The God Of Thunder

By : Jamaria Young Period 2 (Greek)

Charge Thor's in charge of thunder, lightning, oak trees, protecting mankind, hallowing, healing & fertility. Relation I would say that Odysseus in the Odyssey is related to Thor due to Odysseus fighting in the great Titan war to protect his people & him surviving. Odysseus is a war hero & looked upon like a god in terms of battle which is how Thor is looked upon by many. Thunderful Story

Odin was talking to the giant Hrungnir at Griotunagardar (frontier of Giantland), telling him that there's no better horse than his own in all of Giantland. Angry, the giant accepted his challenge & went to welcomed by Aesir with serving him ale that Thor normally drank from. The giant became drunk & told Aesir that he would move to Jötunheim, destroy Asgard & all the gods but keep Freyja & as concubines. Thor heard this & challenged Hrungnir to fight. Hrungnir accepted but being at a disadvantage due to him not bringing a weapon. In Griotunagardar, Hrungnir's fellow giants didn't like the thought of him loosing at fight against Thor so they created a clay giant named Mokkurkalfi. Hrungnir had a heart of stone, head of stone, a shield of stone & a whetstone as a weapon. Thor wasn't afraid by this & the sight of Thor caused the clay giant to wet himself. Thor's servant Thialfi lied to Hrungnir telling him that thor was coming at him from underground & the giant believed him so he put his shield on the floor & Thor came flying across the plain throwing his Mjollnir at Hrungnir but at the same time the giant throwing his whetstone at him. The Mjollnir broke the whetstone in half making one end go to the ground & the other go into Thor's head. The Mjollnir still flying hit & broke Hrungnir's stone head Continuation leaving the giant dead falling & landing on top of Thor. The giants legs broke & Thro had trouble trying to get them off but Thialfi came to his assistance & but couldn't move them either. Nobody could until his 3 year old son Magni came & moved them. Thor rewarded him with a Hrungnir's horse . Thor then went back to Thrudvanger to get the whetstone removed from his head by the sorceress Goa wife of Aurvandil the Bold. As Aurvandil the Bold rode in the basket that Thor was carrying, one of the gods toes was sticking out of the basket so it became frozen (due to Thor flying to Thrudvanger). Thor broke it off & threw it into the sky making it become a star known as Aurvandil's Toe. During this Thor accidently distracted Goa during her spell which caused her to make the whetstone stay in his head. Real Life I would say all soldiers that go into war could be represented as a resemblence of Thor mostly for their heroism & them fighting daily for mankind to have another day. Extra Credit I would say that Chris Hemsworth is my modern world allusion of Thor. Bibliography ● http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thor ● http://www.timelessmyths. com/norse/thor.html
