The Chipmunk was the first aircraft 4 ft. 2 in. manufactured by De Havilland Canada post-WW2. Using the DHC-2 Beaver as a basis, the DHC-3 Otter was designed in 1951 to be a larger and more powerful short take-off and landing (STOL) aircraft. Originally fitted with a Pratt & Whitney R-1340 engine, the majority of Otters operating today have undergone a turbine conversion.
