San Diego Team 2020 Sponsorship Opportunities

Last August, SDDBT competed at the Paddle West 2019 PDBA Championship Qualifier for the opportunity to represent the Pacific Dragon Boat Association with crews in Premier Mixed and Senior B Women divisions. In this fierce competition held at Ridgefield Waterfront in Ridgefield, WA, both SDDBT teams scored berths for the 12th International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) Club Crew World Championships set for August 24-30, 2020, at Aix-Les-Bains, France.

12th IDBF Club Crew World Championships Under the IDBF and its Continental Federations of the European Dragon Boat Federation (EDBF) and Asian Dragon Boat Federation (ADBF), dragon boat has become a high-performance, competitive in a global realm. Championships are well established, and championship medals are hard to come by and well deserved.

SDDBT members will be among 7,000 participating athletes from more than 24 countries in this seven-day event. When you add thousands of spectators and international media attending, exposure skyrockets!

International Visibility In addition to paddling as a San Diego team in the upcoming 2020 Club Crew competition, SDDBT members also join other paddlers by qualifying for Team U.S.A. crews.

SDDBT’s Zoey Chesny, Seren Kindt and Alan Loi helped Team USA Under 24 haul in the bling at the 14th International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) Dragon Boat World Championship held in Pattaya-Rayong, Thailand in August 2019. A Proud Tradition SDDBT is rooted in a proud tradition that began in 1983, when Singapore presented three dragon to “’s Finest City.” Since that time, our 501 (c)(3) has stayed on track with its mission to promote and preserve the sport and culture of dragon in the San Diego community.

SDDBT is comprised of approximately more than 90 athletes (women and men) from diverse backgrounds and age groups. Our crews include teachers, engineers, attorneys, emergency room nurses, a realtor, travel writer, graphic designer and even a judge. Beyond dragon boating, many members have also had garnered success in outrigger paddling, canoeing, , stand up , and other .

Our club has also expanded beyond open, women’s and mixed crews by adding affiliate teams that include Team Survivor Sea Dragons Women’s All Cancer Survivor Crew and University of California San Diego Surf Dragons.

While we’re proud of our past accomplishments, we’re even more inspired by what should be a very exciting, productive future in promoting and participating in the sport of dragon boating that we all live for and love.

SDDBT Goals Off the water, SDDBT is focused on:

• Supporting Asian Pacific Islander Americans in the San Diego Community • Helping to link diverse cultures and highlighting the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, dedication and community through dragon boat racing • Encouraging camaraderie, fitness and healthy living through activities and events that both educate, promote wellness and unify • Celebrating Asian culture through commemorating this ancient folk ritual that is today a global sport

Annual San Diego International Dragon Boat Race Held on Mission Bay’s Tecolote Shores adjacent to the San Diego Mission Bay Resort since its inception in 2010, the Annual San Diego International Dragon Boat Race continues to grow.

The two-day event welcomes 40-plus regional, national and international teams, as well as Southern California-based corporate teams that have included Qualcomm, Cal Trans, Intuit, Booz Allen Hamilton, General Atomics and Sekisui Diagnostics. The event’s vendor village is designated specifically for sponsors to promote their companies/organizations to local and visiting paddlers and spectators.

Following a highly successful 10th anniversary race in 2019, our 2020 event slated for September 26-27is expected to exceed impressive numbers from previous years.

Association Memberships SDDBT is a current member in good standing with the Pacific Dragon Boat Association USA (PDBA). PDBA represents the Western region of the United States as part of the United States Dragon Boat Federation (USDBF). Since its incorporation in August 1999, PDBA has attracted membership teams from Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona, Montana and Nevada.

SDDBT sends a current board member to participate in the annual discussions impacting the sport of dragon boat for those of us located on the U.S. West Coast.

In addition to the 50 million plus in China and South East Asia, there are more than 300,000 estimated participants in Europe, 200,000 in , plus nearly 30,000 in Australia and Africa. Dragon boat groups are also established in the Caribbean, and both Central and South America.
