Angelo Michele Iorio Assessore alle Politiche Sociali Presidente della Regione Molise 9 Guide IMMIGRATES |MOLISE: LAND OF THE HOST INTRODUCTION “The history of humanity is primarily demographic A story of great migrations” (Eros Moretti, 1999:19) Immigration is a reality extremely complex and varied that it is becoming increasingly coming as a structural phenomenon and consolidated with which our society is called upon to constantly confront. The Molise, traditionally a land of immigrants, has seen many young molisaner leave their land towards Overseas and European countries in search of work and "fortune" to improve their living conditions. Starting in the eighties there was a change in trend from the country of emigrants alone, Molise becomes progressively land of immigration. The impact of the foreign population in Molise 1% is relatively low compared to 5.2% of the national average. The reduced presence of foreigners in our region, is determined as a result of scarce employment opportunities, low levels of income especially in the inland areas of the region where economic activity is still prevalent agriculture. The phenomenon of immigration, the less significant than in other regions is also overshadowed by the far more obvious and traditional "exodus" of young molisaner that still looking for work outside the region emigrate. At difficulty in the world of work are, however, by the presence of a local population, tend and well prepared to welcome a peaceful and viable exercising a power of attraction towards foreigners. The data of recent years show a growing trend undisputed that leaves presage a further increase in the phenomenon, which poses increasingly stressed the need for actions and interventions valid and effective intended to promote acceptance, integration and peaceful coexistence of immigrants in the region. Immigrants residing in Molise to 01/01/2007 are 4834 of 2092 which males and 2742 females (source: ISTAT). 10 Guide IMMIGRATES |MOLISE: LAND OF THE HOST Analysis of the presence of most foreign present in Molise are in first place those coming from Albania, followed by Morocco, Romania, Ukraine and Poland. Despite the limited prospects occupation, the root cause of immigration in Molise is the work. The agriculture and handicraft are the areas where foreigners are more employment opportunities along with wandering sector, working spaces created by a shortage of manpower autochthonous. Furthermore, it shows a high incidence employment of immigrant women in the field of personal services (care for the elderly, disabled and domestic work), why is pushing many women around the world to move in Molise, a region where, inter alia, the number of elderly is growing strongly. Immigration often is a necessity of our production system and a great opportunity for growth through dialogue and confrontation between different cultures. With the conviction that the coexistence, respect and integration between different cultures, are objective as possible, necessary and desirable, the Molise Region has begun to address the issue of social inclusion of immigrants with efforts not only to the creation of courses Italian language and culture, civic education for immigrants, but also the establishment of eleven branches informative legal advice, work and school at every joint leader of territorial areas, for the benefit of non-resident immigrants in the Molise Region. In addition to greater security and guidance to immigrants, the Service Promotion and Protection Company of' Assessor Social Policies has produced two guides: A guide Immigrants, information and guidance developed in several languages: English, French, Albanian, Arabic and Italian, user friendly for foreign national who responds to the strong need for information concerning the rights of immigrants, services for the protection of health, housing, education, training and the inclusion working with the administration and conditions on the entry and stay in Italy, political asylum and family reunification; 11 Guide IMMIGRATES |MOLISE: LAND OF THE HOST A Guide Operators,

    RELAZIONE NUOVE LINEE GUIDA P.R.G. LOCALIZZAZIONE Castropignano, comune posto nel cuore della Regione Molise, a 590 metri sopra il livello del mare, con una superficie di circa 27,02 Km. quadrati, ed una densità abitativa di 42,5 ab/Kmq., complessivamente ha una popolazione di circa 1.050 ab., 438 famiglie e circa 800 abitazioni. Dista 16 km. dal Capoluogo Campobasso ed oltre a far parte dell’Unione dei Comuni del Medio Sannio, il suo territorio appartiene anche alla Comunità Montana “Molise centrale”. Il territorio ricade nella fascia collinare del Molise, coincidente appunto col Medio-Molise. L’andamento orografico alterna zone aspre, spesso convergenti verso torrenti alluvionali, a colline più dolci, morbide, declinanti verso la valle del Biferno. L’abitato si sviluppa su un costone roccioso, che corre parallelo alla valle del Biferno, in posizione panoramica, di notevole bellezza. A 4 chilometri dal centro capoluogo sorge la frazione di Roccaspromonte, la cui popolazione costituisce un quinto della intera comunità; anche questa piccola frazione è posta in posizione notevolmente panoramica, dominando dalla sua posizione l’alta valle del Biferno. Il paese posto sul versante sinistro dell'alto bacino del fiume Biferno, tra i confini dei comuni di Oratino, Fossalto, Torella del Sannio e Casalciprano, è attraversato dalla ex strada statale 618 Molesana, attualmente Strada Provinciale n. 169; a cinque chilometri scorre il tracciato della Statale 647 “Fondo Valle del Biferno, che collega rapidamente l'entroterra molisano al mare Adriatico. I caselli di San Vittore, a 88 km in direzione nord, e Caianello, a 94 km verso sud, danno accesso all'Autostrada del Sole A1, mentre sul versante Adriatico a circa 60 Km.

The aim of this research was to define the structural geometry and the kinematics of Neogene deformation in order to validate the applicability of either thin-skinned or thick-skinned compressive styles in the Apennines of Italy. On the basis of two surface N–S cross-sections, integrated with recently acquired magnetotelluric data, the Matese structure appears as a single thrust sheet limited at the bottom by a low-angle thrust fault with sense-of-displacement towards the North. The structure was later deformed by footwall thrusts carrying Molise–Sannio Pelagic Basin Units and Apulian Carbonate Platform Units. The structure of the Matese Massif is composed mainly of Mesozoic carbonates of inner platform to by-pass and slope facies, separated within the thrust sheet by high-angle faults with low reverse horizontal displacement. These faults acted as normal faults in the Mesozoic and Cenozoic and controlled the carbonate facies distribution.

INDIRLI1, P. CLEMENTE2, B. SPADONI3 SUMMARY This paper summarizes the activities in the emergency stages, post-emergency phase and reconstruction planning of San Giuliano di Puglia, struck by the October 31st 2002, earthquake. A brief description of the event, the seismic hazard analysis and the vulnerability evaluation of buildings, are first reported. The main results of the study, carried out by a scientists team (“San Giuliano Technical Scientific Group”, SG- TSG), are discussed. These activities concerned participation in the detailed evaluation of damage, draft of the demolition plan, ensuring safe conditions to the buildings to be repaired, actions for allowing residents to safely re-enter their non-damaged houses, and preparation of the reconstruction plan. In agreement with local people, the town will be reconstructed mostly where it was. The seismic safety will be ensured by adequate construction methods and possibly large use of Modern Antiseismic Techniques. INTRODUCTION October 31st, 2001, 11:35 local time: a moderate earthquake struck Molise Region (Italy), where the first shock (5.4 magnitude) was followed by another (5.3 magnitude) the day after. Major damage was evident in San Giuliano di Puglia, a small town located about 5 km from the epicenter (Figs. 1-2), completely evacuated after the seismic event, made inaccessible and protected by the police. The images of the primary school collapse, where twenty-seven children and one teacher died, went around the world.
