------JUNE 2021 NEWS SHEET

AT LAST, WE ARE ABLE TO GIVE YOU SOME REALLY GOOD NEWS, FOR ALL OF US AND ESPECIALLY RIDERS, OBSERVERS AND OFFICIALS, BUT UNFORTUNATELY, THERE IS ALSO SOME SAD NEWS TO RELATE.

Rex Bowditch – Vice Chairman (2006/2007) & Current Vice President. Sadly, we report the passing of Rex after a relatively long illness bravely born, aged 80 years, at his home in surrounded by his family on 20th May 2021. Rex was actively involved with the organizing of our trials when Chairman Mike lived at Mudford and together with Mike’s Dad Cyril ran many events. The pair’s forte was to find the largest fallen trees to ride over, which was quite challenging for Trials Bikes to master in the era of the early 1970/1980s, with the relatively low ground clearance at that time. He is survived by his Wife Olwyn, Daughter Clare & Son Mark, we send our sincere condolences to them All. Rex’s Funeral Service and Burial will take place this Friday 4th June 2021 at the Higher Burial Ground, Corscombe, just off the to Maiden Newton Road, but unfortunately due to Covid Restrictions and the size of Rex & Olwyn’s Families it will not be possible for persons outside of their families to attend. Olwyn sincerely apologizes to all Yeo Vale Club Members for not being able to accommodate any Club Members at Rex’s Service. Any club member wishing to donate in memory of Rex and all that he did for the Yeo Vale Club may do so by sending a cheque, made payable to your chosen charity, to Olwyn @ 61 Mudford Road, Yeovil, . BA21 4AE. Donations are being invited for The & Somerset Air Ambulance, Yeovil District Hospital Charity Palliative Care, St Margaret’s Hospice, Butterfields Home Services Ltd., or Prostate Cancer UK.

In support of our Trials Rex’s Wife Olwyn was Trials Secretary 1999/2001 and was made a Vice President together with Rex, in recognition of their work for the Club in 2001.

Other Members in the News. Chairman Mike Hann. As they say, “There is Life in the Old Dog Yet” and just to prove it with the return of Trials in our locality Mike shot straight back into the awards winning his class at the Somerton Classic Trial on 25th April, loosing Nil Marks, following this up with another class win at the XHG Tigers Classis Trial on 2nd May. In support of all his friends and the Yeo Vale Club Mike took up his role as Observer at our Trial on 9th May.

Stan Ducker Vice President & Vice Chairman – 90 Years Young. We all send our hearty congratulations to Stan on this wonderful achievement. When first heard of this achievement I thought that he had been caught doing 90mph on his Triumph 3 Cylinder, which would be understandable as Stan does not hand around. So, watch out you riders as you could easily be recorded with a 90 when Stan is doing his regular observing stint. We hope that he will be observing for many more years.

President - Joan Collins. Our President has been going to Musgrove Park Hospital for treatment after her stay in there, I spoke to her a few days ago and unfortunately things did not go as planned and further treatment is not possible. I am sure that you will all join me in giving Joan all of our best wishes. She was hoping for a successful recovery and her Observing again, which is where she has declared to me that she is champing at the bit to be, but she will see how things progress in the future as she is now very liable to get any infections as a consequence. Despite all she is thinking of all you Boys that she gives you your marks as honestly as she saw them lost, with no arguments, as the Observer’s decision is final as you all know.

Boxing Day Charity Trial 26th December 2019 – Donations to Dorset & Somerset Air Ambulance. Unfortunately, due to the Pandemic we were unable to make the customary donation presentation at our AGM in 2020 and have been unable to do so ever since. As you all know we were also unable to run our Boxing Day Trial in 2020 and again make the presentation in 2021. Consequently, your committee decided to add a further £100 for the 2020 non-event to the £400 donation from the 2019 event and send the total of £500 to the Charity and in the hope that we will be able to run the event this year on 26th December 2021, with the Charity yet to be confirmed. I have received an acknowledgement thanking us for the donation and identifying that the operational costs of the service is now over £5 million per year.

Yeo Vale MCC Ltd – ‘GOOD NEWS’ – First Trial for 18 Months Sunday 9th May 2021. As you will all know we managed to run this trial, courtesy of Mr David Vickery on his land at Manor Farm, Hilfield, Dorchester, Dorset. DT2 7BA. It was a magnificent effort by all club members with ’Team Stoford’ led by Lee Wiggins and Alan March as Clerk of the Course and Marcel Perrett as Secretary of the Meeting, so our grateful thanks to them and to all who Observed on what was a good weather day, being the only dry one for days. Sixty-Six Riders competed with the results showing that the course was just about ‘Spot On’, with the highest marks lost by any individual being 88 and with all class winners losing some marks in single figures, so no mean achievement by all you riders and course planners alike. A set of results is included in this news sheet.

THE ACU ‘GOOD NEWS’. 1. UDATE ON COVID-19 AS COMMUNICATED BY THE ACU AND UK GOVERNMENT, PLUS, OTHER ACU MATTERS. COVID-19. Together with our Chairman Mike, we agreed that despite the effects of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) on our sport we should try to keep our members up to date on the situation affecting us all. 2. Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced his latest plan to gradually get us all out of the latest Lock Down, subject to conditions still being met, by 23rd June 2021. 3. Steps affecting our club activities as follows: - We can now apply to the SW Centre for Permits to cover events from 1st July onwards, applications are to be made through Steve Grinter whilst Alan Pearce is recovering.

2. UK GOVERNMENT PLAN TO AXE THE PROPOSED REGISTRATION OF OFF-ROAD (ONLY) MOTORCYCLES. The Government Private Members Bill tabled in 2007 by Graham Stringer MP has now been withdrawn mainly due to lobbying by the ACU.

• The UK Government are taking the necessary steps to exempt the UK from the implications of the EU Motor Insurance Directive. • Should we still be within the EU we would be subject to this directive, which would mean extra Insurance costs to cover accidents to any 3rd party meeting another competitor’s machine. Other that Motor & Motorcycle Sport it would also have applied to the use of Lawnmowers, Strimmer’s, Hedge cutters etc., even when being used at home.

ILLEAGAL OF-ROAD MOTORCYCLING. There has been an increasingly high incidence of this illegal riding during the Pandemic period. The ACU and AMCA have written to ALL Local Authorities stating that anyone caught, if they are registered members of either organization will be severely dealt with.

NOTIFICATION TO LOCAL AIUTHORITES OF EVENTS TAKING PLACE. It is ONLY necessary to notify Local Authorities that events are taking place. It is not necessary to seek permission from them to run events.

MOTORCYCLES SECURITY ‘DATATAG’. To protect your Motorcycle against Theft and obviously enable identification in the case of theft the ACU are offering a 20% reduction in the cost if arranged through them.

ACU SOUTH-WESTERN NEWS. 1. SW Centre Stewards Appointments. Centre Stewards will be appointed for All SW Championship Events where Expert, Clubman Expert and Clubman classes are run, or for other classes on request to John Luckett @ [email protected]. 2. It is still not possible to print the Gazette as it is still not viable, however Andy Bramwell is investigating possible access for Club’s Secretary of the Meetings to upload their Club’s results onto the Gazette Website. 3. SW ACU Trials Championships 2021. It is proposed to run the Trials Championships this year as in 2020, with at least 5 Championship Rounds completed giving resulting Champions in All classes.
