Theme 2014- 2015 “Light Up Rotary” Rotary Awareness Month Vol. 4 Issue 26, 22nd January, 2015 Since May 20th 1957, District 9211, R.I Zone 20A RCKLA Rotary Club of Kampala Web: www.rotarykampala.org President’s Message ------Rotary has a mission, but Rotary also has a message. And both the mission and the message can be sum- marized in a single word – Service. Creating Awareness of that service function is called Public Relations, and it starts internally, with new member orientation, mean- ingful induction, and mentoring in the early months of membership. It continues with Rotary Information programs, keeping even longtime members informed about the scope of worldwide membership, fellowship, and service.

This “internal” public relations strengthens Rotary Awareness within our own ranks. Public relations be- come “external” when we inform the public about Ro- tary. If we don’t tell them, they won’t know that Rotary provides more international scholarships than any oth- er organization. If we don’t tell them, they won’t know that Rotarians contributed more than a half-billion A clever little verse was intended dollars toward the polio eradication campaign, and for promoting retail sales, but it that it has been Rotary manpower that delivered the has application to Rotary as well, vaccine to the most remote parts of the earth. If we especially in this month of Rotary don’t tell them, they won’t be aware of Rotary’s world Awareness. Just as the successful salesman If we don’t make those services known, their benefits must communicate his message, cannot be fully realized. And if we don’t tell the local Rotary will reach out to more public about Rotary, our new-member recruitment is people if we polish our own com- handicapped. Public Relations is not just the job of a munication – if we increase Rotary designated chairman and committee. Every Rotarian Awareness of our mission by bet- represents Rotary, and it’s the job of every dedicated ter informing members and non- members alike. For much of Rotary Rotarian to Create Rotary Awareness. Global History, our service activi- ties were “whispered in a well.” The world knew little of our hu- manitarian and educational pro- grams, and even Rotarians were largely unaware of the scope of activities of our own organization.
