of Providence. A providential interception in the present complex democratic plight! The point is how Mah¡tm¡s can benefit the world. Normally we restrict our life to exposing the ‘Sat’ and holding satsang alone. But our dharma is not limited.
