BIMONTHLY CECOS INSIGHT June - July 2019 Official Publication of CECOS College London NEWSLETTER Dear Students, stakeholders, team members, and other esteemed stakeholders As this academic year draws to a close and planning is well underway for next year, I would like to thank you for all your support and share with you our priorities and expectations for next year. We are really proud of our students this year and in particular we are proud of the way they have embraced the changes we have introduced. The academic year has seen our HE provision grow with over 300 students on our HNC/HND Business Programme with our quality being highlighted in two separate Pearson visits, this is something we are extremely proud of and we only achieved this because of the dedicated staff members we have. The FE provision continued to excel despite funding speculation within the sector, we were able to up skill over 750 learners and our Apprenticeship arm maintained the good work it began with the learners in 17/18. We are really excited about the start of next year when we will continue to build on the good work. We are committed to achieving excellence in all that we do. This requires dedication, determination, hard work and a relentless approach towards achieving the very highest standards. We have a team of staff who all want the very best for the students. With your support we will continue to improve. Finally, I would like to thank you in anticipation of your support and look forward to a successful year next year. -
29Th April 2008: Battle of Britain Fly-In to Boost Sir Keith Park Statue
PRESS RELEASE Embargoed until 10:00 on Tuesday 29th April BATTLE OF BRITAIN FLY-IN TO BOOST SIR KEITH PARK STATUE CAMPAIGN • 4th Plinth Statue Campaign reaches new heights • Two aircraft used in the Battle of Britain will fly in to Biggin Hill Airport • Replica Messerschmitt 109 will also be flown into Biggin Hill Airport • Battle of Britain veteran pilots reunited with aircraft from the Battle • Images of the aircraft over London and with veterans will be available A Spitfire and a Hurricane, which both saw action in the Battle of Britain, are to make a dramatic fly-in to London today in support of the campaign to see a statue of Sir Keith Park erected on the Fourth Plinth of Trafalgar Square. The aircraft, a privately owned Hurricane which fought in a squadron under Sir Keith Park’s command during the Battle of Britain and a Spitfire of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, will land at Biggin Hill Airport, famous for its Battle of Britain role as one of the commanding bases for the defence of London and South East England. The planes will be met by Battle of Britain veterans including Wing Commander Tom Neil, who flew from the fighter base at Biggin Hill during the Battle and is credited with 18 enemy aircraft shot down. He will be joined by more veterans, Campaign leader Terry Smith, Sir Keith Park’s great-great niece Leigh Park and many other supporters. This exciting event is the latest boost to a campaign which is continuing to grow and gain momentum. -

Thursday 16 July 2015 Spitfires take to the skies for The Battle of Britain Anniversary Air Show at IWM Duxford Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 September Tickets must be booked in advance. Twenty Spitfires will take to the skies this September as part of IWM Duxford’s Battle of Britain Anniversary Air Show, commemorating the 75th Anniversary of this crucial aerial battle. This mass display of Spitfires, above Britain’s best-preserved Second World War Airfield, will include Supermarine Spitfire Mark I N3200 - recently restored and returned to Duxford by American philanthropist Thomas Kaplan and received by His Royal Highness, The Duke of Cambridge. This Spitfire was originally flown from RAF Duxford in 1940 by Squadron Leader Geoffrey D. Stephenson. The Battle of Britain Anniversary Air Show will tell the story of Duxford’s pivotal role in this famous conflict. In September 1940, some 60 Spitfires and Hurricanes were dispersed every day around Duxford and Fowlmere and on 15 September 1940, known as 'Battle of Britain Day', Bader's ‘Big Wing’, operating from Duxford, twice took to the air to repulse Luftwaffe attacks aimed at London. Visitors can experience what it was like to work at RAF Duxford in 1940 with the re-creation of a Spitfire scramble during the air show. Upon the instantly recognisable sound of a Second World War air raid siren, Hispano HA-112 MIL (Buchon) aircraft will fly in and strafe the airfield. As a scramble bell sounds, living history interpreters representing Second World War RAF fighter pilots will race to protect this vital Battle of Britain airfield and Supermarine Spitfires chase off the enemy aircraft.
