SAFETY FIRST CLUB
Since our Club is a member of the Singapore Junior Safety First Council, let us know something about the Council. The Singapore Junior Safety First Council is a student body formed in 1955 under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and the Traffic Police. It comprises two representatives from each of all the secondary schools and junior colleges of the Republic. All clubs are thus affilates of the Council. The aim of the Council is to promote-safety first conciousness in all aspects among school children and the Council also hopes to achieve this through contests and safety campaigns held at state level. The The Council is wholly managed by students. It is sub-diveded into five districts, namely, Bukit Timah, Serangoon, City, Pasir Panjang and Katong.

CARE THESE RULES WHEN YOU ARE ON A BICYCLE:
1 RIDE SINGLE FILE 6 GIVE SIGNALS It's against the law to ride more than two abreast, Before you turn or stop, use the correct signals but it's much safer to ride single file - one behind as shown. Give your signal clearly and in plenty of the other - not too close. Always ride in a straight time. line. Never zig-zag. Right Turn (Means about to turn or move out to the right)
STOP 2 LIGHT UP AT NIGHT (Means about to stop or Do all your riding in the daytime, if you can. If reduce speed suddenly). you must be out at night, be sure you have your white light in front and your red reflector and tail After giving your signal, light on the rear, just as motor cars do. Wear cloth take hold of the handle ing that is light coloured or that shines in the dark bars again. so you can easily be seen.
7 SHOWOFFS ARENT SMART Roads are no place for games. It is against the law and very dangerous to ride "no hands" or to take your feet off the pedals.
3 USE A CARRIER You need both hands to keep your balance. Use a carrier or basket for books and packages. If you have no basket or carrier, tie your books and pack ages to the frame.
8 HOW TO TURN These drawings show the course your bicycle should take to trun correctly at intersections.
Left Turn Keep near left-hand kerb. Ride slowly or your cycle will swing wide into the path of other traffic. 4 ONE TO A BIKE Never double-bank anyone on your bike. It was made for one person only.
Right Turn Glance behind for overtaking traffic before you commence the move. Remember your hand signals and "right-of-way" rules. Watch out for pedestrians and stop for them. 5 NEVER HITCH A RIDE This is against the law . . . and may lead to the hospital. You can be thrown down perhaps in front of a car or squeezed against a truck or bus.
9 NEVER PACE VEHICLES Keep well clear of the vehicle in front of you. It may stop suddenly without any warning. It is asking for trouble to pace right behind a vehicle.
