EUROCHANNEL GUIDE AUGUST 2020 5 3 FAMOUS UKRAINIAN-BORN ACTORS Celebrating the airing of The Assignment, a new Ukrainian action series that follows a struggling actor who suddenly becomes a successful police officer after an identity confusion, we have selected three Ukrainian-born actors who have become famous worldwide. These artists have overcome language barriers and now their talents are appreciated for all of us. Although she is naturalized American, very few people know that this talented actress was born in Kyiv. She is the daughter of Galina (née Loginova), a Soviet Russian actress, and Bogić Jovović, a Serbian doctor. Her maternal ancestors were from the Russian city of Tula and her paternal ancestors are from the Vasojevići clan in Montenegro. Milla spent most of her early childhood in Moscow, Russian SFSR, her mother’s native city. In 1980 her family moved to London and then to the US. Milla became famous for her roles in blockbusters like The Fifth Element, Resident Evil and MILLA JOVOVICH Zoolander. One of the most versatile artists of his generation, Eugene Hütz was born in Boyarka, Ukrainian SSR, in the Soviet Union. Hütz is famous for being a singer, composer, disc jockey and actor, but is most notable as the frontman of the Gypsy punk band Gogol Bordello. Hütz was born in Boyarka, to a Russian father, a butcher by profession, and a Ukrainian mother who was of half Servitka Roma ancestry. Hütz HÜTZ arrived in the U.S. state of Vermont in 1992 as a political refugee E through a resettlement program with his mother, father and cousin N Yosef. Hütz played the lead character in Filth and Wisdom, a 2008 film that marked Madonna’s directorial debut. The film premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival on 13 February 2008. EUGE Born in Chernivtsi, Ukrainian SSR, in the Soviet Union, Milena Markovna Kunis is one of the most notorious and talented faces of modern-day Hollywood. In 1991, at the age of 7, she moved from Soviet Ukraine to the United States with her family. Kunis’s breakout came when she gained critical acclaim and accolades for her performance in the 2010 psychological thriller Black Swan, for which she received the Marcello Mastroianni Award for Best Young Actor or Actress, MILA KUNIS and nominations for the SAG Award and the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress.
